ANWAR ON TOUR: UNDER ATTACK

Taman Kaya Mob goes ‘amok’!

LIM KIT SIANG ON THE ATTACK

Hishammuddin has made a half-hearted but totally unconvincing attempt at damage control when he twittered before noon today alleging that Malaysiakini had spun his comments on the security of PKR’s nationwide Jelajah Merdeka tour in Johore.

I have heard the audio clip of the interview with Hishammuddin which Malaysiakini had put up on its site, and it is clearly more supportive of the Malaysiakini report than Hishammuddin’s denial. What came clearly across is his refusal to give any guarantee for the safety of the PKR Merdeka Rakyat tour.

NO you did not say ‘position’, you said ‘SAFETY’ – Kit Siang ticks off ‘most shameful’ Hisham

Written by  Lim Kit Siang

The Home Minister, Datuk Seri Hishammuddin Hussein has made many outrageous statements and done many outrageous things in his political career…..

———-

Mother of all outrageous comments

However, Hishammuddin has put all his previous outrageous statements and acts in the shade with the “mother of all outrages” when he made it clear yesterday that there will be no guarantee of security for PKR’s nationwide Merdeka Rakyat tour, aggravated by the remarks”

If Hishammuddin has his fingers on the pulse of the people, he should have sensed the instant sense of outrage nation-wide at his abdication of responsibility as Home Minister among all right-thinking Malaysians, regardless of race, religion or political beliefs.

I stand by four tweets which I posted last night:

1. Most shameful statement for any responsible Home Minister http://goo.gl/2IrTU Hishammuddin: No safety guarantee for PKR – by Koh Jun Lin (Mkini)

2. No surprise if “No safety guarantee” come from keris-wielding UMNO leader but totally unbecoming and abdication of duty from a Home Minister

3. Hishammuddin’s “No safety guarantee” outrageous and deserve condemnation from all right-thinking Malaysians. Anyone in Umno/BN who dare 2speak up?

4. Hishammuddin proven to be utterly unprofessional Home Minister. Q is whether Police will also betray public trust and be equally unprofessional?

Home minister outdoes even himself

COMMENT More urgent to Prime Najib Abdul Razak than picking a suitable date for the country’s general election would be deciding whether his cousin, Hishammuddin Hussein, deserves to be in his cabinet of ministers – one equipped to carry out his so-called reform agenda.

The home minister, already notorious over the last six years for foot-in-the-mouth statements and public exhibitions of ethnic chauvinism like the waving of a ‘keris’, has now topped his record in bizarre conduct and statement.

This grandson of Umno’s distinguished and redoubtable founder (Onn Jaafar), and son of someone (Hussein Onn) who is regarded as an exemplar of leadership as a form of honest stewardship, was quoted yesterday as saying something that is a flagrant abdication of a home minister’s fiduciary duty.

As one of the more crucial exponents of the rule of law, and at a time when a dysfunctional wing of his ministry – the police force – is besieged by the perception that it is palpably remiss in its law enforcement and crime prevention functions, the home minister delivered himself of another outlandish statement.

Hishammuddin said there was no need to guarantee the safety of the campaign bus used by the opposition leader on an electioneering tour of the country, already stoned once and daubed with red paint twice.
………….
Barely had the minister finished speaking then the bus was splashed with red paint in Tangkak in the afternoon, on the first stop of its tour in the southern state.
………….

In mortal peril of electoral rejection

But Umno’s precariousness is increasingly clad by jingoism, as in Hishammuddin’s keris-waving, and compounded by fiduciary dereliction, as in his misconstruing of the duties of a home minister.

The forfeiture of the moral and political legitimacy of its governance is mirrored in the career of this scion of the party’s founding bluebloods, so observably illegitimate yet remorselessly ascendant within party and cabinet.

If you are wondering why Umno, despite being in mortal peril of electoral rejection, cannot reform take a look at Hishammuddin’s career: he’s from the top drawer by lineage, from its opposite by performance.

Expect no chastisement from superiors over his latest faux pas or a diminution of his prospects for upward mobility – plutocrats are famously exempt from the downward pulls of failure.

This is not just farce; it is burlesque parading on all fours.

ISSUES OF LAW AND ORDER

Whether it is the series of attacks on Anwar’s bus on tour or the attempt to attack journalists from Mediaperak by Taman Kaya, the act is wrong and illegal. The former is not primarily about politics, and the latter is not about ‘might is right’.

