   We have relatives in Fujian Province. Two visits: Dec2005 and Dec2015. Note 10 years apart. In the first visit, the village was like our poor kampung. No drains. Water just flowing along the path of least resistance. We visited a school and gave out sweets to children playing in a dirt grassless field. In 2015, there was a big flat screen TV in the ancestral home. Modern tiled bathroom/toilet. A high speed railway can be seen a short distance behind the house. Proper drains. Paved roads. We took a trip to a mountain resort. On the way back we took the high speed train that started from Beijing. It was on time! We had 2 minutes to board. We had no time to look for a place to put our luggage when the train took off. It was so smooth that we could take our time to settle in. If only our MRT and LRT could move this smooth. I think they are richer than us now because I only bought my first 21-inch flat screen TV in 2019. I doubt there is zero extreme poverty in China but I bet you all our B40 and even M40 will trade places with their Chinese counterparts. We have regressed. Tin, palm oil, rubber, petroleum. We could have been light years ahead of Singapore. What happened to all our riches?
