Dyana not leaving DAP
KUALA LUMPUR: Dyana Sofya Mohd Daud, the defeated DAP candidate of the Teluk Intan parliamentary by-election has dismissed a report that she might leaving the party.
She said on Tuesday that DAP was a multiracial party and she would remain in the party to continue her political struggle despite having lost in the by-election.
…
She was asked to comment on the statement by former DAP vice-chairman Tunku Abdul Aziz Ibrahim that he believed she would leave the DAP.
“I will struggle with the DAP.
“I have no intention of leaving the DAP. If there is anyone who assumes that I am disappointed and will leave (the DAP), they are mistaken,” she told reporters during a break at the 28th Asia Pacific Roundtable here. – Bernama

WHAT OF DYANA SOFYA’S FUTURE? Will she leave DAP?
Why should she? She has all of DAP before her, the DAP-world her oyster!
Dyana is the darling of not only DAP but of Pakatan Rakyat as a whole.
Unlike Tunku Abdul Aziz Ibrahim, that disillusioned old man, who was upset simply because he had made no impact on the Chinese chauviinism of DAP, Dyana is at the fore-front of a change that may, at least, bring more Malays into the party.
No, Dyana has so much in ahead of her, and she won’t resign!

Open letter to the people of Teluk Intan – Dyana Sofya Mohd Daud
To the good people of Teluk Intan,
It has been an exhausting but exhilarating two weeks since I was nominated by my party to be the candidate for the Teluk Intan by-election. I have experienced more in the last two weeks than any time in my 27 years of age.
Suddenly, I became the centre of attention of Umno ministers who could not resist taking digs at my looks. Datuk Abdul Rahman Dahlan asked voters not to support me just because I put on “lipstick”. Datuk Zahid Hamidi remarked that I am “not so pretty in person”. Datuk Ahmad Maslan stressed that even his wife, or Datuk Tajuddin Abdul Rahman’s, would win if it were a beauty contest.
My looks and appearance are not important at all in this very important by-election. I did not sign up with DAP to take part in beauty pageants. I call upon the voters of Teluk Intan to judge me for my ideals, my principles and my dreams for a better Malaysia.
I want to win this election not because of my appearance, but because of my ability to make a difference in the Malaysian political landscape in the highest legislative institution of the country.

Flashpoint erupts before Dyana’s selfie session

Tensions simmered at the Leaning Tower of Teluk Intan yesterday afternoon when a fracas broke out between BN supporters and Pakatan Rakyat supporters.
The BN supporters had set up a tent at the town’s focal point while the Pakatan supporters were there for a ‘selfie’ photo session with the DAP candidate Dyana Sofya Mohd Daud and Lembah Pantai MP Nurul Izzah Anwar.
The row broke out at about 4pm when BN campaigner Faizal Effendi Hashim gave a speech at the BN tent, mimicking PKR de facto leader Anwar Ibrahim’s intonations and body language.
A former PKR Youth leader, Faizal’s speech was broadcasted via a sound system with one loudspeaker pointed towards Dyana’s supporters, about ten metres away.
…
Later Dyana and Nurul Izzah arrived separately to the ‘selfie’ session that saw a large crowd, alongside seven police personnel who kept watch of the situation.

About 300 pushed and shoved for an opportunity to take pictures with Dyana in front of a large mock-up of a book containing information about the leaning tower.

Dirty campaign in full swing with fake bikini photo
TELUK INTAN A fake bikini photograph of DAP candidate Dyana Sofya Mohd Daud, which first appeared on the Internet, has re-emerged in a number of Malay villages a week into the Teluk Intan by-election campaign.
DAP’s Pasir Pinji assemblyperson Lee Chuan How today lodged a police report regarding the flyers containing the photograph, which were also found at the Kampung Banjar mosque.
The flyers, which show a photo of Dyana alongside with the photo of a woman in pink bikini, do not indicate those responsible for them.
The flyers were discovered by PAS members at Changkat Jong yesterday, and this was subsequently brought to the attention of DAP.

