Will Annuar Musa survive GE 14? His majority was 974 over the Pakatan Rakyat candidate. He needs all the 2% Chinese voters in the constituency. Now you know why he accepted the UEC for entrance to UniKL and visited Dong Zong.

First visit to Dong Zong to win Chinese votes, @AnnuarMusa jokes

Umno information chief Annuar Musa made his first appearance at United Chinese School Committees’ Association of Malaysia (Dong Zong) to have a better understanding on Chinese education and Unified Examination Certificate (UEC).
On a lighter note, he joked that the purpose of his visit was to gain votes from the Chinese community.
This came after Rural and Regional Development Minister Ismail Sabri Yaakob had said that Majlis Amanah Rakyat (Mara)-owned Universiti Kuala Lumpur (UniKL) does not acknowledge the UEC.
This contradicted Annuar who said UniKL recognises UEC because it is a private university. He said this when he was the Mara chairperson prior to his suspension.

MCA Youth, for political gain, has urged Selangor to withdraw Unisel’s recognition of the UEC amid claims that Harapan ally Parti Pribumi Bersatu Malaysia (Bersatu) president Muhyiddin Yassin said UEC should not be recognised.
Muhyiddin has since denied the claim, which he said was a misinterpretation of what he said.

Minister contradicts Mara chief on UniKL’s UEC recognition
Rural and Regional Development Minister Ismail Sabri Yaakob today said Majlis Amanah Rakyat (Mara)-owned Universiti Kuala Lumpur (UniKL) does not acknowlege the Unified Examination Certificate (UEC), Bernama reported.
This contradicted Mara chairperson Annuar Musa, who yesterday said UniKL recognises UEC because it is a private university.
“The Higher Education Ministry has allowed private universities to enroll students with UEC qualification since 2004, but this does not mean (universities owned by) Mara have to do so.
“We have a choice whether or not to enroll students and to date, we do not enroll those with that certificate,” Ismail Sabri told reporters at a Wanita Umno event in Bera today.
Mara is an entity under the purview of the Rural and Regional Development Ministry.

Harapan vows to recognise UEC if it wins GE14
Pakatan Harapan said it will recognise the United Examination Certificate (UEC) if it comes to power following the next general election.
The opposition coalition’s chief secretary Saifuddin Abdullah said this is consistent with its predecessor Pakatan Rakyat’s stand on the matter.
“That was why Universiti Selangor (Unisel), which is owned by the Selangor government and led by a PKR menteri besar, has already recognised UEC,” Saifuddin said at a DAP event in Bentong.
This comes after MCA Youth urged Selangor to withdraw Unisel’s recognition of the UEC amid claims that Harapan ally Parti Pribumi Bersatu Malaysia (Bersatu) president Muhyiddin Yassin said UEC should not be recognised.
Several English language dailies had reported that Muhyiddin warned that UEC will not be recognised if Pakatan Harapan takes over, citing an interview with the former Education Minister by Sin Chew Jit Poh.
Muhyiddin has since denied the claim, which he said was a misinterpretation of what he said.

fmtoday: Use UEC to study at UniKL, urges Mara chairman

Annuar Musa says these students from Chinese schools are of high calibre and can study locally at UniKL instead of going to countries like Taiwan.
KUALA LUMPUR: Majlis Amanah Rakyat (Mara) chairman Annuar Musa today clarified that the Unified Examinations Certificate (UEC) is recognised by Universiti Kuala Lumpur (UniKL) as an entry qualification to its university.
Although UniKL is under Mara, he said it is a private higher learning institution which has received approval from the higher education ministry to accept applications from UEC holders.
“Many overlooked this and thought UniKL is a public university because it is under Mara, when in fact it is a private institution of higher learning.
“I have checked UniKL policies and indeed we are allowed to accept graduates of UEC and other international certification such as O-levels,” he said to reporters after visiting the Permai Learning Center in Ampang.
As such, he encouraged UEC holders to apply for the various courses offered by UNIKL, including technical and vocational education training (TVET), which is the main focus of the university.
