Small and Medium Scale Entrepreneurs Alliance of Malaysia (Ikhlas) president Mohd Ridzuan Abdullah has warned of a bigger protest if the court does not make a fair ruling in the case of a lorry driver being assaulted.
“If the court makes an unfair decision, we will gather more than 1,000 lorry drivers and organise a massive protest,” he told reporters when met outside the Serdang district police headquarters.
Speaking to Malaysiakini later, Ridzuan said based on the court’s decision, the lorry drivers might also gather in front of the Attorney-General’s Chambers in Putrajaya.

Ikhlas: Cops to quiz driver who got beating under Peaceful Assembly Act
.

Police have summoned the lorry driver, who was assaulted by several men outside a condominium in Ampang on Jan 14, for questioning under the Peaceful Assembly Act (2012), said Small and Medium Scale Entrepreneurs Alliance of Malaysia (Ikhlas) president Mohd Ridzuan Abdullah.
Over the weekend, a group of lorry drivers had gathered in Sungai Besi to protest against the attack on Nasrul Faiz Zulfahmi, who was also present.
Ridzuan, who led the protest, told Malaysiakini that both Nasrul and him have been called in to the Serdang district police headquarters to have their statements recorded.
“I received the call (from the police) two days ago. We will record our statements tomorrow. The two of us and several others. This is in connection with Ikhlas’ protest last weekend,” he said.
When contacted, Serdang OCPD Megat Mohamad Aminuddin Megat Alias confirmed that both Ridzuan and Nasrul Faiz have been summoned for their statements to be recorded in connection with the protest.
Ridzuan said he led the protest in order to stand up for the 25-year-old lorry driver’s rights, and there was no political agenda.
“We just defended the people’s rights. We did not gather to overturn the government. Why do the police need to question us?

Lorry driver terrified of ‘big time gangsters’ who beat him
PETALING JAYA: The lorry driver who was beaten by a group of men in Ampang last weekend is terrified of his attackers after his employer told him they were like “big time gangsters” who had warned against reporting the matter to the authorities.
According to The Star Online, Nasrul Faiz Zulfahmi, 25, said, “Yes. My boss told me they are like ‘big-time’ gangsters.”
.
One week on, Nasrul is still traumatised by the incident and only decided to lodge a report after much persuasion from the police.
He said however that the threats issued by the attackers still played in his mind, making him continuously fear for his life and that of his family members.
He said this when speaking to reporters at a protest held yesterday by a group of truck drivers at the Sungai Besi toll plaza.
.
Nasrul also denied being rude to the man who attacked him.
He said the severe beating had left him with multiple bruises on his body and a deep gash on his neck that required 13 stitches.

Why security guards looked like statues during Ampang attack
Companies are hiring any “Tom, Dick and Harry” and not career guards, explains industry veteran.

PETALING JAYA: The inaction of the security guards who only watched as a lorry driver was brutally beaten up by a group of men in Ampang last week was disappointing but unsurprising, says a security industry veteran.
“Things would be very different if security companies in Malaysia hired career guards rather than any Tom, Dick and Harry to make up the numbers,” said Security Training and Development Association (Stadam) president Khirudin Tajudin.
Speaking to FMT, he said the guards’ inaction was a symptom of the problems faced by the security industry.
“This is an industry problem. Many security companies aren’t in it to provide a service but to make money.”
He said such security companies only wanted to supply guards because there is a demand for security guards but they weren’t really passionate or concerned about security.
“So they just recruit anyone who is looking for a job. But these guards may not have the right mental attributes to be a guard.”
“So when you have a situation like this, the guards would just look on rather than act. It is embarrassing for a guard to just be a bystander.”
Khirudin acknowledged that in the Ampang incident, the guards were outnumbered but said this was no reason to not try and break up the assault.
He said that security guards had a duty to maintain order at all times, adding that the attack on the lorry driver could have been worse and the victim could have lost his life.
Khirudin said this was why it was important for security companies to equip their guards with the necessary tools and training to help diffuse situations, especially when they are outnumbered.
He also said this was why it was important for guards to be trained and receive the minimum accreditation from both the human resources ministry and home ministry.