TELUK INTAN, May 24 — The dissemination of posters featuring DAP’s Dyana Sofya Mohd Daud alongside a bikini-clad actress with whom she shares a striking facial resemblance has drawn outrage from several Malay residents in this usually placid town.
The photograph of Filipina actress Pauleen Luna, which was passed off as an image of the DAP hopeful, first emerged on the Internet when the 26-year-old lawyer was named for the May 31 race.
Two days ago, physical copies appeared in two Malay villages here, local PAS leaders said.
“It’s not good; it’s akin to character assassination,” Abdul Muin Basukey, a 42-year-old welder who lives in Kampung Selabak, told the Malay Mail Online.
“Even if you don’t support her, you shouldn’t run her down like that,” he added.
…
PAS’ Teluk Intan campaign deputy director Salman Saleh, who is helping the DAP on its blitz coverage in the Malay-majority Changkat Jong area, said dozens of copies of the posters were found strewn on the roads in Kampung Selabak and Batak Rabit on Thursday and yesterday.
The A4-sized poster sighted by the Malay Mail Online was printed in colour and did not bear any party logo or emblem.
On the left was a picture of Dyana Sofya, in a white shirt imprinted with the party logos of PKR, DAP and PAS, and the words Pakatan Rakyat (PR).

Barisan ‘thugs’ try to disrupt Dyana’s campaign
BY HASBULLAH AWANG CHIK
May 21, 2014
The DAP candidate for the Teluk Intan by-election, Dyana Sofya Mohd Daud, was harassed by Barisan Nasional (BN) thugs while campaigning today at Kampung Padang Tembak.
Bukit Bendera MP Zairil Khir Johari said eight thugs directed their motorcycle exhaust at a DAP campaign team meeting voters in the area.
“It was an act of provocation. The thugs were wearing clothes and caps with the BN logo. There was a lot of smoke from their bikes.”
Zairil said it was clear that the thugs wanted to disrupt the campaign.
“However, businessmen and customers advised us to ignore their antics.”
Yesterday, Dyana was also provoked by a youth on a motorcycle, who sounded his horn non-stop and questioned why she was representing DAP.
However, Dyana was undeterred and went about meeting voters.

Three things we learned about: Dyana Sofya’s nomination
Here are three things we have learnt about Dyana Sofya’s selection:
1. Age is nothing, but a number
If elected, Dyana, 26, will become Malaysia’s youngest MP now, replacing the baby of the current crop. Zairil Khir Johari who represents Bukit Bendera is 30. Zairil is also from DAP.
Even if Dyana does not win the contest, DAP has proven itself as the party that is most willing to put its trust in the younger generation, regardless of race, even stealing a march on its Pakatan Rakyat allies, PKR and PAS.
…
2. Nobody really expected this fight to be exciting
Without the right accreditation, a number of reporters stood outside the nomination centre on Monday. Some agencies did not even bother sending reporters.
Most had not applied for media passes from the Election Commission (EC), which would have allowed them to enter the tightly-secured nomination centre.
When DAP nominated Dyana, many were caught by surprise and suddenly the Teluk Intan by-election has become the top draw — making the Bukit Gelugor poll staid in comparison.
As of Monday, some news agencies were still scrambling to apply for the media passes and to find fast vanishing hotel rooms.
…
3. Sexism is still entrenched across the political divide
Her youthful good looks have put Dyana in the spotlight apparently. So alarming has been the attention that Umno Youth chief, Khairy Jamaluddin had to remind his party to give more attention to BN’s candidate rather than DAP’s.
What is more disturbing is the fact that some Pakatan Rakyat (PR) leaders themselves played up Dyana’s appearance in order to drum up support from voters. That was apparent in Dyana’s first rally on Sunday night.
…
In return, supporters during the rally baldly greeted Dyana as if she was a starlet on the make, making themselves heard with hoots, wolf-whistles, marriage proposals, and flirtatious remarks.
Dyana told the Malay Mail Online she was unfazed by the attention.
Her priorities are simple: Win Teluk Intan and start something to undermine racial politics.

