MyWatch to Zahid: Arrest your nephews
The crime watch group alleges that one nephew impersonated a ministry spy and another abused his power.
PETALING JAYA: The Malaysian Crime Watch Task Force (MyWatch) alleged today that police had released a nephew of Home Minister Ahmad Zahid Hamidi after arresting him for impersonating a government official using a fake identity card.
According to a press statement from MyWatch Chairman R.Sri Sanjeevan, Special Branch Police in Alor Gajah arrested Mohd Shamsul Azren Atan for possession of fake documents indicating he was a spy for the Home Ministry.
Mohd Shamsul is believed to have obtained the identification card from Mohd Azrul Azli Amer Hamzah, who is a Special Officer to Zahid.
“Further investigation revealed that both Mohd Shamsul and Mohd Azrul are nephews of Zahid. Mohd Shamsul was released from custody following the instructions of the Alor Gajah CID chief,” Sanjeevan said.
“MyWatch questions the release of Mohd Shamsul as he has committed a serious crime for impersonating a spy from the Home Ministry.
“MyWatch also requests for a fair and transparent investigation of Mohd Azrul, who abused his power as a government official.

Bogus govt personnel held
A NEPHEW of a VIP’s wife has been caught by the police for posing as a Home Ministry “intelligence unit” personnel, reported Harian Metro.
The man had in his possession an “authority card” from the non-existent unit.
The man, in his 30s and working at a hotel, was detained during a raid at an entertainment outlet in Melaka Raya.
The report, quoting sources, said the man flashed the card to Malacca City Council enforcement officers who conducted the raid, with the aim of “helping two of his friends who were inside during the raid”.
Malacca CID chief Asst Comm Raja Shahrom Raja Abdullah said such a unit did not exist and the ministry had never issued such as a card.
“So far, we have not received any complaint of people posing as Home Ministry intelligence officers,” he said.

Ismail Sabri defends daughter’s lavish wedding, says he cut costs with KL dinners
BY THE MALAYSIAN INSIDER
January 12, 2014
It was dubbed the wedding of the year for its opulence but Umno minister Datuk Seri Ismail Sabri Yaakob has defended his daughter’s lavish wedding ceremony and dinner in Kuala Lumpur as a thrifty expenditure at a time when Putrajaya is on an austerity drive.
The Agriculture and Agro-Based Industries Minister’s daughter Nina Sabrina had married celebrity Indonesian fashion designer Jovian Mandagie at an extravagant wedding that included the akad nikah ceremony at the previous Istana Negara and a two-day reception at a five-star hotel in Kuala Lumpur, attended by royalties, celebrities, politicians and socialites.
“To cut cost, I even asked my son-in-law to do his reception in KL. If it’s in Jakarta, my family and relatives will have to fly there and as a result, I have to bear more cost for flight tickets and accommodation.
“So that’s why the reception was held over two days – one for my family, and the other by my in-laws. But without knowing facts, I got attacked,” Ismail Sabri told The Malaysian Insider, adding that the reception at his Temerloh hometown in Pahang was done gotong-royong style where everyone pitched in to help.
But the minister refused to reveal the cost of the wedding.

Health Minister Dr S Subramaniam was forced to wait for 15 minutes before being sent to the Alor Gajah Hospital in a Projek Penyelenggaraan Lebuhraya Bhd (Propel) vehicle, following a collision at the south-bound 220.6km North-South Expressway yesterday.
The MIC deputy president however, saw a ‘positive picture’ in the delay to the hospital after his official car had collided with a lorry about 8pm.
Based on his personal experience last night, he felt it was imperative the ministry look into ways to cooperate with Propel to provide medical aid to victims of accidents in the expressway before they are sent to the nearest hospital.
“That cooperation should involve emergency aid training and basic medical equipment for Propel staff.
“The move is one solution for providing early emergency aid when a mishap takes place and the ambulance does not come (on time) to the scene,” he told a press conference at the Malacca Hospital today, where he was warded.

