PETALING JAYA: The prevalence of Long Covid symptoms by individuals who have recovered from Covid-19 is above 60%, says health minister Khairy Jamaluddin.

He said the Long Covid prevalence rate of those recovering from Covid-19 Category 4 and 5 was at 65.1%.

“Of this, 61.2% have experienced more than two Long Covid symptoms,” he said in a statement.

The symptoms of Long Covid include fatigue, cough, breathing difficulty, joint and muscle pain, brain fog, skin lesions and anxiety.

To assist those suffering from Long Covid, Khairy said the health ministry was using rehabilitative medicine to improve their functionality through diagnosis, healthcare, reducing disability as well as complication prevention.

“Since April, a total of 2,798 patients have undergone rehabilitative medical in-patient treatment for Long Covid while 6,432 patients received rehabilitative medical out-patient treatment at health ministry facilities.

“As many as 30% to 40% of Long Covid patients have been able to return to work within three months, while 60% to 70% can return to work within six months after being infected with Covid-19,” he said.

Khairy also stressed that the ministry would continue to add more resources and equipment to treat and rehabilitate Long Covid cases as part of a strategy to protect and treat those at high risk of contracting the virus. — Free Malaysia Today