Acknowledging photo with Ibrahim Ali, Dyana insists against his ‘extremism’
TELUK INTAN, May 20 ― DAP’s Teluk Intan hopeful Dyana Sofya Mohd Daud confirmed today she had taken a photograph with Perkasa’s Datuk Ibrahim Ali, but stressed that she opposed his extremist stance.

Close competition so far but Mah still holds the edge
But a 71-year-old Chinese voter thinks otherwise.
“I think DAP is overconfident this round. The party has not been able to do anything since they won the seat in 2008,” said the woman, who runs a mini convenience store.
According to her, the Chinese voters had “learned their lesson” and would vote for a candidate who is in a position to resolve their problems.
Referring to former two-term Teluk Intan MP (1999-2008) Datuk Mah Siew Keong as loh mah (rhymes with old horse and synonymous with reliability), she made no secret that she would vote for him, reeling out the problems Mah had resolved.
According to her, Mah, 53, has the money and power to resolve problems affecting the people, while the DAP would always give reasons why they could not do anything.

Barisan Nasional should spare some time to understand why young educated Malays are joining DAP instead of bashing its candidate for the Teluk Intan parliamentary seat, Dyana Sofya Mohd Daud, said a former editor.
Datuk A. Kadir Jasin said instead of blaming others for their political woes, BN leaders should “look at themselves” and examine why young educated Malays preferred to join DAP.
“While the BN campaigners and their cyber troopers are having a field day maligning her, they should perhaps spare some time to understand why this sort of thing is happening. Why young educated Malays are joining DAP?
“Leaders of the parties should look at themselves and not treat the rakyat with disdain,” he wrote in a blog posting today.
The former New Straits Times group editor-in-chief said there must be something “particularly strong” in the push and pull factors to encourage a young Malay like Dyana Sofya, who hails from an Umno family, to join DAP as an active member.
“Just days ago, a former female deputy minister from Umno noted with alarm that the DAP’s internship programmes were attracting many young Malay participants, most of whom are well educated.”

Teresa Kok: Dyana will be a formidable MP

PETALING JAYA: Seputeh MP Teresa Kok believes that Umno is frightened of DAP’s Teluk Intan by-election candidate Dyana Sofya Mohd Daud for her courage and her Malaysian-first commitment.
Kok was commenting on Umno Wanita chief Shahrizat Abdul Jalil who had claimed that Dyana was only a DAP puppet.
“Such line of attacks are typical of Umno against Malays who have joined DAP or contested in general elections as DAP candidates.
“If elected as the Teluk Intan MP, she will surely become one of the Opposition MPs whom Umno fears most in Parliament.
On Dyana who was labelled a traitor for suggesting a UiTM-type university to be set up to help needy non-Malays, Kok pointed out how Dyana had stood her ground and “roared like a tigress”.
“In her rebuttal, she pointed out that while UiTM had a noble objective, which is to help needy students, its purpose had changed over the years.”

Learn from my Umno mum, Dyana tells Shahrizat

DAP’s Dyana Sofya Mohd Daud, whose Teluk Intan candidacy has been belittled by Umno Wanita chief Shahrizat Abdul Jalil, has asked the veteran politician to learn from her underling – Dyana’s mother.
“I ask that she learns from my mother who herself is an Umno member but has realised that my candidacy by the DAP heralds a breakthrough for young women in politics, especially for young Malay women, who have long been held back by an inflexible, patriarchal structure in Umno.
“I owe who I am today to my family and to my mother, to hard work and…the personal decisions which I have made along my life,” Dyana said in a statement today.
…
Yesterday, Shahrizat said she “sympathised” with Dyana as she did not realised that she was being used by DAP and described Dyana’s candidacy as a “show”.
The Umno stalwart added that Dyana would not be where she was today if it were not for Umno.
‘Women in politics not to serve food’
In response, Dyana said she would be the youngest MP in Parliament if she wins, an impossible prospect had she joined Umno.
Dyana said the statement by Shahrizat was indicative of Wanita Umno’s failure to promote women into positions of leadership in the country.
“It is precisely this sort of negative attitude that originates from the crop of BN women leaders that has constantly robbed women of opportunities to lead in this nation,” she said.
…
“The party (DAP) has nominated me precisely because I strongly believe in the ideals of justice, equal opportunity and good governance.
“Shahrizatand Puteri Umno should not belittle my intelligence and my ability to tell the difference between BN which protects the interest of the rich and powerful, and DAP which protects the rights of ordinary Malaysians, regardless of race, religion or creed,” she said.

