Jakim slams Azmin over Selena Gomez concert
We didn’t approve Selena Gomez concert, says Jakim after Selangor MB tries to deflect issue of allowing concert to be held in Shah Alam despite PAS protest.
Referring to Azmin’s comment that Jakim had also given the green light for the concert held in Shah Alam, Jakim director-general Othman Mustapha said it was not responsible for giving approval for concerts or other live shows.
“Allegations such as these can hurt the reputation and credibility of Jakim as an agency in charge of Islamic affairs in the country,” Othman said in a statement released today.
.
Othman said no one should make statements referring to Jakim before checking with them first.
“I seek the cooperation of parties to refer to us first before making any statements related to Jakim,” Othman said.

Azmin: Unfair to slam me over Selena Gomez
,
BUTTERWORTH: PKR deputy president Azmin Ali says he was unfairly criticised over American singer Selena Gomez’s concert last year.
“The state has got nothing to do with the concert as it was approved by the Department of Islamic Development Malaysia (Jakim),” said Azmin, who is Selangor Mentri Besar, in his speech on the last day of the Penang PKR convention in Seberang Jaya.
Azmin was referring to the comments of Shah Alam PAS Youth delegate Aubidullah Fahim Ibrahim, who said PKR did nothing to oppose the concert, which was held on July 25 last year in Shah Alam, a predominantly Muslim area.
During the PAS Youth muktamar in Alor Setar on Friday, Aubidullah cited it as one of the reasons why PAS Youth decided to cut ties with PKR. PAS had protested against the concert being held, claiming Gomez’s dressing was too sexy.
“I don’t even know who Selena Gomez was until I googled,” said Azmin.

PAS Youth cites Selena Gomez as reason to cut ties with PKR
.

MUKTAMAR | PAS Youth have cited a concert by US pop singer Selena Gomez, as one of the reasons why political ties with PKR must be severed.
Shah Alam PAS Youth delegate Aubidullah Fahim Ibrahim said this was an example of how PKR was not committed to strengthening Islam.
“PKR in Selangor, the menteri besar (Azmin Ali), are not committed enough to strengthen Islam.
“For example, how they were excited to hold the Selena Gomez concert, disregarding views from PAS, Muslims, and Muslim NGOs,” Aubidullah said at the PAS Youth muktamar in Kedah today.
Speaking in support of a motion to call for ties with PKR to be severed, the Selangor delegate said that commitment to strengthen Islam was among the conditions set for cooperation between PAS and PKR.
The motion was passed unanimously.

Selena Gomez: Bung ajak PAS ‘berfikiran terbuka’

Dapsy: Selena Gomez concert protest ‘cheap publicity stunt’
.
DAP’s youth wing slams PAS Youth for keeping silent until a week before concert, after organisers had spent so much, and after thousands of tickets were bought by fans.
PETALING JAYA: DAP’s youth wing says PAS Youth are using religion and the upcoming Selena Gomez concert next week for “cheap publicity.”
Questioning the timing of the statement yesterday against the staging of the concert at the Stadium Malawati in Shah Alam next Monday, DAP Socialist Youth (Dapsy) said PAS Youth is trying to inconvenience the organisers and fans of the American artiste.
“When the organisers sought permission for her to hold her concert here, PAS did not protest anything until the very last minute after thousands of ringgit was spent for promotional purposes,” Dapsy executive secretary Muhammad Shakir Ameer said in an official statement today.
“Isn’t this a cheap publicity stunt?”
This comes after PAS Youth declared that the former Disney TV star’s concert would “contaminate” the month of Syawal.

PAS Youth against ‘sexy’ Selena

PETALING JAYA: PAS Youth has voiced its disapproval of Selena Gomez’s The Revival Tour concert scheduled to be held at Stadium Melawati in Shah Alam on July 25.
The wing’s dakwah committee chairman Hafez Sabri claimed that the American singer’s sexy appearance would tarnish the sanctity of the month of Syawal, which is when Muslims celebrate Hari Raya.
He also expressed regret that the local authorities had given approval to the concert’s organisers to hold the event.
“The presence of the American-born singer, who is synonymous with sexy appearances, would tarnish the sanctity of the month of Syawal which is being celebrated in earnest and further stoke the hedonistic culture among the country’s youths,” he said in a statement on Monday.
Hafez called on the state Islamic religious council to issue an official letter prohibiting Gomez’s concert.