KUALA LUMPUR: A police report was lodged against a ‘Datuk Seri’ who allegedly slapped a security guard after the guard asked him to move his car that was illegally parked at a shopping mall in Bandar Baru Klang.
Nepali ex-policeman Prakash Adhikari, 35 said the ‘Datuk Seri’ and a group of men were up in a black Mercedes Benz that parked at a VIP spot in front of Centro Mall here at around 5pm Wednesday.
He said the car number plate was not registered for any of the reserved spots, but the man disregarded no-parking signs and traffic cones and parked there.
“I told him that he could not park there as I did not recognise his car number and said he would have to go to the parking lot like everyone else.
“Then he said to me, ‘Do you even know who I am? I’m a Datuk Seri, you useless pati (foreigner),” said Prakash.
The security guard remained insistent that the man move his car and tried to call the mall management when the man slapped him two times on the face.
He and his five associates then left the car parked in the spot and went for a meal in the mall.

EX-WIFE OF SARAWAK’S CHIEF MINISTER TESTIFIES IN COURT…
Malaysiakini

Ex-wife: CM’s son Bekir was unfaithful to me
Shahnaz A Majid has claimed in the Kuala Lumpur Syariah High Court that her former husband and corporate player Mahmud Abu Bekir Taib had been unfaithful to her.
She said Mahmud Abu Bekir, a son of Sarawak Chief Minister Abdul Taib Mahmud, had taken an Australian woman to his sister’s wedding in 2000.
Testifying in her RM100 million claim for mutaah (matrimonial gift), Shahnaz described how she had also felt humiliated when Mahmud Abu Bekir told The Peak magazine some time in 2010 that he was married to a Russian, Elena Vasilenko.
“My then husband did not relate to the magazine that I was still his legal wife and I felt humiliated,” she said today in reply to questions from her lawyer, Akbardin Abdul Kader.
“Our marriage in 1992 began well but he went on his wild ways soon after, bringing the Australian lady Louise Hiley to the Sarawak chief minister’s house during his sister’s wedding in 2000.”
Shahnaz said she does not know whether her former husband had married Hiley or not. The two are said to have a son, named Adam.
The former wife said since then, the two have separated and custody of the son has been given to Hiley.
…
Shahnaz related this in open court, during the re-trial of her multi-million ringgit mutaah claim against Mahmud Abu Bekir. Besides Akbardin, lawyer Rafie Mohd Shafie is co-counsel for Shahnaz.
The re-trial was ordered on Nov 14 last year after the Syariah Court of Appeal ruled that the previous proceeding was not according to procedures and ordered all related documents to be produced.

Guess who reports to daddy in the Tourism ministry?
| Harakahdaily, | 14 August 2013 |
Aug 14: A check on the online portal of the Ministry of Tourism will show up a familiar name linked to the current minister Nazri Aziz – not professionally, but by blood ties.

The son of Nazri Aziz, Mohamad Nedim, once praised by his father as a successful businessman, is listed as a special officer at the ministry.
After the 13th general election, Nazri replaced Ng Yen Yen as Tourism minister.

Of Nedim, gold-plated ‘bubur ayam’ and fine wines
| Harakahdaily, | 09 April 2012 |
Harakahdaily has stumbled upon photographs of Nedim and his circle of friends posted under his account on the image-sharing site Lockerz (right), giving the public a glimpse of this personality, but more importantly, they offer a pictorial explanation of the rich-poor gap that continues to divide Malaysians.
From “chillin by the pool”, participating in a convoy of luxury sports cars, holidaying in Europe to dining at fine restaurants, Nedim is the epitome of Malaysia’s “one percent”, the current parlance for elites of society who own the bulk of a country’s wealth at the cost of 99 per cent of the population. One should not expect such characters to have any inkling about the complaints of rising costs of living that have coloured political debates around the world.
Of course, not unlike sons of recently deposed leaders of the Middle East, there are also the symbolic gestures by the rich, and in Nedim’s case, he brandishes a photograph of him “breaking fast with anak yatim” (orphans).
The young chairman
Nedim, according to his Twitter account, is chairman of Harrison (M) Berhad in addition to his post as director of Charisma Positief, which turns out to be a company selling used, presumably luxury, cars.
Presumably, this is the same ‘Harrison’ which has its website at http://www.harrisons.com.my, a company which has its origins in Sabah, and concentrates its businesses in East Malaysia, dealing with “marketing, sales, warehousing and distribution of fast moving consumer goods, building materials, engineering products and agricultural chemicals; operation of shipping and travel agencies”.