Make Way for the Pakatan Women – Dyana Sofya Mohd Daud
“We have to believe that as females, and as politicians, we can make it. It is possible.”
In a Bangsar café, a young lawyer readies herself for lunchtime. Clad in a suave baju kurung, with her flowing hair gently crowned with a headband, Dyana appears sunny – and importantly, she’s sparking confidence. An avid member of DAP Ipoh Baru, Dyana actively colours the branch’s schedules with her flair, relaying as much contribution as she can for the party and eventually, the people.
And it is the reality of the people that made Dyana join the Democratic Action Party. Restless in learning the drab reality of racial relations in Malaysia, Dyana sees the DAP as ‘seeing through colours’, a sparkling hope in the country’s rich, multiracial landscape. She is convinced of the party’s vision of no racial separation, advocating only the banner of progress for all.
Recently appointed to the DAPSY Perak committee, Dyana is consoled by DAP’s already recognizable image as ‘accountable and clean’. As she stresses it, “as compared to BN—no, they don’t have that”.
Recalling her past experiences that launched her into thinking beyond racial boundaries, Dyana flashbacks to her days in school. “I grew up in KL, and I went to school there. I have a lot of Chinese and Indian friends,” she reminisces. “After we are done with SPM, I happened to see my friends who are not Malays—not only those who haven’t fared well, but even the better performing ones—not getting accepted into any IPTA.”
“They have to spend lots of money in getting admitted into private institutions, instead. The question is, what if I’m in that position? That is my turning point.” And it’s not hard for Dyana to understand DAP’s idea of living in a diverse society is like. “It’s just like when you started primary school. You’re just friends with everyone, be friends with them for what they are, for what they can do for you.”
Long Road for Women’s Rights
Commenting on Prime Minister Najib Razak’s yet another shocking statement, insisting that Malaysia ‘doesn’t need women rights movement anymore’, Dyana is unconvinced.
Citing the rise of the crime against women in Malaysia as an example, Dyana questions how can we be content with such statements when there is so much more to be done. “Our shopping complexes aren’t very safe anymore. Women are easy targets in crimes ranging from snatch theft to sexual harassment. How to curb this?”
“I have to acknowledge that the policemen, some of them I know, are working very hard. It’s just they should decide what they should focus on more. Instead of being overly preoccupied tackling political crime, should they not be on the go finding the killers of (the late) Nurin Jazlin, for example?”
Education, for her, plays a strong role not only to diminish the gender gap, but also to foster critical and creative minds vital for society’s growth. “It is time that we shall allow kids to think more, at school,” she says. “Not just by allowing them to practice and utilize freedom of speech, but to encourage them to ask questions, get better answers and speak out in creative ways as well.”
More Exposure Needed
Now, however, Dyana stresses that even the level of awareness amongst Malaysian women themselves are not far from worrying, which dampens other fundamental efforts crucial for change. Dyana is hopeful that when women finally realize that their rights are not being protected, they will speak up.
“Malaysians are too used to the ‘ikut sajalah’ attitude (just follow), especially the women,” Dyana comments. “But people should know that, whenever things go wrong, they can speak up and voice out their opinions, by all means.”
The mechanism for speaking up, for now, is not too effective. Female representation in the media has increased, but that does not necessarily put their concerns and problems to the forefront.
Women on the grassroots level need their platforms, and while Dyana herself is aware that while there are a rising number of mediums for many women to express themselves, the coverage radius is not large enough.
Exposure is important in climbing up levels of awareness, and the exposure gap between women in urban areas such as the Klang Valley with other women in other areas in Malaysia is not helping much. “Again, it’s about education,” Dyana argues.
“There’s not enough exposure in our education system. We must teach our kids to respect women, and to respect each other. Not just the girls, but the boys as well.”
Perceptions and Stigma
Deep-rooted perceptions towards women echo again in Malaysian workplaces. While female workers often are not well represented in the decision-making positions, they also struggle with family commitments.
Dyana sees this as a complicated and a personal issue. “It’s really up to the individual,” Dyana furthers, “I know many females tend to quit their jobs as their families grow, but I think that it’s a ‘motherly instinct’ factor.”
“In this matter, I see balance as the key. Couples should work it out in a give-and-take solution. In reality, it is still hard. Social stigma still exists for men who give up their role as the breadwinner.”
Pakatan Rakyat’s solutions
Dyana applauds Pakatan Rakyat’s seeds of effort in tackling women’s issues. She cites the Childcare Allowance Scheme mentioned in the 2013’s Pakatan Rakyat Budget. These initiatives include improving, and encouraging the usage of childcare facilities, and giving financial aid to working women earning RM1, 000 per month, with children 12 years and below.
Smalls steps, but Dyana hopes to see more in the future, she suggests that more serious corporate participation could enhance the level of female-related concerns in working places.
“Employers might want to find these issues as offering opportunities, instead of treating them as burdens. It’s all about the mindset,” she adds.
The relation between the mindset, education and political participation is just too strong. Dyana reiterates that female participation in politics is too important to be dismissed.
Women in Politics
Political will is important to elevate women’s status in society, and Dyana firmly believes in this. The stigma that the political arena is a man’s playing field should be long gone.
“Yes, we have to encourage female participation in politics. We have to believe that as females, and as politicians, we can make it. It is possible. Capable, young female leaders like Nurul Izzah Anwar and Teo Nie Ching—we have to show to everyone that they can do it.”
On placing quotas to encourage female participation, Dyana finds herself disagreeing with the notion. “I have to say that merit counts.”
“I think it will be just as unfair to have a qualified male being displaced because a female is required by quota,” urges Dyana, standing by her principle that everybody deserves equal treatment.
She has her goals, and she her principles. It is by these ideals that Dyana stands to drive her passion and her aspirations for the people and the country.
Her wish for Malaysian women? “They have to know that they have power: in their hearts, in their hands, in their minds. They have to use it. Letting people say that you can’t do things will only take you down. You must always remember that you have it in you. Just flaunt it.”
Lastly, before she proceeds with her coffee, Dyana reminds us all: “Keep calm, and vote Pakatan Rakyat.”

