Wow, this is quite a jump! #CCP says today that 59,938 people died of # COVID-related diseases in all hospitals in #China from Dec 8 to Jan 12. But only 5503 died directly from #COVID. All others had underlying issues. Average age of the dead is 80.3 years old.

it's just cases recorded in healthcare facilities so it doesn't account for the covid related deaths that occurred at home, in care homes or those who were never diagnosed. but it's at least a step forward that they are releasing a number.https://t.co/yGis28t1Mq

China’s gov has been criticised for a very narrow definition of Covid death that excluded underlying diseases (& made China’s death rate appear far far lower than other countries). But these figures include deaths from people with both Covid & other diseases. Average age is 80.3