They are attacks on Law and Order, on the very fabric of what allows society to remain society.

If the Home Minister cannot understand that no one has the right to take the law into their own hands, he should resign.

‘Malaysiakini spun my words on PKR safety’
3:04PM Sep 15, 2012

Home Minister Hishammuddin Hussein today alleged that Malaysiakini had spun his comments on the security of PKR’s nationwide Jelajah Merdeka tour in Johor.
………….
The home minister in his Twitter today complained, “Malaysiakini spin (my words). I said the position of the opposition in Johor cannot be guaranteed.

“They spin that I said I cannot guarantee the safety of the opposition.’

“As I have always stressed, the safety of the rakyat will continue to be prioritised without ‘favouritism’! Without fear or favour,” Hishammuddin tweeted this morning.

HOWEVER, MALAYSIAKINI HAS PUBLISHED THE TRANSCRIPT OF THE INTERVIEW

Malaysiakini: Johor is an Umno stronghold and it seems the Johoreans are rejecting PKR, from the incident of their bus being splashed with paint. What is the reason for this rejection against PKR?

Hishammuddin: That you have to ask the Johor people themselves.

Malaysiakini: What message do you have for the people of Johor?

Hishammuddin:
None. The people of Johor are just as usual.

Malaysiakini: This is the third (paint splashing incident), would you be able to give a guarantee … (Hishammuddin interrupts the question at this point).

Hishammuddin:
There’s no need. The ones who will decide are the Johor people themselves. I think PKR also knows this and can evaluate for themselves what will happen there (in Johor). Ask the Johor people lah.

Malaysiakini: Does that mean they go knowing fully the risks…

Hishammuddin: This is politics. Politics is all about the risks.

Hishammuddin:
If they take the risks, calculated. If calculated tak jalan (if calculated risks don’t work), that means it is not their place to be there. In the end the people of Johor will decide. It is clear what has happened.

Malaysiakini spun my words on PKR safety’

Aunt Sally is a traditional throwing game. The term is often used metaphorically to mean something that is a target for criticism. In particular, referring to the fairground origins, an Aunt Sally would be “set up” deliberately to be subsequently “knocked down”, usually by the same person who set the person up.

Hisham turns Aunt Sally at PKR’s Johor dinner

Home Minister Hishammuddin Hussein became the target of criticism during PKR’s largest ever dinner at Skudai, Johor last night, for his statement that the government need not guarantee the safety of the PKR entourage in the southern state.

Describing the statement as clearly displaying ” arrogance of power”, PKR de facto leader Anwar Ibrahim (below) accused Hishammuddin of failing to discipline his supporters.

“You are working for the people, not the party, this is clearly arrogance of power.

“Luckily the supporters of PKR, PAS and DAP are far more disciplined. We are not easily provoked by them. We don’t want any fighting, we want to take over Putrajaya.

“This is one Malaysia two laws, one for Umno and the rich, and one for the people,” he said, referring to the arrest of a 19-year-old girl for allegedly stepping on prime minister’s photograph during a Merdeka eve rally.

Yesterday Anwar and PKR leaders were on a day’s tour of Johor in a symbolic double-decker campaign bus, meeting supporters and people in Tangkak, Muar, Batu Pahat and Skudai.

The bus was splashed with red paint for the third time, while Anwar was performing Friday prayers at a Tangkak mosque.

Just before reaching their dinner destination, a stone was allegedly thrown at the entourage from a pedestrian bridge and the road was strewn with nails.

Hishammuddin: No safety guarantee for PKR
  • Koh Jun Lin
  • 5:49PM Sep 14, 2012

There will be no guarantee of security for PKR’s nationwide Jelajah Merdeka Rakyat tour, says Home Minister Hishammuddin Hussien.

“No need for guarantees. It is decided by the people of Johor themselves.

“I think PKR knows this and can judge for itself from what is happening there,” he told Malaysiakini when asked about this on the sidelines of the Home Ministry’s open house in Putrajaya today.

PKR’s campaign tour bus was splashed with red paint while on its Johor leg today, the third such incident in the two weeks since it started the tour on Aug 31.

Asked whether he thought so because PKR went into Johor mindful of the risks of being in a state widely considered to be an Umno fortress, Hishammuddin replied that politics was all about taking risks.

“If even the calculated risks are a no-go, that means it is not their place to be there. The people of Johor will decide,” he said.