BOTTLED TASTE … One of the wine brands available at Harrison’s wine shop
One of its clients listed under its fast-moving consumer goods (FMCG) division is Asia Pacific Brewery, dealing with such brands like Tiger Beer, Heineken, Anchor, Guinness, Anglia and Malta. Indeed, one of Harrison’s subsidiaries, Harrisons Marketing and Services Sdn. Bhd, is set up to specialise in the business of fine wine, with a large retail store located at Jalan 222, Petaling Jaya.
In the unlikely situation that cabinet ministers are required to declare their wealth, these information, if true, would spell disaster to Nazri more than his son.
After all, Nedim has made it known that he is least bothered with the publicity around him.
“I seem to attract haters/poor media and I enjoy every moment of it,” says a message introducing himself on Twitter.

Nothing wrong with ministers hiring family member as a volunteer, says Najib – Bernama
There is no problem with a minister or a member of the government administration recruiting a family member as his aide if it does not involve any payment of salary or allowance to the aide by the government, says Prime Minister Datuk Seri Najib Razak.
“If such an aide is hired by the minister and gets paid by the government, it is not allowed.
“But if the work is carried out on a voluntary basis and the aide is not a member of the minister’s office, we have no objection to this. (It’s okay if) he assists in the programmes and does not involve any payment to him by the government.”
…
On the issue of Tourism and Culture Minister Datuk Seri Mohamed Nazri Abdul Aziz who was claimed to have hired his own son as a special officer with the ministry, Najib said he understood that the son was not an official aide who was paid a salary by the government.
“I learnt that he is only helping out unofficially. He is not listed as a minister’s aide who is paid a salary and allowance by the government,” he said.
—
The issue was first raised by a pro-establishment blogger Cucu Tok Selampit, who had said that this could turn off ‘supporters of the government’.
“How can supporters of the government defend their leaders if they keep practising nepotism and cronyism?
“We cannot talk about (Pakatan Rakyat leaders) Anwar Ibrahim, Lim Kit Siang, Karpal Singh and Nik Aziz etc. who promote their children if Umno/BN leaders do so themselves,” said the blogger.

Nazri Aziz says son not on government payroll, works for him
Tourism and Culture Minister Datuk Seri Mohamad Nazri Aziz has said his son was not on the government payroll though he is listed as a “special assistant”.
Nazri said he paid Muhammad Nedim Nazri to carry out youth activities in his constituency.
“I can call him errand boy or office boy, if that would please people. I am paying him, not the government,” he told The Malaysian Insider today.
The controversial Nedim whose brushes with notoriety in the past had earned Nazri unnecessary attention is in the spotlight again, this time for being listed as an employee in the Ministry website, raising questions of “nepotism and cronyism”, reported The Malaysiakini news portal today.
The Ministry site, however, does not detail what Nedim’s responsibilities are as a special officer.
Nazri said his son ran programmes for the youth in his Padang Rengas constituency in Perak.
“Obviously someone young has to be doing it. I don’t want an Umno Youth person doing it as I am trying to reach as many youngsters as possible. So I asked him and I am paying him for it from my own pocket,” said Nazri who said Nedim is not an Umno member.

Hummer turns out a bummer
Analysis
By Joceline Tan
Datuk Seri Nazri Aziz, who is more used to being on the attack, has been put on the defensive over questions surrounding his son, a black Hummer and a controversial Sabah businessman.
DATUK Seri Nazri Aziz is quite the fearless type. The Minister in the Prime Minister’s Department has taken on big personalities like Tun Dr Mahathir Mohamad and survived.
He gives as good as he gets and it is quite ironic that he may have met his match in Rafizi Ramli, someone much more junior and who is not even an MP. But Rafizi is a shrewd strategist in PKR and Nazri seems to have walked into a trap set by the younger man.
……………..
A politician’s son using a vehicle belonging to a businessman would not have raised eyebrows under most ordinary circumstances. But Nazri had, only a couple of weeks ago cleared Chia’s name, denying that the Sabah businessman was connected to Musa or that Chia was being investigated by Hong Kong and Swiss authorities.
Nazri is the Law Minister and he knows where the lines are drawn. He should have excused himself from answering the query in Parliament. That way, Rafizi would not have the satisfaction of saying that “the one who clears Chia turns out to be the one whose family receives benefits”.
……………..
“If he (Chia) wants to give my son a Hummer or Ferrari, that is his business. It is not like he is giving it to me,” he had said.
Still, it does look like Nazri is in a tight corner. He has to come up with a more substantial explanation or else public opinion will not be sympathetic to him. As it is, people are asking: what else, besides the car?

