Among those who can’t stand him, and they are legion on Twitter, he is seen as an apple polisher, that is, one who attempts to curry favor with authority for personal gain.

Gerakan Youth chief ropes in sodomy to defend PM
Gerakan Youth chief @tankengliang ropes in @anwaribrahim sodomy to defend PM @NajibRazak http://www.malaysiakini.com/news/304490

The outspoken Gerakan Youth chief has been firing a slew of tweets to defend his boss, Prime Minister Najib Abdul Razak.
And Tan Keng Liang also roped in Anwar Ibrahim and the latter’s sodomy conviction to drive home his point.
Calling on the public not to jump to conclusions over The Wall Street Journal report, he tweeted: “Even in Anwar’s case, people waited for the outcome of the investigation, trial and appeal before making a conclusion whether he sodomised (Mohd) Saiful (Bukhari Azlan) or not.”
“Remember Anwar’s case when they say he didn’t sodomise Saiful, but ended up wrong when he was convicted on evidence?” he said.
…
Tan also noted that the WSJ report had damaged Malaysia’s reputation.
“If proven untrue, how are they (WSJ) going to compensate Malaysians for damages suffered?” he asked.
The Gerakan leader also responded in a sarcastic manner when one tweeter user described Anwar as being “God-sent”.
“Just had my lunch … Please don’t make me vomit, vomit again, sigh,” said Tan.
In an earlier tweet, in which he tagged PKR vice-president Rafizi Ramli, he said: “Just curious… What about those who are associated with Anwar? Does it mean they also have the same tendency?”
