Pictures of semi-nude ‘bride and groom’ making waves on social media
IPOH: Photos of a semi-naked couple, allegedly taking their wedding photographs in front of a bank on Jalan Sultan Yussuf here, have surfaced on social media.
The photographs of the couple in minimal dress, with the “groom” shirtless wearing just a bow tie and black pants, with the “bride” clad in just white undergarments, with a wedding veil.
It is not known when the photo shoot occurred, but photographs have been circulating online since Monday.
The couple seemed undaunted by their state of dress, even as passers-by took their photographs.
However, a wedding gallery general manager, who only wished to be known as Koo, said the duo were models and it was merely a photo shoot and not for a wedding.

MY PERSONAL EXPERIENCES
1. When I last visited the Ipoh General Hospital, now known as the Raja Permaisuri Bainun Hospital, I parked my car 15 minutes’ quick walk from the place.
2. Before that, to enable my wife to see a specialist, I dropped her off at the main entrance, and found a place where I could double-park. I waited for the hour that she was gone, and when she messaged me, I drove back to the entrance to fetch her. I was on leave then. How many of you are so lucky as to be on leave when your family needs to go to hospital?
…
PARKING AT THE IPOH GENERAL HOSPITAL IS ALMOST IMPOSSIBLE! There are just insufficent parking lots, so for the whole of 2014, drivers have had to park on both sides of the road outside the hospital.
THEY DON’T REALLY BLOCK THE ROAD AS IT IS WIDE.
Today, the traffic police had a wonderful day (for themselves). Think of the fines they will collect!
However, think of the people who have had to park along this road: family and relatives of those who are so sick they have to be hospitalized, the old and infirm who can barely walk, little children…
Depan hospital besar ipoh. Byk yg kena saman coz no parking.
..
This was posted on Friday, December 21, 2013! That is how far back the parking woes go!
The next time you go to the general Hospital (now known as the Raja Permaisuri Bainun Hospital, use the Velodrome Rakyat for parking your car.

Mohd Nihmatullah Syed Mustafa and Ang Kwang Ngiap share a friendship stretching back 50 years. – December 8, 2013.
At a time when there are many who are selfish and have a narrow racial outlook, the famous “nasi ganja” stall in an Ipoh kopitiam is showing what friendship and racial harmony is all about.
When the Indian Muslim nasi kandar stall operator was ordered to shut his business over hygiene issues recently, the Chinese owner of the shop from which he operated in followed suit, in a show of solidarity.
The coffee shop owner, Ang Kwang Ngiap, who sold only drinks, did not have to close his business but he pulled down the shutters because of the strong bond he had with the nasi kandar seller, Mohd Nihmatullah Syed Mustafa.
…
According to the 63-year old Ang, his father ran the coffee shop during the time of the nasi kandar founder, the late Kassim Mohd. Three generations later, the partnership remained intact.
“We work together. When the Health Department asked them to close, we closed in solidarity, even though the issue was with the fridge in the next building,” said Ang.

Council vigilant against dirty 24/7 restaurants
IPOH: The unhygienic surrounding of restaurants, and mamak eateries in particular, have become a bone of contention for many local councils.
Checks by the Streets team here found that these restaurants had little time to clean up their premises.
The workers in most of the eateries only cleaned up when there was a lull in the flow of customers.
This, however, did not seem to bother the patrons.
A late-night diner, who wished to be known as Ahmad, refuted the notion that 24-hour outlets were dirtier than the other restaurants.
…
Ahmad said that the cleanliness of a restaurant depended more on the individual attitude of the proprietors, rather than its operating hours.
“It is unfair to tar all 24-hour restaurants with the same brush. It depends on the attitude of the owner, as there are also dirty eateries which open regular hours.”
…
Meanwhile, Ipoh City Council licensing and enforcement director Zulkifle Jaafar Sidek said the council was committed to ensuring that eateries maintained a high standard of cleanliness.
“The council insists that the food operators allocate a certain amount of time to clean their establishments as we want them to maintain appropriate health standards.

