Waytha wants ‘slave MIC’ to leave BN
Waythamoorthy says that the Umno “tuans’ have used Indian issues for their own political ends.
PETALING JAYA: Former deputy minister P Waythamoorthy wants MIC to leave Barisan Nasional (BN) for acting as a propaganda mouthpiece for the government and sidelining issues affecting the Indian community.
Waythamoorthy in a press statement said that MIC was founded to protect the rights of the Malaysian Indians who were then mostly plantation workers but failed to do so.
“All we hear from MIC is that government is doing this and that in the Tamil media.
“But beyond that nothing concrete is done to find permanent and comprehensive solutions to the long standing problems faced by the Indian community.

Waytha betrayed Indians, says Makkal Sakti
‘He didn’t understand his job and refused to work with the system.’
KUALA LUMPUR: Malaysia Makkal Sakti Party (MMSP) has accused Hindraf chairman P Waythamoorthy of betraying Malaysian Indians by refusing to work within the Barisan Nasional system to improve the socio-economic status of the community.
Speaking at a press conference at PWTC today, MMSP president RS Thanenthiran said the former deputy minister had wasted a “golden opportunity” given by Prime Minister Najib Tun Razak for him to pursue the Hindraf cause.
He said Waythamoorthy’s short stint in the Prime Minister’s Department was marked by his failure to understand his responsibilities and his adamant refusal to work with the system.
“He failed to understand his portfolio capacity and should have found ways to use the existing internal mechanism within the government system to solve Indian issues,” Thanenthiran said.
“His adamant character not to work along with the system has resulted in his exit.”
He said Waythamoorthy was not proactive in pursuing the interests of Indians. “He never once called other Indian political parties for discussion.”

RM35mil for Indians ‘news to me’ says Waytha

Former deputy minister P Waythamoorthy said the RM35 million allocated to resolve the Taman Permata flats issue in Dengkil is “news” to him, as this was never cropped up in his discussions with the prime minister on the matter.
…
He was asked to comment on Housing and Local Government Minister Abdul Rahman Dahlan’s statement yesterday, defending Prime Minister Najib Abdul Razak.
Abdul Rahman said that Najib gave his ministry RM35 million to resolve the issue after Waythamoorthy had urged the prime minister to take action, so it is not true that Najib had not been paying heed to Indian issues.

Waythamoorthy: Najib was dragging his feet
The Hindraf chief and former deputy minister says the Prime Minister did not have the political will to honour the promises he made for the development of the Indian community
KLANG: Hindraf president P Waythamoothy claimed that Prime Minister Najib Tun Razak delayed acting on all his requests despite 16 meetings with him from June 2003 to January this year.
In an interview with FMT, Waythamoorthy said after he was sworn in as senator and deputy minister on June 5, last year, he had an initial meeting with Najib.
And in subsequent meetings, he said he gave proposals in the naming and setting up of the structure of the unit which would be under him, apart from requesting a pro-rated budget to run it.
…
“There were no decisions reached at these meetings…it was meeting after meeting without a resolve. It was promise after promise without any action.
“I was not heading anywhere with regards to the budget for 2013 and PM kept delaying the naming of the unit and the structure required to kick start our work.
“Every time we go into a meeting we talk over the same things. I even wrote letters reminding him of the need to resolve matters,” Waythamoorthy said.
…
“There were more meetings in January. This is when I sensed that Najib did not have the political will to honour the promises made,” said Waythamoorthy.
“I was in the cabinet for a purpose and did not intend to sit in the post if it did not bring any benefit for the people. Positions does not mean anything to me.
“If I cannot deliver the promises made to the poor Indians and underclass minority, I had said I will leave the position,” he added.
Waythamoorthy said the decision to resign from the cabinet was taken after consultation with Hindraf’s central committee.