COMMENT De facto Law Minister Nazri Aziz should step down as minister in the Prime Minister’s Department.
Nazri’s handling of the latest (PKR strategy director) Rafizi Ramli expose over his alleged links to timber tycoon Micheal Chia is disgraceful to say the least.
He has brought Parliament into disrepute. His remarks that “he doesn’t screw his son” among other comments made, is not only unparliamentary, it is wholly unbecoming of a minister who is also responsible for parliamentary affairs.
Further and in addition to that, Nazri has no right to contend that his relationship with Chia would not impact and conflict with his responses in Parliament over the RM40 million fiasco as de facto law minister.

The politician, his son and the crony
There are many more ministerial children of whom we have heard nothing, yet.
If the way to a man’s heart is through his stomach, then the way to an Umno politician’s heart, is through his spouse or children. In Malaysia, cronies beat a path to the politician’s door, to provide material goods for his family members.
…………..
Plum jobs and multi-million dollar government contracts are reserved for the offspring of Umno politicians, their cronies and pro-Umno civil servants.
The rakyat have heard of a few of the children of ministers who are allegedly involved in cronyism and corruption, but there are many more ministerial children of whom we have heard nothing, yet.
Whose son was allegedly awarded the RM128.4 million air traffic control system contract, through a “closed tender” process?
……………..
Whose children are allegedly hiding in New York, at least until the furore of the scandal they are involved in, dies down? Were Muslims aware that this Hari Raya Haji 3,000 cattle had to be imported from Thailand for sacrificial slaughter?
……………..
Whose sons are indirectly involved in the latest launch of the airline, Malindo Airways?
……………..
Which daughter of a former top civil servant owns a major interest in alternative energy projects in Malaysia?
………………
The list is endless.
………………
Yesterday, Nazri ignored criticism of his son’s relationship with Michael Chia, the businessman who is embroiled in the RM40 million money laundering saga. Despite assertions that this money was destined for Sabah Umno, the members of Sabah Umno claim to have no knowledge of this donation.
……………..
In Malaysia, the person who is worse than the Umno crony is possibly the Umno politician’s son. He acts without restraint. He is free to do as he pleases. He is no better than a thug and he does not value your safety, nor your life.

Nazri: My son is not my wife, he doesn’t tell me what he does

KUALA LUMPUR, Nov 1 — Datuk Seri Mohamed Nazri Aziz said today he does not see any wrong in his son’s alleged use of a car belonging to Michael Chia, pointing out that Nedim’s relationship with the Sabah timber trader has no connection to his integrity as a Cabinet minister.
He told reporters that he does not police Nedim’s every movement as the latter is an adult, adding that if his son was indeed using Chia’s car, it was a personal arrangement between him and Chia.
“I don’t sleep with my son. I am not gay (homosexual). My son is not my wife, my son is not my lover. What he does, he doesn’t tell me.
“That is between my son and Michael Chia. If he (Chia) wants to give [Nedim] a Hummer or a Ferarri, it is Michael Chia’s business… its not like he (Chia) is giving it to me… and I am the minister, not my son,” Nazri told reporters when approached in Parliament today.
“What has he committed, tell me? He is not a minister. Where is the conflict of interest? He is my son,” he added later, when asked if he felt that Nedim had committed an offence by using Chia’s car.

