UNIT AMAL

The unit, founded in 1991 under PAS Youth, has about 3,000 members aged above 18 who receive training from leaders within its own ranks, including teachers and ex-soldiers.

Those aged 13-17 may join the Amal Brigade, while those aged 7-12 can be members of the Amal Cadet group.

“We focus on schools controlled by PAS such as the Yayasan Islam schools in Kelantan – of the 28 schools, 24 have their own Amal Brigade.”

These two branches, he said, receive training similar to other uniformed units in schools such as the scouts or Red Crescent Society.

Despite the Unit Amal’s welfare activities, the spotlight often falls on them during public rallies.

Unit Amal does humanitarian work, says PAS Youth

PETALING JAYA: PAS Youth has come out in defence of its volunteer corps, Unit Amal, after Home Minister Datuk Seri Dr Ahmad Zahid Hamidi’s announcement of possible police action against them.

Its chief Suhaizan Kayat said the volunteers were only involved in humanitarian and social activities, unlike the PPS, which was set up by the DAP-led Penang government.

“Unit Amal volunteers help out during floods and crowd control at party gatherings,” he said in an interview here yesterday. “They are not like PPS members who have 24-hour operations and even carry out anti-crime enforcement activities.”

Unit Amal, he pointed out, had been active for over two decades and served the community as a welfare aid organisation.

Dr Ahmad Zahid, added Suhaizan, should clarify his statement and apologise to the party if he had mistakenly drawn similarities between the unit and PPS.

Earlier, Dr Ahmad Zahid warned that police would take similar action against Unit Amal following the arrest of PPS members on Sunday.

With the flood and a deluge of price hikes, PAS has found a new weapon – its Unit Amal (welfare unit) – to penetrate Umno’s rural fortress and make some headway in the quest for Putrajaya.

The Islamist party failed to make any headway in the past two general elections but believe its Unit Amal can expand PAS’s political influence in Kemaman, Terengganu, and Kuantan, Pahang, both traditional Umno strongholds, for the next polls.

Previously known as the boys in red who directed traffic and security during PAS and Pakatan Rakyat events, the welfare unit has become the party’s energising force.

These boys formed the frontline for the Islamic party in assisting victims of flood-hit areas in Terengganu, Pahang and Johor.

“A village development and security committee chairman told me that a group of the Unit Amal members assisted him during the recent floods,” PAS president Datuk Seri Abdul Hadi Awang told a party central committee meeting recently.

“When he offered them some money for their efforts, they politely turned down the offer. They told him that they did not want money.

Pada mulanya.saya tidak bercadang untuk hadir pada perhimpunan bersih di KL.Bagi saya sebagai rakyat Malaysia kebebasan bersuara telah lama hilang dari kehidupan rakyat Malaysia ini.Negara kita hanyalah sebuah Negara yang kuno di zaman ledakan teknologi komunikasi sedang berkembang dengan pesatnya di alam  ini.Apalah yang perlu saya perjuangkan kerana saya masih bujang dan tidak perlu memikirkan masa depan generasi mendatang  selain ibu saya yang masih hidup.Pengalaman dari BERSIH 2.0 telah mengajar saya bahawa suara rakyat seperti kami hanyalah gas pemedih mata,pukulan belantan dan sepak terajang dari robot2 syaitan yang bergerak dengan  berTUHANkan pangkat dan harta duniawi semata2.

BENAR LAGI SAHIH!!!..PAS ADA UNIT AMAL UMNO PULA ADA UNIT SAMSENG!!!!

Begitulah persepsi rakyat kini apabila membezakan antara Unit Amal Malaysia PAS dengan Pemuda UMNO Malaysia.

Umpama langit dengan bumi..Mungkin dikalangan UMNO menafikannya tetapi ini adalah realiti.

Kalian boleh lihat disekeliling sejak akhir-akhir ini kelakuan dan gelagat Pemuda UMNO Malaysia.

Kerja-kerja samseng apa yang Pemuda UMNO tidak lakukan keatas Pakatan Rakyat sama ada waktu penamaan calon, ceramah dan pasang bendera.

It has become fashionable in Umno to saddle PAS with the bogey of Shiaism after it became known that Mat Sabu, after the Iranian revolution in 1979, was much taken with the high learning displayed by the mullahs there.

The uniformed unit of PAS, called Unit Amal, deployed at PAS gatherings to provide security and to help in crowd control, was modelled after the Revolutionary Guards of Iran.

Participants in the gatherings that polls reform advocacy group Berish organised in 2007, 2011 and 2012 would have observed – favorably, most likely – the discipline and usefulness of this unit at crowd control.

It is said that Mat Sabu was the prime proponent of the setting up of this unit in PAS.

Saddled with the accusation that he is a Shiite, Mat Sabu has been at pains to explain that his admiration for the mullah regime extended only to the erudition of the mullahs and to modelling Unit Amal on the Revolutionary Guards.

It must be said here that Unit Amal has not acquired the obnoxiousness that the Revolutionary Guards has assumed in recent years for their participation in the repression of the Green movement that lost in the presidential election in the country in 2009.

Kudos to Unit Amal

Barathidasan, who said Mipas was “proud to be part of this historic event” commended PAS’ Unit Amal for a job well done in managing the huge crowd.

“Mipas salute the “PAS’ Unit Amal” members who have done an excellent job that had to control the crowd to avoid a stampede.

“Unit Amal could handle it professionally without any disturbance from the police and the police should emulate PAS’ Unit Amal,” he said.

He noted how yesterday’s rally proceeded smoothly without incident, “because the Police and FRU did not fired tear gas and water cannons”.

In comparison, the Bersih 3.0 rally last April had ended “ugly” because of police action, he said.

“Now it has cleared the doubts that things get worse after the police (action) starts. All Malaysian love harmony and a peaceful gathering,” he said.

During one of the largest public gatherings at Bersih 3.0 last April 28, an estimated 150,000 in yellow marched the streets of KL and converged at Dataran Merdeka, demanding electoral reform.

The rally had proceeded without incident in a carnival atmosphere, until it was marred by chaos that ensued after water cannons were fired into the crowd who were at the time had been called by the organisers to disperse peacefully.

Suhakam is presently conducting an inquiry into the reports of police brutality during that historic gathering.

…in Malaysia, in a small town, just the day before yesterday, a group of young men, a Unit Amal of PAS did something so special, something not so common, to bring floods of unstoppable tears to someone dear to me!

Here’s the story in brief. A political rally was taking place when a group of youths on motor bikes came asking for trouble to an otherwise peaceful gathering.

Then one of these hecklers found himself isolated from his group and was surrounded by some rally attendees who were not humoured by his trouble rousing.

…..

Enter Unit Amal, another group of young men but whose presence at the rally was for the very opposite reason from the group of hecklers on bikes.

Unit Amal (available in various parts of the country), being well trained, well taught, well brought up religiously, well motivated, went into action.

Not to corner the young heckler so that the rally attendees could change his face for him.

Not to teach the young heckler a lesson that was long in coming for him. But to rescue him from some very angry people he had in the first place provoked.

The crowd was so thick and furious that the Unit Amal lads had to resort to all their logistics and strategic training and make several attempt to finally isolate the young heckler and take him to safety!