Bikini smear campaign against DAP’s Dyana nothing but ‘gutter politics’, say politicians, analysts
Dyana Sofya Mohd Daud is unfazed by the smear campaign carried out against her and says such dirty tactics strengthened her belief that she is on the right side of history. – The Malaysian Insider pic, May 17, 2014.
Even before she is officially confirmed as the DAP candidate in the May 31 Teluk Intan by-election, Dyana Sofya Mohd Daud is already the victim of a smear campaign that includes pictures of her in a skimpy swimwear.
The 27-year-old political secretary to DAP leader Lim Kit Siang has been attacked on the basis of her ethnicity and religious beliefs – for being a Malay Muslim running for a seat touted to be predominantly Chinese.
Several blogs also recently published photos of a woman clad in a pink bikini, saying it was Dyana and questioned her character as a Muslim.
After the pictures went viral, some social media users said they were not of Dyana, but that of Filipina actress Pauleen Luna.
Responding to the incident, Dyana said she was surprised by the wave of attacks that ensued, following rumours of her candidacy for the by-election.
…
Several DAP leaders and political analysts have also spoken out against the attacks, speculating that the ones responsible behind it were Barisan Nasional’s (BN) cybertroopers.
…
Political analyst Oh Ei Sun believed the attacks against Dyana were politically motivated.
…
In describing the entire episode as “gutter politics”, DAP’s youth wing chief Teo Kok Seong said they were probably threatened by the party’s pool of candidates, who were able to give BN’s selection a run for its money.
Teo, however, warned that such action will not bode well for BN with regard to its image and chances in the by-election.
BN will attempt to seek victory in Teluk Intan through Gerakan president Datuk Mah Siew Keong.
…
DAP Wanita secretary Teo Nie Ching lamented that female politicians seemed to be the easy target and urged politicians from both sides of the divide to condemn such unhealthy acts.
“They targeted women to lower our dignity. This is not the type of politics we want to see in Malaysia,” she said.