Trucker: Attack was unprovoked http://dlvr.it/N9bcMr
.
When he got out, he was approached by an unidentified man.
“I asked if the car belonged to him and he asked who owned the truck,” he told reporters during a protest, organised by fellow truck drivers, at Sungai Besi today.
Nasrul claimed that he and the man repeated their questions several times until the former relented and admitted to being the truck driver.
“Then he raised his hand and hit me. He pulled me like he was looking for a fight. I pulled back and wondered why he hit me,” Nasrul said.
To a question, Nasrul denied ever being rude to his assailant.
He does not know if anyone ordered the attack. He said all he could remember was being hit by one man and kicked by two others.

Settlement won’t work, we will get you, IGP tells assailants
SUBANG JAYA: Inspector-General of Police Khalid Abu Bakar has instructed Ampang police to make sure those who had attacked a lorry driver in Ampang will not get away scot-free, despite both parties agreeing to settle the matter.
The attack which happened last Saturday was captured on video and the clip was shared widely on social media and WhatsApp.
Khalid said although both the attackers and the victim had agreed to settle the matter among themselves, the police will not let them get away just like that because “the country has laws to protect the innocent from being victimised”.
“We have arrested an individual. I have instructed the Ampang police chief to track down the rest, arrest them, and throw them behind bars,” said Khalid in a press conference here.
“We can’t let things like this slide, as if our country is lawless, as if everyone is free to beat up others.
“We will not let this happen. So whatever solution they (the attackers and the victim) have agreed upon, we won’t accept it.”
He then told those involved in the attack to come forward and “surrender”, before the police go their their homes and drag them to the station.
“We know who they are,” he said.

Ampang attack: PBB man calls for tough action
.
PETALING JAYA: An official of Sarawak’s ruling party has urged the police to take severe action against the attackers of a lorry driver in last Saturday’s incident in Ampang.
Speaking to FMT, PBB supreme council member Abdul Karim Rahman Hamzah said the culprits must face the full brunt of the law even though the victim has agreed to settle the matter amicably.
“I’m sure many, like myself, want to see justice being done,” he said, adding that no one deserved such a “brutal beating” over a minor accident.
.
The incident occurred after the lorry backed into a Mercedez Benz said to belong to man with a “datuk” title.
“It doesn’t matter who these men work for; they don’t have the right to bash up any Malaysian,” said Karim, who is Sarawak’s assistant minister for housing. “Anyone who breaks the law must face justice regardless of his status.”

Lorry driver attacked for reversing into Mercedes Benz

AMPANG: A minor traffic incident saw a lorry driver being savagely attacked by a group of men at a condominium in Bukit Antarabangsa, Ulu Klang on Saturday.
The incident was captured on video and the footage has gone viral on social media.
The two-minute clip showed the lorry driver being attacked by a man in a green shirt before four others came and started to kick him on the face and body while he lay on the ground.
The incident occurred after a lorry driver backed into a Mercedez Benz belonging to a “Datuk”.
Ampang Jaya police chief Hamzah Alias said the 25-year-old victim and his partner were at the condominium to make a delivery at the mini market and had parked the lorry at the drop off area.
Some 20 minutes later, a Mercedes Benz drove up and parked behind the lorry.
Hamzah said the lorry driver after delivering the goods had reversed and accidentally hit the Mercedez Benz.
“An argument ensued between the lorry driver and the car driver which then escalated into a fight,” said Hamzah, adding that four unidentified men then came and started to assault the lorry driver.
A police report was lodged by the condominium security guard.
Hamzah said the suspects are being investigated for rioting.
“It was a mere misunderstanding. Both parties want to settle the matter among themselves but since the incident occurred in a public area, we have to step in and investigate the case,” Hamzah added.
