‘DAP fresh CEC polls likely in November’
DAP chairman Karpal Singh said the party decided to hold re-election due to the threat of the party being deregistered ration
GEORGE TOWN: The DAP re-election for positions in central executive committee (CEC) is highly likely to be held this November, said party chairman Karpal Singh here today.
He said the party must hold the fresh polls within a 10–week period from last Wednesday when the CEC decided to conduct the re-election.
He also confirmed that only the same list of candidates, who contested the now annulled party polls held in Penang on Dec 15, 2012, would be eligible to contest in the re-election.
Similarly, he said only the legitimate list of delegates for last year’s party annual congress would be eligible to attend and cast their ballots in the electoral process.
“We will decide the date and venue for the re-election in next Thursday’s CEC meeting,” he said at the press conference during his visit to his Bukit Gelugor parliamentary constituency.
Karpal also confirmed that the previous CEC of 2008 – 2011 term would be now administering and making decisions for the party until the fresh polls.

DAP dares Najib to guarantee its safety, wants to fight ROS in court
The DAP today made the Prime Minister a target in its party polls dispute with the Registrar of Societies (RoS).
Secretary-general Lim Guan Eng (pic) said if Datuk Seri Najib Razak is willing to guarantee that the party will not be deregistered, then DAP is willing to immediately file a judicial review to correct an obvious travesty of justice.
He was referring of course to the RoS order that DAP must hold fresh elections for its central executive committee (CEC).
“Otherwise the DAP has to face the reality of the brutality of ROS abuses of power by following the ROS directive to hold re-elections even though DAP has done no wrong,” Lim said in a statement.
The Penang chief minister was hitting back at the prime minister who yesterday criticised DAP’s handling of the issue while saying that his party, Umno, was a credible political party, that it played by the rules, and was ready to walk the talk.
“What the ROS had directed them to do is correct and according to regulations,” Najib had said yesterday.

DAP will decide new election date this Thursday
The DAP will meet on Thursday to decided on a date for its central executive committee (CEC) re-election, which must be held by early November, said the party’s national chairman Karpal Singh.
He said the polls should be held within 10 weeks from last Wednesday when the party decided to hold fresh CEC elections, according to the party’s constitution.
Star Online reported Karpal as saying that those nominated on the CEC will remain as candidates for the re-election.
“We will go by the same list of candidates and same list of delegates like those in December last year. We have not yet decided on the place for the re-election. It will be decided in Thurday’s meeting in Kuala Lumpur,” he said.

DAP secretary-general Lim Guan Eng said the party’s re-election exercise, pressured by the Registrar of Societies (ROS), would most likely be based on the “old delegates list”.
A decision would be made on Thursday when the party’s central executive committee (CEC) meets in Kuala Lumpur to iron out details on how to conduct the re-election, he added.
However, Lim declined to confirm whether the same candidates, nominated by the delegates last year, would be mixing it up again this time around.
“I do not want to pre-empt anything. Let us meet on Thursday and decide on the matter,” said the Penang chief minister in a joint interview with several English language dailies, including Malaysiakini news portal, at his office in Komtar yesterday.
