Cop tweets racial slur about Indian community
PETALING JAYA: A screen shot of a police officer’s racially offensive tweet has been circulating on WhatsApp and other social media services. The officer in question used the racial slur “keling” which is considered derogatory towards the Indian community.
The officer concerned has the twitter handle @Konstamir90 and goes by the screen name AMIR.
Amir, who appears in police uniform in several other pictures using the same profile, tweeted, “Alaa keling tak payah laa campor” (Alaa, there is no need for keling/Indians to interfere) in a response to another user, Harvinth Kesu @harvinthskin who had earlier commented on the Low Yat Plaza race riot over the weekend.
Harvinth, who appeared to be Indian had tweeted, “Stop equating the Low Yat incident to Malays vs Chinese. Nothing to do with race. Just idiots & you’re an idiot if you can’t see that.”
Netizens, offended by Amir’s response took to the micro-blogging site to make their displeasure known.
One user, with the twitter handle @iambainz said, “you call yourself an officer? Hahahaha, it’s people like you who cause all this kinda issues,” while another user @SharwinRaj95 said, “Dude do you even understand the gist of what he is getting at?”
