Mukhriz Mahathir has filed a suit against Tunku Aziz, who made the allegation that Pakatan Harapan had made a secret pact to make him prime minister. This was made in two statements, “There exists a secret pact between Tun Mahathir and Kit Siang – Tunku Aziz” and “Tunku Aziz urges Mukhriz, Kit Siang to make sworn declaration” published on a blog (aidcnews.wordpress.com).

I never pushed Mukhriz to be PM, says Dr Mahathir
KUALA LUMPUR: Dr Mahathir Mohamad told the High Court today that he had never pushed his son, Mukhriz, to follow in his footsteps and become prime minister.
In his witness statement tendered to the court today for Mukhriz’s defamation suit against former DAP vice-chairman Tunku Aziz Tunku Ibrahim, the former prime minister said if he had any such intention, he would have done it during his 22 years in office.
“Mukhriz was in his 30s when I was the prime minister. If I wanted to, I could have done whatever within my powers to boost his political career,” said Mahathir, who is the second witness for Mukhriz.
Mukhriz, who is PPBM deputy president, is suing Tunku Aziz over two press statements last year, in which the former DAP leader claimed there was a “secret pact” to push Mukhriz and DAP parliamentary leader Lim Kit Siang as prime minister and deputy prime minister respectively.
He is seeking damages as well as an apology from Tunku Aziz.
Mahathir added Mukhriz only joined Umno after he stepped down as the prime minister.
The PPBM chairman said he was very strict in discouraging his children from joining politics because he did not want to be accused of misusing his powers as prime minister.
“For Tunku Aziz to say I was involved in a secret pact with Mukhriz and Kit Siang, and to push them as prime minister and deputy prime minister, is false,” Mahathir said, referring to Tunku Aziz’s press statement on Dec 30, 2016.
Mahathir also told the court that he had never filed any lawsuit against individuals who made false allegations against him throughout his 22 years in office.
“I have a duty to prove to the people … by taking proper actions in leading the government of the day,” he said.
Mahathir added that although he is no longer in office, he did not wish to take legal action against Tunku Aziz over the latter’s alleged defamatory statements on the “secret pact”.
“I prefer to answer allegations thrown at me through my blog, in public speeches and at media conferences.
“To me, the public will hear and accept my explanation,” he said, adding he will hold on to his principle of not suing anyone.
“I am not like Najib (Razak),” he said, taking a swipe at his protege and current prime minister.
Najib has filed various defamation suits against opposition leaders, including Petaling Jaya Utara MP Tony Pua and Pandan MP Rafizi Ramli.

Tunku Aziz’s ‘secret pact’ claim has been disproven, Mukhriz tells court
BERSATU deputy president Mukhriz Mahathir said former DAP vice chairman Tunku Aziz Tunku Ibrahim’s allegation that Pakatan Harapan had made a secret pact to make him prime minister has been proven to be slander, Sinar Harian reported.
He said, in a witness statement at the Kuala Lumpur High Court yesterday in his defamation suit against Tunku Aziz, the allegation has been proven to be baseless, false and defamatory when PH named his father, Dr Mahathir Mohamad, as the coalition’s prime minister candidate and PKR president Dr Wan Azizah Wan Ismail his deputy during the PH convention on Sunday.
Mukhriz said it was not wrong for a politician to wish to become a leader, but it had to be through due process and not a “secret pact”, as alleged by Tunku Aziz.
“It is not a crime or sin for any politician that wants to provide pure and transparent leadership service to harbour such a wish as long as it is through legitimate means and genuinely for the society’s interest.
“I also harbour the wish to be a leader, but it must be through the right and transparent way and not through scams or fraud,” he said.
Mukhriz is seeking damages and an apology from Tunku Aziz.

Tunku Aziz fails to strike out Mukhriz’s ‘secret pact’ suit
Former DAP vice-chairperson Tunku Abdul Aziz Tunku Ibrahim today failed to strike out a defamation suit filed by former Kedah menteri besar Mukhriz Mahathir over an allegation of a secret pact between his father Dr Mahathir Mohamad and DAP stalwart Lim Kit Siang.
This came after Justice Nordin Hassan of the High Court in Kuala Lumpur made a ruling that a defamation suit should proceed to a full trial if the court deems the defendant’s claim had lowered and adversely affected the plaintiff, and can be considered defamatory.
“This evidence should be presented in a trial. There are serious issues to be tried,” he added.
Justice Nordin further ordered Tunku Aziz, who is also MACC advisory board chairperson, to pay RM4,000 in costs.
The judge then fixed Jan 11, 12, 18 and 19 next year for the hearing of the case.

Mukhriz sues Tunku Aziz for defamation over secret pact remarks
Former Kedah menteri besar Mukhriz Mahathir has filed a defamation suit against ex-DAP vice chairperson Tunku Abdul Aziz Tunku Ibrahim, over the latter’s allegation of a secret pact between his father Dr Mahathir Mohamad and DAP stalwart Lim Kit Siang.
The suit was filed on the former MB’s behalf at the Kuala Lumpur High Court registry, earlier today by the law firm of Haniff Khatri.
In his statement of claim, Mukhriz who is also Parti Pribumi Bersatu Malaysia (Bersatu) deputy president, said Tunku Aziz since December last year, had accused Mahathir of offering Lim the post of deputy prime minister, if Mukhriz was made PM in the event of an opposition win.
The allegation, Mukhriz claimed, meant that he was involved in the secret pact, that he was not sincere and transparent politically, that he had gone behind other opposition members’ back in making the deal to make himself PM and Lim, DPM.
The statements uttered by Tunku Abdullah, stated Mukhriz, also made him appear power hungry, had betrayed the trust of the voters and people by hiding the purported plot, that he does not have principles and morals, and that he is a politician who followed his father’s directions.