“The meeting minutes mention the government departments involved and state that no bills should be claimed from the chief minister, everything is free.
According to the copy of the minutes made available to the media later, PKNM chief executive officer Yusof Jantan had instructed that the meeting was to “discuss the preparations in terms of outdoor decoration, cleanliness and logistics of the CM’s son’s wedding on Sept 30”.

Malacca folks interviewed by Malaysiakini are split over the massive eight-hour wedding held by their Chief Minister Mohd Ali Rustam for his eldest son on Sunday.
……………..
One of them, whom Malaysiakini interviewed at Malacca city, Zawiyah Abdul Rahman, 60, said there was nothing wrong with the wedding reception.
“The function was in line with his (Mohd Ali) capacity as the number one leader in the state. What’s more, he was inviting the people to attend.
“The function was to celebrate his eldest son’s marriage, and I think there was nothing wrong for him to hold a slightly bigger reception,” the housewife said.
Mohd Khahar Mohtar (right), 26, felt the function was to showcase the people’s support for Ali.
……………….
However 38-year-old reporter Zaili Muhammad Imbiah held an opposite view, accusing the chief minister of abusing government machinery.
“I saw many policemen and personnel from the Road Transport Department deployed to control traffic at the wedding reception,” he said.
Another woman, who only wanted to be known as Neo, opined that the wedding was meant to “show off” and there was a political agenda behind it.
Ahmad Firdaus Mohd Piah, 26, told Malaysiakini that the multi-million ringgit spent on the wedding should instead be used to benefit the people.

Record-setting wedding of Ali Rustam’s son paid for by sponsors
KUALA LUMPUR, Oct 3 ― Datuk Seri Mohd Ali Rustam’s office was forced to reveal yesterday that many of the caterers and other businesses sponsored the lavish wedding dinner of the Malacca chief minister’s son that drew over 130,000 guests during the weekend.
The wedding has come under intense public scrutiny after national news agency Bernama reported on Sunday that 26-year-old Mohd Ridhwan’s marriage to Nur Azieha Mohd Ali, also 26, lasted eight hours, with the number of guests earning a place in the Malaysia Book of Records.
An official with the Malaysia Book of Records was also present to present a certificate to the chief minister.
Mohd Ali’s special secretary Datuk MS Mahadevan was reported by The Star today as saying much of the wedding’s cost was paid for through sponsors. But he did not reveal the total cost.
Mohd Ali also did not say how much the wedding cost him, but dismissed suggestions that the wedding attended by more than 130,000 people was a lavish affair.
“No one was forced to attend the event, including state government employees,” said Mahadevan yesterday.
“This is the first wedding ceremony for the chief minister’s family and every Malaccan wanted to take part. Even estate workers wearing slippers stood in line to shake hands with the bride and bridegroom.
“Not a single sen was paid to these volunteers.”

Unnamed UMNO watcher, “If there are no kingmakers like Mahathir around intervening at the highest levels, and it is a case of the most popular man wins, then Ali Rustam would win the Umno presidency hands down. But chances are, he will form a pact with either Muhyiddin or Najib. It all depends on what they offer each other. He can be Muhyddin’s running mate to take on Najb or be Najib’s new running mate to stave off a Muhyiddin challenge. We have to wait and see.”

GUNNING AGAIN to be the Umno No. 2? Ali Rustam stirs undercurrents with mega dinner
Written by Wong Choon Mei, Malaysia Chronicle
Malacca Chief Minister Ali Rustam, who was forced to drop out of the Umno deputy presidential race amid allegations of ‘money politics’, is again in the spotlight after throwing a super-sized attention-grabbing wedding banquet for his son.
Speculation is swirling that he might targeting one of the party’s topmost positions when internal polls are held next year latest by October 2013.
Malaysians are also wondering where Ali got the money for the dinner, which drew a crowd of 130,000 guests. The event which took place at the Dewan Tun Ali Bukit Katil, Ayer Keroh in Malacca has even made it to the Malaysia Book of Records.
“Itu duit siapa? (Whose money is it?)” Taiping MP Nga Kor Ming asked on Twitter.
…………..
RM1.3 million to RM13 million for a wedding dinner!
Meanwhile, Kor Ming’s DAP colleague, Lim Kit Siang, reckons the cost of the Ali banquet could potentially hit RM13million just for the food if Ali had ordered a menu costing RM100 per head.
But even at RM10 per head, the cost would still be a staggering RM1.3million, noted Lim who is also the Ipoh Timur MP.
Rushing to the Chief Minister’s defense was Malacca Umno executive secretary Akbar Ali, who played down the costs. Akbar said the Opposition leaders should not assume the wedding banquet would cost the same as a Chinese dinner.
“Awak ingat ini jamuan makan malam 9 jenis seperti masyarakat Cina dengan sup sirip ikan yu. Ini cara kamu wujudkan fitnah. Ini orang yang sakit (You think this is a nine-course dinner like a Chinese dinner with shark’s fin soup. This is how you create lies. This is what makes people sick.)” Akbar tweeted back

