Chong Jing Jing, an administrator in an Ipoh music school had driven from her home in Perak, Malaysia, to Singapore, even though the passport she carried was invalid.
She walked free yesterday after District Judge Liew Thiam Leng backdated her sentence to July 2, when she first entered remand.
As she was led out of court by officers, she sobbed repeatedly: “Thank you, Your Honour! Thank you for letting me go!”

Her passport had expired, so she drove straight through immigration without stopping. When ordered by officers to get out of her car, she pretended to be asleep.
Malaysian national Chong Jing Jing, who breached Woodlands immigration checkpoint on June 30, was sentenced to four weeks’ jail yesterday.
The 34-year-old administrator in an Ipoh music school had driven from her home in Perak, Malaysia, to Singapore, even though the passport she carried was invalid.
Instead of stopping at the immigration counter, she tailgated the vehicle in front of her and drove through the barrier.
The officer manning the counter activated the alarm system at once, bringing traffic at the checkpoint to a halt.
Immigration officers went after Chong, finally locating her Malaysia-registered pink Perodua Axia in the arrival section.

Two arrested in 26 hours for failing to stop at Woodlands Checkpoint immigration clearance http://tdy.sg/1g4XWmH

SINGAPORE — Two people were arrested over two consecutive days at the Woodlands Checkpoint for failing to stop for immigration clearance, in separate incidents.
Earlier this morning (June 30) at 5.10am, a Malaysian-registered car was found to be tailgating a car in front. Officers from the Immigration and Checkpoints Authority (ICA) intercepted the car at the Arrival Car Zone, which was locked down.
The officers had requested the driver, a 34-year-old female Malaysian, to turn off the car engine and step out of the vehicle, but she did not comply with instructions. They had to break the car’s front and rear passenger windows to escort the driver out.
…
The other incident happened at around 3.50am yesterday, where a 41-year-old Singapore permanent resident drove past the immigration counter and failed to stop the Singapore-registered car for clearance.
Investigations against the two are ongoing. The ICA had said in a news release today that “any persons who failed to stop for immigration clearance will be dealt with firmly according to the law”.

Border officers smash vehicle’s windows and arrest woman after she tries to breach Woodlands Checkpoint
A woman who tailgated a car in front of her to breach the Woodlands Checkpoint was arrested on Mon (Jun 29) – after border officers smashed her vehicle’s windows to get her out.
The Malaysian woman, 34, was found to have been trying to travel with expired travel documents.
She had driven her Malaysia-registered pink Perodua Axia past immigration clearance at about 5.10am without stopping.
An officer activated the alarm and the Arrival Car Zone within the checkpoint was immediately locked down, reports The Straits Times.
“When the officers requested the driver to switch off the engine and to unlock the vehicle, the driver refused to comply. Officers had to break both the front and rear passenger windows to escort the driver out of the vehicle.”
Yesterday’s incident came just a day after a 41-year-old Malaysian man was arrested at the same checkpoint.
The Singapore permanent resident had driven a Singapore-registered dark grey Mercedes Kompressor past the immigration counter without stopping at about 3.50am on Monday. The alarm was raised and the Arrival Car Zone locked down.
“The car was found at the Arrival Car Zone within the checkpoint and the driver was placed under immediate arrest,” the ICA said.