Construction of a steel structure near the North-South Expressway continues amidst protests. WORK to construct a giant billboard tower at a busy traffic light junction on Jalan Tambun continues despite a public outcry that it is endangering road users.
Ongoing: Work to construct a massive billboard at a busy traffic light junction on Jalan Tambun, Ipoh, continues despite protests.
In fact, work has even intensified, almost round the clock, to complete the steel structure ever since the matter came into light.
It was reported last Thursday that the structure, situated frighteningly near the slip road leading to the North-South Expressway, was causing fear among motorists.
Many are asking if the foundation of the structure was strong enough to support its weight and height.
There were also concerns over the lack of safety procedures adopted by the workers contracted by outdoor media company, Imej Jiwa Sdn Bhd, during construction.
In response, Datuk Bandar Datuk Roshidi Hashim had said the Ipoh City Council would conduct a reassessment of the project to ensure that construction of the steel structure was in accordance with rules and regulations.
A check by The Star showed that metal sheets have already been put up on all three sides of the billboard as of Monday.
There was also a notice placed there by Imej Jiwa to inform the public of its intention to construct a triangular billboard while a feeble attempt was made to increase safety at the site by having a few metal sheets placed at its foundation.

Parking coupon controversy
IPOH: FIFTY-SIX business operators in the Medan Gopeng area have signed a petition against the implementation of a hotly-disputed coupon-parking system.
This comes after Ipoh City Council (MBI) began issuing summonses, on Aug 1, to motorists who did not use the coupons. The council had said that the move was designed to combat congestion in the area.
However, this failed to satisfy the locals who claimed that the move has created more harm than good.
The businessmen claimed that the monthly parking fees would exceed the RM100 mark, and be an added burden on their finances, following the equally divisive closure of the Medan Gopeng bus terminal.
Sungai Rapat assemblyman Radzi Zainon, who collected the signatures for the petition, said that businesses in the area had been suffering following the implementation of the coupon system.
“The businesses had already been losing money after the major bus terminal was moved from Medan Gopeng to Amanjaya,” added Radzi.
“Furthermore, the system has not been implemented in other areas in the Gunung Rapat region.

Lee died on the spot as a result of serious head injuries after the couple was hit from behind. Teh was pronounced dead upon arrival at the hospital.
Elynn’s brother, Lee Caleb, 18, said their parents were avid runners, who had joined a running club last year.
“It’s so surreal that they are gone. I thought my father was pulling a prank on me when we got the phone call to say that he and mum had met with an accident,” he said.
It is believed that during the incident, the couple had parked their car at the D.R. Seenivasagam Park and were jogging towards the Sultan Abdul Aziz Recreational Park (Polo Ground).
Other joggers taking the same route discovered Teh lying unconscious by the side of the road before stumbling upon Lee’s body in front of the Perak Shooting Club.

Firecrackers believed to cause fire, killing cosmetic millionaire’s sons
IPOH: Investigators believed the Saturday night fire that killed the two children of Vida Beauty founder Datuk Dr Harmiza Othman may have been triggered by firecrackers.
Prior to the fire that gutted the house at the Meru Hills, several staff of Dr Harmiza or Dr Vida as she is fondly known, were seen playing with firecrackers at the porch of the property with two of her younger children – Nor Adeline, 8, and Eric Zaquan, 5.
Harmiza’s two older children – Eddie Zuhdi Mohd Amin, 11, and Edrie Zikrie Mohd Amin, 10 – were on the first floor of the house with two other company workers.
The New Straits Times learnt that the staff who were on the ground floor were lighting firecrackers when sparks from the firecrackers caused the furniture and clothes at the porch to catch fire around 9pm.
The fire grew and spread to a Perodua Kancil, a Bentley and several motorcycles parked under the porch of the house before spreading into the house.
The growing fire caused thick smoke to envelop the house.
Eddie Zuhdi and Edrie Zikrie, together with Harmiza’s worker Mohd Nor Syamil Mat Zaidi, 26, tried to escape by seeking shelter in the bathroom on the upper floor of the house.
Their bodies were later found and they were believed to have died of smoke inhalation.
Another worker, Rosfi Ismail, 30, who was also on the first floor, escaped by jumping out and broke his leg.