Dyana will be a good choice for DAP
YOURSAY ‘It will reflects well on DAP to choose a Malay as candidate.’
Kit Siang’s pol-sec may stand in Teluk Intan
Louis: If DAP supremo Lim Kit Siang’s political secretary Dyana Sofya Mohd Daud is nominated it can prove the following:
DAP is not dominated by males. DAP believes in the best talent, and race does not count.
And finally, if Dyana wins in a Chinese-majority area, it is going to prove that the Chinese voters are colour blind and will vote for the most honest candidate.
CQ Muar: This is indeed the ideal candidate in view of the controversial hudud issue at hand.
As a matter of fact, this had been the voice and aspiration of many Chinese – that more talented, capable, moderate and brilliant Malays will come forth to serve and helm the country equitably and justly in our secular nation.
I reckon most Chinese have no qualms and are desirous that a leader of calibre will soon steer the country to greater heights presently dominated and led by those religious bigots, extremists and corruptible leaders within the Umno-BN regime.
We wish you every success in your endeavour, Dyana.
Argonist: Apart from being a pretty face, judging from her write-ups of previous years, I believe she will be MP and leader which all Perakians will be proud of.
May all who despise the corrupt government of today come out in full force on voting day.
Ferdtan: We support Dyana Sofya as a candidate. It is a win-win for Pakatan Rakyat.
For her to win will justify the reason for choosing her as candidate, and even if she were to lose it is still a ‘win’. Why?
She is foremost a young Malaysian, a woman; and not to be apologetic about it, she is an intelligent Malay girl in predominantly Chinese party. It is also good for DAP to show its multi-racial identity.
However having said that – in choosing a candidate, it should be based only on one criteria, that she/he must be a winnable candidate. Good luck Dyana, I hope it is you.
Bamboo: Dyana is a good choice. A confident, fair-minded, independent (not rent-seeking type) Malay. We need more of her among us to counter BN’s divide-and-rule.
Telestai!: I am proud of this young woman who represents the future of Malaysia. I have read her articles and find them well-written and level-headed. I hope she gets the nod to do battle with Gerakan. It will be interesting.
Taximan: I also support the nomination of Dyana as the candidate’s for the Teluk Intan parlimentary by-election. It will reflects well on DAP to choose a Malay as candidate.
To shed the ‘Chinese party’ image, DAP must give more opportunities to the other races within the party.
R1: I just hope if she does get selected, she doesn’t get embroiled in Perak DAP’s internal politics, which is ugly.
Swipenter: Teluk Intan is one tough fight between DAP and Gerakan in my opinion.
Mah Siew Keong is a local boy and was MP for two terms. His family is well-known and respected there – rich and humble but never loud and arrogant.
Dyana is young and fresh blood is needed to lead DAP for the coming decades. The veterans are getting advance in age and should let the younger generation to slowly helm the party and take it to the next level with their guidance.
Generally the women leaders in DAP are doing an excellent job in carrying out their duties. They are generally more leveled-headed than their male counterparts but just as tough.
Homesick: Swipenter, I beg to differ. I don’t think it’s going to be that tough a fight.
People in general are fed up and sick of Gerakan and MCA being the lapdogs of Umno, consorting with them in all sorts of corruption and mismanagement of our beautiful country.
So it does not matter who is Gerakan candidate, he/she will lose. The classic example is Saifuddin Abdullah – one of the few good guys in Umno and yet he lost in GE13. Why?
Simple. Majority of the people are voting for the party.
Fair Play: DAP, I must say this would be a very astute and strategic move to field Dyana. To win the war, you have to fight hudud with hudud. With Dyana, you would steal the thunder from the Gerakan candidate.
Wira: This young lass is a better choice compared to other controversial politicians like DAP’s Hew Kuan Yau aka Superman.
She can articulate well in Parliament but will be pounced upon by BN wolves like that maniac from Sabah. Anyway, I prefer her to any leader from BN.

