The British Medical Association (BMA) is the trade union and professional body for doctors in the UK.

To clarify this is not a BMA award and the BMA have played no role in the decision to make this award. We do not endorse the views of Dr Aseem Malhotra

Your clarification won’t reach the people who follow Malhotras misinformation and his tweet is now viewed as tacit approval by the BMA as this response proves pic.twitter.com/vZrT6bH9pc

Back in June, Aseem Malhotra said he was "honoured to receive" an award "from the Chair of the BMA". Except the award wasn't from the BMA. Or given to him by its Chair. Malhotra was lying.

The newly released BMA review of the debacle is quite a read…https://t.co/qRBc66WQCG pic.twitter.com/bh03y6yeJk
Oddly, having decided to give Malhotra and BMA Chair Chaand Nagpaul one-off awards, the organiser forgot to bring them to the dinner to present to his guests. 🤨

He then called Nagpaul the next day to give him his award and take photos, including one of Malhotra with his award. pic.twitter.com/tqIdGoKUTl
Both Malhotra and the dinner's organiser JS Bamrah then posted photos on Twitter with misleading captions claiming Malhotra's award had been presented by Nagpaul.

In fact Nagpaul and Malhotra both got their awards from Bamrah, and Malhotra basically photobombed Nagpaul with his. pic.twitter.com/mD3T925dj0
So Malhotra basically used a tribute to his late father to give a speech "advocating real evidence-based medicine", got a made-up award from the dinner's organiser, then took a photo with the BMA's Chair in a lobby the next day and falsely claimed he gave him the award.

And, in case you missed it, this video covers just a small proportion of the misrepresentations in Malhotra's bogus paper:https://t.co/VNYlsk2q4Y
