MCA: Mob rule culture can drive investors away
PETALING JAYA: MCA has warned that street demonstrations and “mob rule culture” can drive investors away from Malaysia.
Referring to the protest in front of the DAP headquarters in Kuala Lumpur on Tuesday, MCA Religious Harmony Bureau secretary Chris Daniel Wong said the demonstration was uncalled for.
“It does not bode well as a testimony to our youth generation,” he said in a statement Thursday.
Wong said such action would only encourage young people to “take to the streets to resolve matters with their own bare hands, which is wrong entirely”.
“Since 2008 we have witnessed a series of wide-scale street protests in the name of economic equality, race and religion, and these do not seem to stop but are becoming a new norm of political mob culture in the country,” he said.
Wong said street demonstrations have sent the wrong message to Malaysians and the international investor community.

Umno Youth shoots back at MCA leader for IS remark
Umno Youth has shot back at an MCA leader for likening the protest at DAP headquarters to the terrorist group Islamic State (IS).
“Likening the actions of Umno Youth handing a memorandum to the DAP headquarters to the IS shows shallow thinking.
“MCA religious harmony bureau chief Ti Lian Ker should first investigate why the memorandum was sent,” said Federal Territory Umno Youth chief Mohd Razlan Muhammad Rafii in a statement today.
He argued the protest was a response to DAP’s “provocation”.
“The responsibility to maintain peace isn’t just that of one party; if there is no provocation from DAP, then the protest would not have taken place.

Ti: Red Shirts should not be allowed to run wild
MCA spokesman says people have the right to protest, but it has to be done within the confines of the law.

PETALING JAYA: Ti Lian Ker is urging authorities to take “swift and immediate” action against the Malay group which had protested outside the DAP headquarters in Kuala Lumpur yesterday.
The MCA spokesman said in a statement today that the Red Shirts group, which was led by Umno’s Mohd Ali Baharom (better known as Ali Tinju), are a threat to public order, peace and harmony.
“We cannot allow mob rule or a handful of people to take the law into their own hands causing public disorder. There should be zero tolerance,” Ti, who is also MCA Religious Harmony Bureau chairman, said.
He was commenting on the protest by the Red Shirts against a Facebook post allegedly made by DAP’s Taiping MP Nga Kor Ming.

Yesterday’s protest also saw several racial slurs aimed at the Chinese community.
Ti said while Umno or other groups had every right to protest Nga’s alleged post, it had to be done within the confines of the law.
“The Red Shirts should not be allowed to run wild and disregard law and order.
There’s no justification to react on any individual statements or actions by disrupting public order or attempting to create unrest,” he added.
Those who took part in yesterday’s protest, Ti said, should also bear in mind that their actions could in the long run paint a negative image of the ruling coalition.
