When I made up this name, it was tongue in cheek, a play on word. Now it has become a Google term.

New Proton Perdana now available for general public
Those who have been keeping track of Proton’s progress will know that it has been six years since the last Proton Perdana (with the V6 Mitsubishi 2.0 litre engine) rolled out from Proton’s production plant. However, the government departments needed a replacement model for the Perdana, and so a deal was struck with Honda to re-badge the previous generation Honda Accord as the Perdana, and since the beginning of 2015, we have been seeing these ‘Accord-Perdana’ cars, mostly black in colour, running around in the country.
Well, the new Perdana is NOT a rebadged Honda Accord — however, I understand that it uses a Japanese car platform, probably the same as the current re-badged Accord, therefore it shares the same suspension mounting points. It also suggests that the undercarriage parts including the suspension links, shock absorbers and springs may be the same as the current Perdana. However, from the floorboard upwards, Proton has designed a totally new body and thus has given a totally new and fresh look to the car.
…
The Perdana that was unveiled today is a 2.4 litre variant, and I understand that there will be a 2.0 litre variant later. We did get a peep under the bonnet, and we did see a 2.4 litre DOHC engine with variable valve timing obviously of Japanese origin – I assure you that it is a very powerful and reliable engine, with 135kW of power and 222 Nm of torque, so you can probably guess where it originates from. We also know that Proton has recently purchased the 2.0 litre engine developed by Petronas, so I suppose they would be looking seriously at putting that engine in the 2.0 litre variant later on. – See more at: http://www.themalaymailonline.com/drive/article/new-proton-perdana-now-available-for-general-public?utm_content=buffere2c7b&utm_medium=social&utm_source=twitter.com&utm_campaign=buffer#sthash.YYL0jiF1.nM09gUze.dpuf

Putrajaya is overpaying for leased Proton Perdanas as official car in the government fleet, costing about RM250,000 for each 2.4 executive version over five years, DAP’s Kampar MP said today.
Ko Chung Sen said that the stretched version used by the prime minister and the deputy prime minister was purchased at RM295,000 each, close to the price paid by the Penang state government for an S-class Mercedes for Chief Minister Lim Guan Eng, at RM298,263.75.
…
He said the government will order 3,000 Proton Perdana cars on a staggered basis from DRB-Hicom over a two-year period beginning late last year.
According to the Kampar MP, Putrajaya currently leases the new Proton Perdana 2.4 executive at RM3,284.84 per month, which works out to RM197,090.40 per car after five years.
He said after adding on maintenance and servicing, the cost per car would work out to RM259,976.40 in five years.
“So each rebadged Proton Perdana 2.4 executive is costing the government a quarter million ringgit over five years, and they don’t own it because it is being leased,” he said.

IN what would seem like a serious attempt to help turn the company around, national carmaker Proton Holdings Bhd appointed Tun Dr Mahathir Mohamad as its chairman earlier this week.
Industry observers see the move as a last-ditched attempt by the former prime minister to protect his legacy and his tenure is off to a good start as Mahathir has announced that Proton is in talks with several Japanese motor companies on jointly collaborating in the future.
…
The 88-year-old Mahathir has been Proton’s group advisor since late-2003, after he stepped down as Malaysia’s fourth prime minister. Proton is a wholly-owned subsidiary of DRB-Hicom, which the latter took private in 2012.

Proton & Honda collaborate???

Subject : Proton & Honda collaborate???
..the Star reported that Proton is expected to reveal a series of announcements in the next 12 months, including updates on the collaboration with Honda and the launch of new models…the report touches on a Perdana replacement model (PRM). The PRM will be a fruit of the Proton-Honda collaboration agreement that came to surface last October.
The daily’s unidentified source said that Proton has plans to use the Honda Accord chassis as the basis for PRM, but the Proton model would look different. There was no mention whether the Accord in question is the new one recently launched in Thailand or the outgoing Accord currently on sale here.
“The PRM, though based on the Accord, would still entail cosmetic changes, and the engine could be based on the 2.0 litre Petronas engines Proton bought last year,” he said.

