If I’m wrong, arrest me, says Rafizi after naming PAS man

With the statutory declaration, any police report and subsequent charge will open the way for us to drag the 1MDB issue to court again, says Pandan MP Rafizi Ramli.

KUALA LUMPUR: Confident of his revelation that former PAS deputy president Nasharudin Mat Isa was a recipient of funds allegedly embezzled from 1MDB, PKR vice-president Rafizi Ramli today filed a statutory declaration (SD) over the matter.

With the SD, those who doubt him could lodge a police report, and he would be subjected to a variety of laws instead of just a civil suit, said the PKR vice-president.

“I made the SD about an hour ago. So if any of the things I said were false, a police report can be lodged and I can be arrested. That is why it is quite rare for anyone to make a SD.

“And I’m more than happy to go through the legal process because once it takes place, then we are in the position where we can drag the 1MDB issue to court again,” he told a press conference here earlier today.

The Pandan MP revealed that Nasharudin had received funds, allegedly from a former 1MDB subsidiary.

Rafizi alleged that the funds were originally channelled into Prime Minister Najib Razak’s personal account, and later, an undisclosed amount was transferred to Nasharudin.

The information, according to Rafizi, was revealed to him on Jan 28 this year, by a former Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission (MACC) senior officer who had led an investigation into 1MDB, and Najib’s alleged involvement in the scandal.

“That was the first time I had communicated with him (the senior officer),” Rafizi said.

“He told me how the MACC investigation also found an amount of money paid in the form of cheques from Najib’s personal account to Nasharudin.”

In the SD, which Rafizi later distributed to the media, he claimed that Najib had made some payments to a lawyer who was questioned by MACC.

The lawyer had allegedly assisted in the transfer of funds to some individuals, including Nasharudin, he said.

Rafizi also said that he would be lodging a report over the matter, to MACC, at 11am tomorrow.

Nik Abduh: PAS knows, but does not speak out if evidence is incomplete

PAS leaders know a lot of information too, but they don’t necessarily divulge it, its Youth chief Nik Abduh Nik Aziz said.

This, he said, is because the party has ethics.

“PAS leaders have a lot of information too. But they strive to practise good values, that when the evidence is not complete, then silence is the sheathed weapon, let (the secrets) reveal itself,” Nik Abduh said in a Facebook post.

He said this while admonishing PKR’s Pandan MP Rafizi Ramli’s penchant for digging up information.

This followed the release of a statutory declaration by Rafizi, in which he claimed that former PAS deputy president Nasharudin Mat Isa had received funds linked to a former 1MDB subsidiary, SRC International.

“It’s true what the PAS president (Abdul Hadi Awang) said, Pandan (Rafizi) doesn’t know sin and virtue.

“He likes to dig (up information) so much, that it has become a hobby. Even chicken excrement is said to be the chicken’s owner’s excrement,” added Nik Abduh, the Pasir Mas MP.

Rafizi names ex-MACC top brass as source in SRC funds SD

PKR vice-president Rafizi Ramli has claimed that a former Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission (MACC) top officer is his source with regard to an allegation which implicated an ex-PAS top leader.

“He (the source) was the most senior MACC officer heading investigations into 1MDB funds and Prime Minister Najib Abdul Razak’s involvement in the scandal.

“As such, he has detailed and legitimate information regarding the investigation,” the Pandan lawmaker said in a statutory declaration (SD), which he revealed to the media this afternoon.

According to Rafizi, he had met the former MACC officer on Jan 28 to inquire about how he was doing after retirement.

The two of them, he said, exchanged information as regular citizens.

Speaking to Malaysiakini later, Rafizi said he had released details about the whistleblower’s position as a graftbuster, with the latter’s consent.

“Yes, he was agreeable to me making the SD in this manner,” he added.

In his SD, Rafizi accused former PAS deputy president Nasharudin Mat Isa of receiving funds from SRC International, which is a former subsidiary of 1MDB.

He also alleged that the funds originated from Prime Minister Najib Abdul Razak’s personal account and were transferred to Nasharudin through a lawyer.

Nasharudin is the current chief executive of the Global Movement of Moderates, which is a brainchild of the Najib administration. He is also a member of the Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission (MACC) Consultation and Corruption Prevention Panel.

Malaysiakini has contacted Nasharudin for comment.
