Plane in India grounded after rats seen on board
An Air India aircraft was grounded on Monday evening amid large presence of rats that posed a serious threat to the plane, the Times of India reported.
It said that the crew observed many rats running around in the rear half of the Airbus A-321 cabin, which flew from Kolkata and landed at the Indira Gandhi International Airport in New Delhi.
The aircraft was then taken out of service and moved to a remote bay for fumigation..
An aircraft has to be fumigated even if a single rat is observed on the plane.
According to the report, the most common way for rats to get on board an aircraft is through catering vans.

AirAsia flight skids during landing in Brunei
Panic reigned on an AirAsia flight when it skidded on the runway during landing at the Brunei International Airport at approximately 4pm today.
Confirming the incident, AirAsia, however stressed that all 102 passengers and seven crew aboard AK278 were not hurt in the incident.
According to a passenger, the chaos broke loose due to a flight attendant who urged passengers to run out of the cabin.
“The steward made the whole situation worse. He shouted ‘Run, run, run!’
“This was when we all fell and stepped on each other before we slid down from the plane and ran to the field,” he told Malaysiakini on condition of anonymity.
He added that the frenzied passengers started panicking again when the door of the bus transporting them from the runway could not open.
“The worse part was that something was burning and everyone screamed like hell once again.
“We managed to get out of the bus and we were all wet from the rain,” he said.
Singapore Airlines plane in near miss over Houston
SINGAPORE — A Singapore Airlines (SIA) plane leaving Houston flew too close to another aircraft on Friday, resulting in a near collision.
NBC News said the SIA flight took off from Houston’s George Bush Intercontinental Airport shortly before 7pm in the United States on Thursday.
The SIA pilot did not level off when he reached 4,000 feet as required, resulting in the aircraft being less than 2,000 feet away from a Delta Air Lines plane that was preparing to land in Houston, NBC said.
When contacted, an SIA spokesman confirmed “there was a loss of separation” involving an SIA aircraft and another aircraft in Houston on July 4.
“Investigations are taking place and as a result we regret we are not able to provide any additional info,” he said. CHANNEL NEWSASIA

Qantas airliner springs a leak, douses passengers
(CNN) — If you’ve ever traveled by air, you’ve probably gotten soaked on an airline ticket. But not like this.
Qantas Airlines Flight 94 to Melbourne had to turn back to Los Angeles about an hour into its trip Wednesday morning when a water pipe started leaking on the upper deck of the plane, according to Australia’s Channel Seven Network.
The jet is an Airbus A380, the world’s only complete double-decker airplane.
The water made its way through the floor and showered economy-class passengers below, the network reported.
Crew members moved passengers and gave them blankets to stay dry, the airline said in a statement.
Qantas said the passengers were never in any danger, and they’re being put up in hotels while the airline talks to the plane’s manufacturer, Airbus, about what might have caused the situation.

“No one was injured, and the flight landed safely,” the airline told media outlets in a statement. United is inspecting the plane, a Boeing 737, to discover the cause, it added.
Indonesian passengers create chaos and panic on SQ flight after claiming to smell ‘gasoline’
A group of 18 Indonesian passengers caused a ruckus on board SQ863 when they claimed they could smell gasoline in the plane’s cabin before take-off.
According to Stomper Darren, who had been travelling on the same flight, the group had insisted that the plane was unsafe to fly and was shouting to other passengers to disembark.
“Chaos was created by this group of Indonesian passengers on flight SQ863 from Hong Kong to Singapore on the afternoon of Jun 24.
“The group of Indonesians complained about the heat and said that they had smelled gasoline at the back of the plane which I did not notice myself.
“They started to shout to all the passengers on board that the plane was unsafe to travel on and wanted everyone to disembark.
“The passengers started to become concerned and the leader, dressed in red, led all the 18 of them off the plane.
“They returned after a short while however, probably because there were no other planes for them to transfer to.
“Once back on board, they started complaining to a stewardess again.
“Eventually they promised to be quiet during the flight and the plane finally took off nearly two hours later.
“The flight was originally scheduled to depart at 1.30pm, but ended up only flying some time after 3pm.”