Malacca Chief Minister Mohd Ali Rustam has been urged to reveal the cost of the massive eight-hour wedding function for his eldest son yesterday, which reportedly attracted 130,000 people.
The event took place at Dewan Tun Ali in Bukit Katil and the host of people it attracted included the Sultan of Selangor, several cabinet ministers and a number of other VIPs. Diva Siti Nurhaliza performed at the event.
Malaysia Book of Records certified the wedding feast to be the biggest crowd ever recorded at a wedding, outdoing Prime Minister Najib Abdul Razak’s Aidilfitri open house event this year, which reportedly attracted 100,000 people.
Contacted today, Ayer Keroh assemblyperson Khoo Poay Tiong said Ali should explain how the grandiose event was paid for.
“I’m estimating that food alone cost RM10 per head. Thus, if there were 130,000 people, then the event would have cost at least RM1.3 million for food alone. Then, what about the other costs?
“If the chief minister is someone who is sincere and honest, he should reveal the cost of the event and name the sponsors,” Khoo, who is Malacca DAP secretary, said.
He also questioned how the people have benefited from the massive event and the need for it to be certified by the Malaysia Book of Records.

BN MPs defend Najib over son-in-law conman allegations
KUALA LUMPUR, June 13 — Barisan Nasional (BN) lawmakers rushed today to the defence of Datuk Seri Najib Razak’s family after court papers in the United States alleged his future son-in-law fudged academic credentials to enter Columbia University and cheated his former stepfather of a RM60 million home.
The MPs dismissed the allegations as having nothing to do with Najib’s leadership of Malaysia.
Yesterday, several foreign newspapers including the New York Post reported that Daniyar Nazarbayev was being sued for cheating his former stepfather, the brother of Kazakhstan President Nursultan Nazarbayev, and for fudging his records to gain entrance into the presitigious Columbia University.

BN’s Brat Pack Boys – Snowdan Lawan
Posted Saturday, May 19th, 2012
Fast cars – Snowdan poses by his Lamborghini, but most people in Balai Ringin are still waiting for water and electricity
The UK has changed government 11 times since the date that Malaysia was given independence and in the same period France has had 20 Prime Ministers.
However, during that entire 55 years UMNO/BN has grasped onto power, while at the same time calling Malaysia a democracy.
The result has been predictable. The few families in power have become ridiculously rich, while paying little attention to the often desperate needs of the rest of the people
So, it is hardly surprising that when BN’s old men start talking about handing over control of government they are thinking in terms of inheritance not elections!

Investigate Porsche-driving son of Nazri
| Harakahdaily, | 28 March 2012 |
However, PKR vice president N Surendran turned his attention to the fact that at the time of the incident, Mohamad Nedim Nazri Aziz (pic) had driven to the high-end condominium in a Porsche, accompanied by his bodyguard who drove a luxury MPV.
“The MACC must now investigate the sources of funds for the Porsche and luxury MPV used by Minister Nazri Aziz’s son and make public their findings as a matter of public interest,” said Surendran in a statement urging the Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission to spring into action.
Yesterday, Nazri, while saying he should not blamed for his son’s conduct, remained silent about the luxury vehicles.
The luxury vehicles caught the public attention because Nazri had prior to this come out strongly against a proposal by MACC for cabinet members to declare their wealth to the commission.
Surendran questioned how a minister on government salary could afford such a lavish lifestyle for himself and his family.
