US electric car maker Tesla did not announce plans to build a factory in Malaysia, says Investment, Trade and Industry Minister Tengku Zafrul Aziz.

"We did discuss with (Tesla CEO) Elon Musk about attracting investment, but Tesla never committed to opening a factory here."

The Minister also said Malaysia attracted RM24.55 billion worth of investments from 2022 until Q1 this year.

This is from EV-related manufacturing activities from companies such as Chery, Gemilang Coachwork, Samsung SDI Energy, NexV Manufacturing and EVE Energy, he said.