Waytha gets more hammering from former cabinet colleagues
February 19, 2014
Kamalanathan (pic) said Waytha had no right to heap the blame on Prime Minister Datuk Seri Najib Razak as Putrajaya was still taking care of the community’s needs, such as improving the Tamil school education system.
“He has no right to criticise someone (Najib) who is always giving something to the Indian community and implementing various transformation and continuing to assist them in many ways,” Kamalanathan was quoted as saying by Bernama.
He said Waytha should be a team player and work to defend the needs and rights of the community.

Hisham joins ‘Waytha-whacking’ tweet crew
After scathing criticism from Youth and Sports Minister Khairy Jamaluddin, another cabinet minister has come forward to label former colleague P Waythamoorthy as “selfish”.
Also taking to Twitter, Defence Minister Hishammuddin Hussein said Waythamoorthy resigned as deputy minister in the Prime Minister’s Department last week to “cover up his own failure”.
“Waytha(moorthy)’s move of blaming the government and (Prime Minister) Najib Abdul Razak is a political ploy to cover up his own failure.
“He is clearly insincere in championing the cause of the Indian community in a holistic manner, like he claimed before,” he said.
…
He added that resigning after nine months and then attacking the government also shows that Waythamoorthy was “insincere and selfish”.
He stressed that making significant changes would take more than nine months – the duration for which Waythamoorthy was part of the cabinet.

Waytha asks KJ: You tried working with no money?

Former senator and deputy minister P Waythamoorthy has hit back at Khairy Jamaluddin for so quickly siding with the prime minister without first understanding his frustrations.
…
Countering Khairy’s call that he has been ineffective and money-minded, Waythamoorthy said he quit from his government posts because Prime Minister Najib Abdul Razak has been nonchalant about a special unit he wanted to address issues of the Indian Malaysian poor.
“Khairy’s irrational defence of his boss is immature and imprudent,” Waythamoorthy said in a press statement today.
“Will Khairy be able to perform if his ministry’s budget is taken away and he is expected to function as the youth and sports minister?”

Don’t blame PM for your failure, KJ slams Waytha
Khairy Jamaluddin has come to the defence of Prime Minister Najib Abdul Razak following the attacks from former senator and deputy minister P Waythamoorthy.
The Umno Youth chief said it was unfair for Waythamoorthy to blame the prime minister for the Persatuan Hindraf Malaysia (PHM) chief’s failures to effect changes.
“He was not a team player and wasn’t effective in advocating his cause,” said Khairy in a series of Twitter postings (left) today.
The sports and youth minister also claimed that Waythamoorthy had demanded that all government allocation for the Indian community be parked under the latter’s discretion.
“That’s not how the government operates. Waythamoorthy wanted to control the money, bypassing ministries and agencies.
“When he didn’t get this, he quit and blames the PM,” Khairy tweeted.

Resign for betraying Indians, Waytha tells PM
About a week after resigning as senator and deputy minister, Persatuan Hindraf Malaysia (PHM) chairperson P Waythamoorthy made his first public appearance, at which he called Prime Minister Najib Abdul Razak a liar who has betrayed the Indian community.
At a brief 20-minute press conference, Waythamoorthy also called on Najib to step down as prime minister for his open act of betrayal.
“In doing this, he (Najib) committed an act of betrayal in historical terms to the entire Indian people.
“This will not be forgotten for generations to come. This story will be told over and over, Waythamoorthy lamented.
Appearing haggard and exhausted, he refused to take questions from the journalists who packed the function room at Brickfields, and left in a hurry after making his statement.
Last Monday, Waythamoorthy tendered his resignation, eight months after he signing a controversial memorandum of understanding (MoU) with the BN, just days before the 13th general election held on May 5 last year.

Deputy Minister in the Prime Minister’s Department P Waythamoorthy will be resigning from all government posts as well as the Senate next Monday.
Persatuan Hindraf Malaysia (PHM) adviser N Ganesan said this follows an unanimous decision by the central committee today.
According to Penang Hindraf, Waythamoorthy is to resign both as deputy minister and senator on Feb 10.
“This follows BN having failed to fulfill its promises in a memorandum of understanding (MOU) made between BN and Hindraf.”

