2 traffic cops under probe for ‘escorting’ MP’s son

GEORGE TOWN: The police are investigating allegations that two traffic policemen had escorted a private vehicle, reportedly belonging to the son of an MP, along Jalan Bukit Gambir, near here.
Penang police chief Shuhaily Mohd Zain said a disciplinary probe has also been opened into the two policemen who were seen in the video, that has gone viral on social media since yesterday, Bernama reported.
Yesterday, news portal The Vibes reported that the driver in the video clip was Baling MP Abdul Azeez Abdul Rahim’s son. He was seen driving in Penang escorted by two traffic policemen.
The report also stated that in another video clip which was posted as an Instagram story yesterday and has since expired, one of the traffic policemen was seen stopping traffic at a junction in order to allow the “escorted vehicle” to run the red light.
The report said an oncoming vehicle can be seen braking abruptly to avoid colliding with the outrider.

KUALA LUMPUR – Videos of outriders escorting the son of Baling MP Datuk Seri Abdul Azeez Abdul Rahim through the streets of Penang are being investigated by police.
One video in question was posted by an Instagram account with the handle @anwarazeez yesterday, showing Azeez’s son Mohamed Khairul Anwar driving in Penang with two police outriders.
In one of the videos, which was posted as an Instagram story and has since expired, an outrider appeared to stop an oncoming car looking to make a turn, allowing Khairul’s vehicle to run the red light.
The oncoming vehicle can be seen braking abruptly to avoid colliding with the outrider who is on a motorcycle in the recording.
Penang police chief Datuk Mohd Shuhaily Mohd Zain told The Vibes that authorities are looking into the incident.
“We are looking into it and a media release will be done soon once we have clarified the facts.”
Shuhaily did not comment when asked if Khairul was on government business that might have required a police escort.

Georgetown: Polis Pulau Pinang menjalankan siasatan terperinci berhubung satu rakaman video yang memaparkan seorang lelaki memandu sebuah kenderaan dan diiringi oleh dua anggota polis trafik menggunakan motosikal milik Polis Diraja Malaysia (PDRM) di Jalan Bukit Gambir, dekat sini.
Ketua Polis Pulau Pinang Datuk Mohd Shuhaily Mohd Zain berkata, pihaknya juga telah membuka satu kertas siasatan tatatertib ke atas dua anggota polis negeri itu susulan video yang tular di media sosial sejak semalam.
“Pada Sabtu (semalam) kira-kira 8.36 malam terkesan satu rakaman video yang tular berdurasi 20 saat, dimuat naik oleh pemilik akaun anwarazeez dan rakaman tersebut memaparkan seorang lelaki (orang awam) memandu sebuah kenderaan dan diiringi dua anggota polis trafik menggunakan motosikal milik PDRM.
“Pihak Kontinjen Pulau Pinang mengesahkan berkenaan kejadian yang berlaku di Jalan Bukit Gambir itu dan pihak polis tidak akan berkompromi dengan mana-mana pegawai polis yang melakukan salah laku berkenaan,” katanya dalam kenyataan hari ini.
Menerusi klip video itu yang dimuat naik di laman sosial Facebook, kelihatan dua anggota polis trafik mengiringi kenderaan yang didakwa dipandu oleh seorang anak Ahli Parlimen.
Paparan video berkenaan mendapat kecaman warganet yang tidak berpuas hati dengan individu tersebut yang menggunakan khidmat anggota polis trafik bagi meredah kesesakan jalan raya di Pulau Pinang.
Georgetown: Penang Police are conducting a detailed investigation into a video recording showing a man driving a vehicle and accompanied by two traffic policemen on a motorcycle belonging to the Royal Malaysian Police (PDRM) at Jalan Bukit Gambir, near here.
Penang police chief Datuk Mohd Shuhaily Mohd Zain said his department had also opened a disciplinary investigation paper on the two state policemen following a video that had spread on social media since yesterday.
“On Saturday (yesterday) at about 8.36pm, a 20-second infectious video recording was detected, uploaded by the owner of the anwarazeez account and the recording showed a man (public) driving a vehicle and accompanied by two traffic policemen on a PDRM motorcycle. .
“The Penang Contingent has confirmed the incident that took place in Jalan Bukit Gambir and the police will not compromise with any police officer who committed the misconduct,” he said in a statement today.
Through the video clip that was uploaded on the social networking site Facebook, two traffic policemen were seen escorting a vehicle that was allegedly driven by a Member of Parliament’s son.
The video was criticized by netizens who were dissatisfied with the individual who used the services of traffic policemen to clear the road congestion in Penang.
