KUALA LUMPUR: The wearing of face masks will no longer be mandatory at indoor places, Health Minister Khairy Jamaluddin announced Wednesday (Sept 7).

Khairy said mask wearing will only be compulsory at public transportation like buses, trains, air flights, taxis, e-hailing vehicles, as well as at hospitals and medical institutions.

Other areas have become optional, but KKM strongly encourage masks to still be worn when in crowded places like night markets, places of worship, stadiums.

Individuals who are symptomatic are also required to put on masks.

Khairy said the removal takes effect immediately (as of Sept 7).