Hindraf: Waytha Moorthy to quit as deputy minister
P Waytha Moorthy
PETALING JAYA: Hindraf chairman P Waytha Moorthy has tendered his resignation from all positions in the government and the Senate, effective Feb 10, according to a statement from Hindraf.
Hindraf secretary P. Ramesh said the central committee unanimously decided that Waytha Moorthy should tender his resignation, claiming the government had been “dragging its feet” in delivering its promises to aid the poor Malaysian Indian community.
“Hindraf owes its loyalty to the Malaysian Indian poor community and to them only.
“We did the most unthinkable – signing a pact with our one-time nemesis, entirely in the interest of the Malaysian Indian poor and in the honest belief that Barisan Nasional will fulfil its promises.
“We have given up hope of that happening, after eight months of trying,” he added. Hindraf signed a memorandum of understanding with the government on April 18 last year, just before the May general election, in a bid to resolve the socio-economic problems afflicting the Indian community in Malaysia.
Although Waytha Moorthy had been appointed senator, and then as Deputy Minister in the Prime Minister’s Department, Hindraf claimed he had met with nothing more than an “unending series of delays and dead ends.”
“It is now clear to us that the Prime Minister and the Barisan Nasional are not going to honour the memorandum, as they have neither the political will nor courage to deliver.

SHOULD WAYTHA FOLLOW THE DICTATES OF HIS POLITICAL MASTER OR HIS CONSCIENCE?
P Waythamoorthy, Deputy Minister in Prime Minister’s Department, spoke out against the shooting of 5 Indians in Penang. Fellow ministers have objected to his rocking the boat and called on him to resign.
Hishamuddin called on the Hindraf leader to quit his government post if he was unhappy over the controversial killing in Penang. The Defence Minister’s challenge followed a similar rebuke last week by Zahid, who said Waythamoorthy should toe the government line.
Karpal Singh has called on him to follow his conscience and resign.
Waytha responds by calling on his detractors in the cabinet to work with him to help Indians in Malaysia. He views himself as their equal which is not the way they view him. It is likely that, to them, he is Najib’s mandore, the new Samy Vellu!
“Mandore” is a word that Malaysian Indians use pejoratively to refer to an Indian who oppresses his own people to please his non-Indian master. S Samy Vellu is a former president of MIC.
An earlier article is timely.

Waytha’s appointment denounced
Brother Uthaya calls him the “latest Indian mandore” and the “new Samy Vellu”.
PETALING JAYA: The appointment of Hindraf leader P Waythamoorthy as a deputy minister has drawn condemnation from his activist brother P Uthayakumar, an MIC leader and a businessman claiming to represent Indian entrepreneurs.
“Congratulations to Waytha as the latest Indian mandore, otherwise known as the new S Samy Vellu,” said Uthayakumar, who heads a faction of Hindraf and also leads the unregistered Human Rights Party.
“Mandore” is a word that Malaysian Indians use pejoratively to refer to an Indian who oppresses his own people to please his non-Indian master. S Samy Vellu is a former president of MIC.
Uthayakumar said his younger brother was a “political opportunist” who had been diverted from Hindraf’s cause by a personal agenda.
“Waythamoorthy’s involvement in Najib’s cabinet has nothing to do with Hindraf,” he said. “He was sacked from Hindraf on April 25 by the Hindraf supreme council for being a traitor.”
Waythamoorthy is chairman of the newly registered Persatuan Hindraf Malaysia. His appointment as a senator and a deputy minister in the Prime Minister’s Department came close on the heels of his rapprochement with premier Najib Tun Razak.
Last month, in return for Waythamoorthy’s declaration of support for Barisan Nasional, Najib agreed to accept the Hindraf blueprint of policies to help poor Indians.
This came after Waythamoorthy had embarked on a hunger strike until either BN or Pakatan would sign the Hindraf blueprint.

