#UPDATE: Fire at convenience store in Mid Valley Megamall, shoppers report of thick smoke
KUALA LUMPUR: A fire broke out at MidValley Megamall this evening, involving a convenience store at the lower ground floor at around 7pm.
There were no reports of casualties and mall goers were temporarily evacuated.
City Fire and Rescue Department spokesman said the fire was brought under control at 7.33pm.
He said the cause of fire still under investigation.
Bomba: Mall fire brought under control within 20 mins
KUALA LUMPUR: A fire at a popular mall here, which set off alarms and required the building to be evacuated here on Saturday, was brought under control within 20 minutes of authorities being alerted to it.
A Fire and Rescue Department spokesman said they received a call at around 7.10pm and managed to bring the fire under control at 7.30pm on Saturday.
He said the fire broke out at a convenience store located on the lower ground floor and its cause is still being investigated.
He added that no injuries were reported in the incident.
A man was seen earlier inside an ambulance wearing a breathing mask but the Department did not comment on his condition.
The scene of the fire was also cordoned off from the public as fire investigators determined the cause of the fire.
Eyewitnesses said they saw sparks coming from a fuse box, and this was followed by thick smoke that engulfed the floor.
Telecommunications sales executive Siti Aslina Basaruddin, 25, noticed thick smoke when she was on her way back to her workstation after visiting the washroom.
She said some shoppers were panicking as they made their way out of the building, while others tried to record the incident with their mobile phones.
Shoppers were seen making their way back into the mall at around 8.15pm.

A fire broke out at the Mid Valley Megamall at about 7pm today.
Social media users tweeted about having to evacuate the mall’s cinema, with many rushing to wait outside the building itself.Astro Awani reported the Fire Department as saying that the fire had been put out, and that there were no injuries.
This is the second fire to occur at the Mid Valley Megamall in the past five months.
On May 30, a fire broke out at a shop lot that was quickly extinguished, but caused panic on social media.

Fire forces thousands to evacuate Mid Valley mall
PETALING JAYA: Thousands of weekend shoppers were forced to evacuate the Mid Valley Megamall this evening after a fire broke out on the lower ground floor of the shopping centre.
The Fire and Rescue Department say the fire was brought under control in less than 20 minutes.
Some mall visitors uploaded images and video clips of shoppers rushing to leave the mall amid thick smoke and the deafening sounds of the fire alarm.
There is no confirmation of the source of the fire, but it is believed to have started from a food outlet located at the South Court section of the mall.