Government opts for new Perdana model
PETALING JAYA: The Federal Government has opted for the Perdana Replacement Model (PRM), reversing a plan to replace its ageing fleet of Proton Perdana Executive cars with the Honda Accord.
Sources said Proton had been given the green light to continue with its plans for the PRM, which is expected to be unveiled by December.
It is understood that the PRM would be based on the Honda Accord’s chassis and Proton would do a rebadging exercise including cosmetic and specification changes, similar to the previous changes to the Proton Inspira, which is essentially a Mitsubishi Lancer.
However, the sources said Proton had other plans with a Phase 2 that entails a complete change of outlook and engine to be unveiled in 2015.

Proton has yet to respond to queries from The Star as at press time.

Najib bows to Proton pressure?
High-placed sources claim government backtracks on decision to use Honda Accords after Proton forces its way in by promising new executive models, deliverable in the next three months.
KUALA LUMPUR: Proton has emerged as a major winner after forcing the government to make a last minute U-turn to allow the national carmaker to continue supplying official vehicles to the federal government to replace the aging Proton Perdana Executive and Inspira series.
The government had originally agreed in July this year to replace the Perdana Executive and Inspira fleet with the Honda Accord series.
Honda Accord was picked following Proton’s inability to come up with a model to replace the out-of-production Perdana series. Letters to that effect had been sent out to all government agencies and ministers. In fact, Honda has been notified of the immediate purchase of 350 Accords – the 2013 models which were launched early this month.
However on Monday, Sept 9, Proton managed to convince Prime Minister Najib Tun Razak to allow Proton to continue supplying its models to the federal government. The speed in which this decision was made has baffled Putrajaya officials and industry players.

Questions persist on Proton’s ability
Although Proton has managed to keep its hold to supply the government vehicles, questions still remain on its ability to deliver as promised.
“Proton has failed to introduce a proper replacement model for the Perdana series all these years. And now it has promised the government to deliver a new model by the beginning of next year.
“What is of concern is, how can they come up with a model so quickly when six months ago they were clueless, to the extent of allowing the government to look at Honda?”
“Now, suddenly their R&D work is complete, and they have a prototype. Even then, can they start their manufacturing line quick enough to supply the vehicles to the government over the next four years?,” asked an industry expert.
“What about doing the roadworthiness tests and other inspections on the new model? Do they have the time for this?”
He also asked if Proton had its own engines to fit the models, or if they would be tapping into someone else’s product.
“Would the final product be a unit which, say, belongs to Honda, an engine from someone else, but is passed off as a Proton model?”

PROTON IN THE AUSTRALIAN MARKET
Drive.com.au
Proton banks on new models
- Date
- September 4, 2013
The new models are designed to turn around a sales slide and boost Proton sales to at least the 2000-odd unit annual level they have hovered at for years. That would give the brand a modest 0.02 per cent share of the highly-competitive Australian market.
Proton is banking on a new hatchback, a seven-seat people mover and a new model variant to reinvigorate floundering sales as it embarks on another ambitious sales push.
Key to the hopes of the Malaysian brand – which is this year on track for its worst full-year sales result since arriving in Australia in 1995 – is the Exora people mover, which will sell for $25,990 drive-away, making it the most affordable seven-seater on the market.
Proton will also get the Suprima S, which is the hatchback version of the Preve small sedan that’s been on sale here since 2012.
Rounding out the new arrivals – all due by the end of 2013 – is a better equipped Preve GXR, bringing things such as leather trim and rain-sensing wipers.
All three will be powered by a 1.6-litre four-cylinder turbo producing 103kW of power and 205Nm of torque. As it has in the past, Proton will also talk up the Lotus-tuned suspension tweaks made by the iconic British sports car maker that is also owned by DRB Hicom.