Waytha responds to call to resign!
Waythamoorthy referred to a 2005 academic study by ACP Amar Singh Sidhu entitled “The Rise of Crime in Malaysia”.
Calling it an “insightful study”, he noted that it blamed urban poverty for violent crimes and gang-related activities.
In the study, Amar noted that Indians in urban squatter areas had developed a sub-culture alienating them from mainstream Malaysian society. This subculture mindset was besieged by hopelessness, was captive to low self-esteem, and low self image coupled with the lack of opportunities to pursue education and employment. “I make this call again to the Home Minister to work with me in a holistic manner to address this complex problem through the implementation of the plans in the 5-year blueprint,” he said.

Waytha to critics: Work with me
He reminds Zahid and Hisham that Putrajaya had accepted Hindraf’s 5-year blueprint.
PETALING JAYA: Deputy Minister in the Prime Minister’s Department P Waythamoorthy today called on his critics in the Cabinet to work with him to resolve the socio-economic problems that he said were the cause of gangsterism among Indian youths.
Responding to criticism by Home Minister Ahmad Zahid Hamidi and Defence Minister Hishammuddin Hussein for his remarks on the police killing of suspected criminals in Penang last week, he reminded them that his task was to help the government find a “comprehensive and permanent” solution to problems affecting the Indian community.
He pointed out in a media statement that both he and Prime Minister Najib Tun Razak had stated this before the recent general election.

Waytha determined to stay in government, calls on minister to help Indian community
Latest Update: August 26, 2013 12:55 pm
Two Umno ministers have warned him to follow the government line but P. Waythamoorthy is not backing down.
Waythamoorthy has little to lose in making his stand because if he is kicked out of Cabinet, he will be given the credibility he does not have in the Indian community.
Today he asked if crime should be tackled by shooting all gangsters.
“Every major town in the west coast, I am sure has several gangs and probably as many members as in Penang. That is a large and disturbing number. Is anyone suggesting we shoot off all these wayward youngsters to clean the streets of crime?” he questioned in a statement.
Labelling it a crisis in the Indian community, the Deputy Minister in the Prime Minister’s Department said there was a need for urgent and positive intervention, adding that a memorandum of understanding had been signed between the Barisan Nasional and Hindraf before the elections for a 5-year blueprint for the advancement of the Indian community.
He called on his critics in the Cabinet to work with him to solve the problems of Indian youths involved in crime rather than call for his ouster from the government.
Waythamoorthy said Putrajaya needed to address the root cause of the issue, which was a symptom of socio-economic malaise affecting the Indian community.
“In my discussions with the Prime Minister, I had it made very clear that my role is to deliver comprehensive and permanent solutions to the longstanding socio-economic problems of the Indian community and nothing else. I have chosen to come into government primarily for this purpose,” he said in a statement today.

The Indian community is facing a crisis in rising gangsterism, and violence is not the answer said Deputy Minister in Prime Minister’s Department P Waythamoorthy.
“Every major town on the west coast, I am sure has several gangs and probably as many members as in Penang. That is a large and disturbing number.
“Is anyone suggesting we shoot off all these wayward youngsters to clean the streets of crime?” said Waythamoorthy (left) in a statement today.
He was responding to criticism of his earlier statement against the recent shooting of five youths in in Sungei Nibong, Penang.
“That particular episode may have taken the five off the streets in the way it did, but will it really solve the problem of crime?” he asked.
He acknowledged the police’s remark on Saturday that the Indian community was facing a serious threat in rising gansterism.
“At the funeral procession of one of those who died that day, the newspapers reported about 800 Indian (Malaysian) youths many purportedly 04 gang members in the procession.
“Yesterday it was reported that the director of criminal investigations (CID) Bukit Aman Hadi Ho Abdullah (left) said the police records of known gang members revealed that 71 percent were Indian.
“There is a crisis within the Indian community. We need urgent and positive intervention to stop the slide,” said Waythamoorthy.
Waytha: Shall we shoot all gangsters to end crime?
