British investment victims to embarrass Najib in London

__________________________________________________________________

Doxport was thrust into spotlight recently after its alleged victims staged a protest in London at the venue where Prime Minister Datuk Seri Najib Razak was attending a business conference.

The group, calling itself the British Victims of Investing in Malaysia (BVIM), had claimed that the Malaysian authorities had not taken any action against Doxport which allegedly cheated them in 2008.

A senior official of Doxport Technologies will be the first person to be charged in relation to claims that the Malaysian company had cheated 60 British citizens of their investments worth £2.5m (RM13.3 million).

Federal Commercial Crime Investigation Department director Datuk Syed Ismail Syed Azizan told The Malaysian Insider that the man will be charged at the Petaling Jaya majistrate’s court on Friday.

“He will be charged with passing off forged documents as genuine,” said Syed Ismail.

Malaysian firm targeted by London protesters says it’s innocent, cries sabotage

The Malaysian company accused of cheating 60 British citizens of their investments worth £2.5m (RM12.7 million) has finally broken its silence.

Doxport Technologies Sdn Bhd said the company had been unfairly accused of embezzling money from the investors, who have formed a group called the British Victims of Investing in Malaysia (BVIM).

The group, comprising bus drivers, small business owners and city workers, recently staged a protest outside London’s Excel International Convention Centre, during the World Islamic Economic Forum (WIEF) attended by Prime Minister Datuk Seri Najib Razak.

But Doxport Technologies managing director Sivalingam Thechinamoorthy said the company had not collected any money or provided any documents to any of the 60 investors.

Instead, Sivalingam said the protesters were staff of another company which has taken Doxport to court.

“I have personally viewed photographs of the protest and I have recognised several individuals, who are the directors and employees of another company which has initiated legal proceedings against Doxport.

“We believe that the reports have been timed to prejudice the pending trial. The protest and the media reports are intended to adversely impact the outcome of the case, to influence the judge, witnesses and people in general against Doxport and its directors.

“We strongly feel that this constitutes trial by media and is improper,” Sivalingam told The Malaysian Insider.

Low: Gov’t must step into cheating claim by British

The government must expedite investigations into the claims by 60 British investors that they lost RM12 million through the fraudulent practises of a telecommunications company linked to former Umno treasurer Abdul Azim Mohd Zabidi, a minister said today.

paul low 2Governance and Transparency Minister Paul Low (right) said he first learnt about the case a few months ago, as a newly-minted minister in May, but he took a wait-and-see position.

However, with the group called British Victims of Investing in Malaysia (BVIM) having lobbied Prime Minister Najib Abdul Razak during his presence at the World Islamic Economic Forum (WIEF) in London earlier this week, action needed to be taken, Low said.

“Ideally, it should be expedited, action shouldn’t take so long,” Low told Malaysiakini. “Principles of upholding the rule of law should be implemented, regardless of the personalities involved.”

NAJIB ‘HIDES’ as irate British investors demand JUSTICE at World Islamic forum

Written by Maria Begum, Malaysia Chronicle

But despite the BVIM’s best efforts, the Malaysian leader did not come out to meet them or send any messengers to speak with their representatives

LONDON/KUALA LUMPUR
The startling, even surreal, display of political hypocrisy from Najib and Cameron was also underscored in London, where a group calling itself the British Victims of Investing in Malaysia had held a protest outside the Excel International Convention Centre, where Najib was participating in the World Islamic Economic Forum or WIEF.

Najib is the patron of the Malaysian-mooted WIEF, while Cameron the guest of honor.

“It was a well-attended and loud protest highlighting the suffering of British Investors who have invested in Malaysia. Many VIPs viewed the protest as their cars entered the event,” the group, which calls itself the BVIM for short, had said on its Facebook.

“For Najib, as the leader of Malaysia, he should not hide but be open about this issue because it is a long outstanding case and has the support of many top people from both UK as well as Malaysia. These people are not frauds or troublemakers but investors who took the initiative to invest in our country. They deserve to be treated better and not be snubbed like this by our PM.”

The BVIM has the support of 15 British Members of Parliament and House of Lords member Nazir Ahmed.

They were protesting the lack of action by the Malaysian authorities into their alleged embezzlement at the hands of a senior Umno politician Azim Zabidi.

Umno is Najib’s political party and he had previously met and promised the BVIM a fair probe into their case. But so far, little if any progress has been made.

“It is ridiculous that after more than two years since we lodged a criminal case in Malaysia, that no charges have been made or people arrested. I will tell all my friends, colleagues and the people I meet never to invest in Malaysia,” said Steve, a bank worker from London.

The group, made up of 60 families, came to voice their disappointment in the investigations of a fraud case in Malaysia.

Comprised of bus drivers, small business owners and city workers, they protested for 4 hours – from 5pm and 9pm – at the Excel International Convention Centre, the venue of the World Islamic Economic Forum (WIEF), of which Najib is the patron.

They lamented lack of action by Malaysian authorities against Doxport Technologies Sdn Bhd, which they said embezzled £2.5m (RM12.7 million) from the investors in 2008.

Earlier this year, the group filed a lawsuit against Azim and the company.

Azim was chairman of Bank Simpanan Nasional from 1999 to 2009, and vice-president of the World Savings Bank Institute from 2006 to 2009. He was also the director of Kuala Dimensi Sdn Bhd, the company at the centre of the scandal-ridden Port Klang Free Zone (PKFZ) project.

PETALING JAYA (Oct 29): The British Victims of Investing in Malaysia will be protesting tonight outside the 9th World Islamic Economic Forum (WIEF) in London, to be attended by Prime Minister Datuk Seri Najib Razak.

The group, made up of 60 British families, have been allegedly embezzled of an investment amounting to £2.5m in a Malaysian company called Doxport Technologies Sdn Bhd.

The chairman and director of the company at that time was Datuk Abdul Azim Mohd Zabidi, former Umno treasurer.

According to a statement issued by their lawyers, Kamarul Hisham & Hasnal Rezua, a police report was lodged at the Bukit Aman police headquarters two years ago.

“There are 60 British families who invested in Malaysia and have been allegedly defrauded and yet, the criminal case that they filed in Malaysia, which is still being investigated after two years, has yet to come to any conclusion by the Malaysian Attorney General’s office and Public Prosecutor.

“The British Victims of Investing in Malaysia have been highlighting their case and asking if British investment is safe in Malaysia and if the Malaysian law process is different for British citizens,” they said in the statement.

Seeking Justice for UK Families

In 2008 a group of British citizens invested several million dollars in a company based in Malaysia, in what they felt was an emerging, secure and accountable economy and system, a place that they could do business-in and make an honest return on their investment for themselves and their families here in the UK. It is alleged that the company Doxport Technologies Sdn Bhd, solicited these investment funds on a false basis using fraudulent invoices and documents and misappropriated monies amounting to over $4,000,000.
