MP Simpang Renggam Liang Teck Meng quoted Wikileaks as his source. But the fact is, Wikileaks never has such information! What more do we need to prove that he has misled the Dewan?

No WikiLeaks record of my ‘foreign stash’

By Leven Woon

He says BN’s Liang Teck Meng should be referred to the rights and privileges committee for misleading the house on his (Anwar’s) alleged 20 foreign bank accounts.

KUALA LUMPUR: Opposition Leader Anwar Ibrahim today debunked a BN backbencher’s remarks quoting whistle-blowing site WikiLeaks that he owned 20 bank accounts totaling RM322 million in foreign countries including Israel, saying the allegations were fictional.

“In fact, there was no such reference being made in any WikiLeaks entry on Malaysia,” he told the Dewan Rakyat today, in reference to Liang Teck Meng statement.

Anwar said the allegations had first appeared on pro-Umno blogs, which claimed that their information was retrieved from WikiLeaks.

Liang yesterday claimed Anwar owned treasure trove of US$66 million (RM209 million) and S$49 million (RM123 million) in banks in United States, Singapore, China and Israel.

He criticised Anwar for being a hypocrite by having numerous bank accounts in Israel despite having taken parts in the previous House’s motions to criticise Israel for its violent acts in Gaza.

When several opposition members wanted to use the House’s standing orders to urge Liang to withdraw his alleged “false” statements, the deputy speaker had shot down the requests, saying that Liang was merely quoting WikiLeaks.

Mocking Liang today, Anwar said the sole Gerakan MP should have known the risk of quoting WikiLeaks because there are also references made in the whistleblowing website on Najib’s alleged involvement in the murder of Mongolian national Altantuya Shaariibuu.

“None of the WikiLeaks entry say that I own bank accounts in Israel, but there are entry that suggests that Pekan (Prime Minister Najib Tun Razak) is involved in the Altantuya case,” he said.

YOURSAY ‘MP Liang cannot see the difference between the Wikileaks website and pro-Umno website. We must check if he had attended secondary school.’

Simpang Renggam MP ‘misled House’, claims PKR

your say LittleGiant: BN’s Simpang Renggam MP Liang Teck Meng must be taken to task and censured for having ‘misled the Dewan Rakyat’ in saying that Opposition Leader Anwar Ibrahim “owns 20 foreign bank accounts”.

If this is not done, then it will only set a precedent for more BN lawmakers to follow suit and give them the freedom to utter whatever nonsense about opposition politicians in Parliament.

It is imperative on the part of all elected representatives, both from the ruling and the opposition coalitions, to maintain dignity and be responsible for each and every word they speak inside the august house.

Parliament is not a place for lawmakers to simply make baseless accusations and sensationalise issues and get away with it.

Tpn: MP Liang cannot see the difference between the Wikileaks website and pro-Umno website. We must check if he had attended secondary school.

Odin: Liang Teck Meng’s low level of maturity and shallow depth of general knowledge are clearly illustrated here.

If Wikileaks leaks any sensitive data such as that he has echoed, it is more likely to be related to Umno-BN politicians rather than Pakatan Rakyat ones. We can safely assume that the people in Wikileaks are well-informed of the major happenings in Malaysia and elsewhere and, therefore, know who to side.

And merely echoing what a pro-Umno blog has claimed? I’d let him know that I once came across a website where a long list containing names, passport numbers and bank account details of Umno politicians and their family members were posted, but – and although I detest Umno – I took its veracity not with a pinch of salt but with enough amount of it to require a fleet of merchant vessels to transport.

How old is this politician again? Six? Seven? Eight?

Armchair Newspaper: Quoting from unverifiable source is reckless and unbecoming of the MP and is unparliamentarian.

The quality of BN MPs have always been deplorable and low. Many of whom are barely intelligible when they speak and one suspects some are barely literate and educated.

Mahashitla: Wow, now this Yang Berhormat, BN Simpang Renggam MP has turned himself into an Umno propaganda and spinning machine.

He should have brought up the more reliable reports of allegations of corruption by CM

Abdul Taib Mahmud in Sarawak Report and the Global Witness videos.

Abasir: If it is possible, take him to the cleaners so that he will not defame anyone else again. Make an example of him.

‘Anwar has RM332mil stashed abroad, including Israel’

Haveagreatday: As Batu MP Tian Chua said, if it is true, the Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission (MACC) will have taken Anwar by the jugular.

But interestingly though, I wonder if Liang read anything about the millions stashed away by that ex-dictator who refuses to die as well as his cronies?

CiViC: Seriously, how brainless can these people be? Taib’s fortune are well proven and yet they keep mum, PM Najib Razak had been implicated in the cover-up of a murder, yet it is okay for them.

I don’t care how much money Anwar has, or how he got them, he is not the PM.

SS Dhaliwal: If this is true, then MACC should investigate to get to the bottom of it, if indeed the bank accounts belong to Anwar, and if so whether the money gained is through wise investments, personal donations or corruption.

However in order to be fair they should first investigate Taib, Sabah CM Musa Aman and former PM Dr Mahathir Mohamad, whose fortunes run in the billions and which is no secret.