DAP’s Dyana – more than just a BIKINI-BABE: Thanks to SEX SEX SEX Umno, a star is born!
Written by Dyana Sofya
My mother was active in politics. As her kids, my brothers and I were exposed to politics at a very young age…
Growing up observing my mother taught me many, many things. With the good came also the bad. I soon learned that politics was a dog eat dog world which required one to have nerves of steel and skin as thick as oak before one could even begin to participate.
Joining DAP to bring new politics to Malaysia
In 2011, I made the decision to join the DAP. Once again, my friends thought: “There she goes again, doing something no one would think of.”
The truth is, I didn’t do it just to be different. I did it because I felt Malaysia needed a new kind of politics. I had seen how racial politics was nothing but a scam. My mother is Malay, yet she was shunned by the very party that claims to protect Malays. Hence, the racial model is nothing but a means of power-hungry leaders to stay in power. The only way forward for our country was to break this model of racial politics.
And so I chose DAP. For its principle of multi-culturalism. For its principle of standing up for all Malaysians, regardless of race and religion. For its principle of doing what is right, despite the risks and repercussions. I knew that if I made this choice that I believed was right, I would not have to fear the judgement of history.
Of course, joining DAP came with a price. I was immediately scrutinised and lambasted. False stories were created. My words were twisted. I was labelled a “pengkhianat.” I was also called many other names.
They won’t break me
Just a few days ago, rumours began swirling around that I may be a possible candidate for a parliamentary seat. I was of course just as surprised as everyone else. But I was even more surprised by the wave of attacks that ensued.

Kit Siang’s aide under ‘bikini’ attack

Immediately after Malaysiakini published a report that Dyana Sofya Mohd Daud could be DAP’s candidate for the Teluk Intan by-election, political rivals attempted to literally strip her credibility as a Muslim woman.
Several blogs posted photographs of a woman clad in a pink bikini and claimed that it was the political aide of DAP supremo Lim Kit Siang.
However, netizens later clarified that the photos were that of Filipina actress Pauleen Luna.
Dyana herself appears to be taking the attacks in her stride.
When a netizen asked on Twitter if she had seen the photo, she replied, “I did! That’s why I said I wish I had that body! LOL. Need to work extra hard at the gym.”

Kit Siang’s pol-sec may stand in Teluk Intan

TELUK INTAN DAP supremo Lim Kit Siang’s political secretary Dyana Sofya Mohd Daud may be fielded as the candidate in the Teluk Intan parliamentary by-election in an attempt to woo Malay votes following its adamant stance in rejecting hudud.
Dyana is one of the names to whom the party’s candidate selection committee is looking at, said a source from the central leadership.
The source also confirmed that DAP member Hew Kuan Yau (right); Chong Zhe Min, political secretary to Perak DAP chief Nga Kor Ming; as well as former Jalong state assemblyperson Leong Mee Meng; were among the list of candidates to be considered by the committee.
The candidate might be announced this Saturday, two days before the Teluk Intan nomination day, the source told Malaysiakini.

Zahid Hamidi, stop making Malaysia a laughing stock – Dyana Sofya
Dear Zahid Hamidi, what happened to innocent until proven guilty?
The controversy surrounding Zahid Hamidi and Mat Sabu where the minister claimed that Mat Sabu is a Shia, followed by the Ministry of Home Affairs’s 10 pieces of evidence to back the claim, has become the laughing stock throughout the nation.
Soon after, the ministry covered up by saying that the 10 pieces of evidence are only Grade B evidence, and that it would soon provide Grade A evidence to prove the Minister’s claim.
Not just that, Mat Sabu was asked to prove his innocence or rather his non involvement with Shia movement.
Dear Minister of Home Affairs, what happened to rule of law where one is innocent until proven guilty?
The rule of law is the underlying framework of rules and rights that make prosperous and fair societies possible. The rule of law is a system in which no one, including government, is above the law; where laws protect fundamental rights; and where justice is accessible to all. No public official may act arbitrarily or unilaterally outside the law.
The rule of law requires the government to exercise its power in accordance with well-established and clearly written rules, regulations, and legal principles.
