PI Bala’s lawyer to testify in Paris Scorpene tribunal
Pakatan Rakyat has alleged of corruption in Malaysia’s purchase of two Scorpene submarines from a French firm. — Reuters pic, Oct 5, 2012.The late private investigator P Balasubramaniam’s lawyer Americk Sidhu has agreed to testify before a French tribunal into alleged government corruption in Malaysia’s purchase of two Scorpene submarines.
Civil rights group Suara Rakyat Malaysia (Suaram) executive director Cynthia Gabriel said Americk would give evidence in Paris sometime this September.
“The court there has been in touch with Americk to determine his free dates,” she said after attending a fund raising dinner for the case in which Suaram has been made a party.
She said the focus would be on Balasubramaniam’s revelations on the role of Malaysia’s then defence minister Datuk Seri Najib Razak in the Scorpene acquisition.
Cynthia also said the French court has now extended its investigations into circumstances that led to Altantuya Shaariibuu’s death, and especially if Najib had abused his powers as the then Deputy Prime Minister to cover the truth.
Najib has denied all allegations in the case while Balasubramaniam had made two conflicting statutory declarations (SD).

COMMENT Allow me to start from the very beginning. This is a long story, so please bear with me.
M Puravalen, (or Valen, as he is known to his colleagues), and I studied law together, at the Inns of Court, London, in 1980-81.
I have had a long and close relationship with Valen for the past 33 years. He has done nothing in that period of time that would make me suspect he was anything but a forthright and credible member of the legal profession.
I was introduced to former private investigator P Balasubramaniam or PI Bala (left) and ASP Suresh by Valen at a restaurant (Fogles, to be precise) at Plaza Damas in Sri Hartamas sometime in April 2008. It was a chance meeting. There were others present, and they can confirm this.
……….
I pause to point out at this stage that neither myself, nor Bala, had had any communication whatsoever with Anwar Ibrahim. Anwar did not even feature in the equation. The entire purpose of this exercise was to ensure justice for the murdered Mongolian girl and her family. There was no political angle involved.
……….
I wish to reiterate that no one had offered Bala or me any money to do this. If they had, I would have jettisoned the whole exercise immediately and distanced myself from it in no uncertain terms. I believed what Bala had told me, for the details and coincidences involved could not possibly have been concocted.
I am sure Valen will be confirming this independently, that he did not receive any money from any party or person for his involvement and neither was he instructed to pay Bala anything, contrary to what has been alleged in RPK’s latest article.
Sounds intriguing? Read the rest in:

Americk defends Anwar, PI Bala
He says his client is being slandered by “armchair eunuchs”.
PETALING JAYA: Private investigator P Balasubramaniam’s lawyer has denied that Opposition Leader Anwar Ibrahim promised to pay his client for the statutory declaration that he affirmed on July 1, 2008, which alleged the involvement of Prime Minister Najib Tun Razak in the murder of Mongolian beauty Altantuya Shaariibu.
Responding to a recent article by blogger Raja Petra Kamarudin, Americk Siddhu said his client did receive money for affirming a statutory declaration, but the paymaster was businessman Deepak Jaikishan and the declaration was one that came on July 4, 2008, contradicting the earlier one.
“Balasubramaniam has sacrificed a lot and yet he is being slandered by a bunch of armchair eunuchs who have nothing better to do than to pour scorn on his efforts to pursue what is right,” said Americk.
