Hunt for press secretary who leaked DPM video |

Questions have been raised as to whether a press secretary to a minister was the one responsible for ‘leaking’ to a blogger the video of Deputy Prime Minister Muhyiddin Yassin speaking frankly on 1Malaysia Development Bhd (1MDB) at a closed-door Umno function.

Pro-Barisan Nasional website MyKMU.net said there had been talk that the video clip was given by the minister’s press secretary to former New Straits Times editor Firdaus Abdullah.

Firdaus, who is known for his attacks against Prime Minister Najib Abdul Razak as of late, had then uploaded the video onto his blog apanama.my.

MyKMU claimed the press secretary in question was often seen to be close to the blogger and his group.

It also said the clip was not given out by Home Minister Ahmad Zahid Hamidi’s press secretary Fadzlette Othman Merican.

“Action will be taken. It will be brought to the party’s management board,” Zahid said.

Damage done, no forgiveness, says Zahid over Muhyiddin video leak

by nicholas cheng

KAJANG: An Umno deputy division chief has apologised to the party for recording the “bashing” speech by Tan Sri Muhyiddin Yassin over 1Malaysia Development Berhad (1MDB).

But Umno vice-president Datuk Seri Dr Ahmad Zahid Hamidi is having none of it.

“I have contacted him personally. He has said sorry. And I told him, there will be no forgiveness for you. The damage is done.

“He has to shoulder the consequences,” the Home Minister told reporters during the Ministry’s Family Day celebration in Kajang Prison on Sunday.

Zahid said the Umno man had recorded the video during a closed-door training centre in Janda Baik last week.

He added that the man had circulated it on a social media group for the party’s national division deputy chiefs in the Telegram app.

“He also shared the video with the board members of his local party division.

M’sia DPM Muhyiddin Yassin’s viral outburst over debt-laden 1MDB divides UMNO

May 23, 2015

KUALA LUMPUR — An outburst by Deputy Prime Minister Muhyiddin Yassin that the government must sack the entire board of debt-laden 1Malaysia Development Bhd (1MDB) or risk being booted out by voters has drawn divided views from the United Malays National Organisation (UMNO), with some senior figures saying that he has undermined Prime Minister Najib Razak while others pointed out that he was just voicing a personal opinion.

A video of Mr Muhyiddin saying during a closed-door UMNO event last week that the government should sack the entire board of 1MDB or face being booted from power was uploaded on social media and after it went viral, former Information Minister Zainuddin Maidin urged the party to call for an emergency meeting to discuss the episode and decide if Mr Muhyiddin should face action for his remarks.

Mr Zainuddin claimed that Mr Muhyiddin’s remarks had undermined Mr Najib’s leadership and proved that “UMNO is not united to face Dr Mahathir’s attacks, 1MDB and the current political and economic crisis”.

Yesterday, a video of Muhyiddin saying the government should sack the entire board of debt-laden 1MDB or face being booted from power that was uploaded on a blog called APANAMA, earned headlines in the media just as Prme Minister Datuk Seri Najib Razak was due to table the 11th Malaysia Plan in Parliament.

“What do you do? Buang lah (remove lah). The CEO, buang. And not just remove, call the police to investigate, take action.

“The the rakyat will see, ‘haa, now the government leadership is taking responsibility, taking serious action’,” the deputy prime minister was heard saying in the seven minute and four second clip.

Zahid orders probe on maker of DPM’s ‘sack 1MDB’ video

KUALA LUMPUR, May 22 ― Umno vice-president Datuk Seri Ahmad Zahid Hamidi has ordered an investigation on the person responsible for recording Tan Sri Muhyiddin Yassin’s “sack 1MDB” speech last week.

According to two Umno-linked websites mykmu.net and suara.tv, Ahmad Zahid wants a probe on both the video maker and those responsible for spreading the controversial clip, which was picked up yesterday by the media.

Mykmu.net published a message from Ahmad Zahid purportedly sent via WhatsApp that said the video maker, a deputy division leader was not supposed to attend the closed door training event under the party’s Keris 2314 programme that was held in Janda Baik.

Muhyiddin, he explained, had attended the event in his capacity as the Pagoh Umno division chief.

“As the chairman of the Umno training bureau, I have ordered an investigation to identify the source of the recording and its spread.

“I have urged the (Umno) secretariat to take immediate action because this has tarnished the image of Keris 2314, which is meant to foster and strengthen unity at all levels,” he reportedly said, according to the website.

Zaid ‘congratulates’ Muhyiddin over call to sack 1MDB board

PETALING JAYA: Former minister Zaid Ibrahim has “congratulated” Deputy Prime Minister Tan Sri Muhyiddin Yassin’s over his call for 1Malaysia Development Bhd (1MDB) board of directors to be sacked.

“Congratulations Muhyiddin for speaking out,” tweeted Zaid on Wednesday.

The former minister however went on to question whether the call was realistic.

“DPM wants PM to sack 1MDB Board. Is that realistic? Did Najib appoint them or was it someone else,” he asked.

Zaid was commenting on a viral video of Muhyiddin lambasting the staggering debts accumulated by 1MDB at a closed-door meeting.

Muhyiddin reiterated his stance on sacking the 1MDB board members at Parliament on Thursday.

When reporters asked if the Prime Minister had responded to his calls, Muhyiddin shrugged and flashed a grin.

“Nothing. I was just making a statement,” he said.

Sack 1MDB board, Muhyiddin advises PM

Putrajaya must sack the 1Malaysia Development Bhd board for the RM42 billion debt scandal or it will bring down the government, Tan Sri Muhyiddin Yassin told an Umno gathering last week in a video clip available on YouTube.

The deputy prime minister said this was his advice to Prime Minister Datuk Seri Najib Razak, adding he was not against the Umno president’s leadership.

“The entire 1MDB board should be sacked and the police should be called in to investigate their involvement in the scandal,” Muhyiddin told the Umno gathering to wide applause.

“I told the PM, sack the 1MDB board. If I owned the company, and the CEO racked up so much of debt, that I had to pay interest between RM100 and RM200 million every month, what else to do? Just sack,” he told the crowd, with Home Minister Datuk Seri Ahmad Zahid Hamidi in attendance.

He said he decided to take the “bull by its horns” when it came to the 1MDB controversy, after the company racked up a RM42 billion debt.

“I don’t run away from the bull. I take it by its horns.”

“There are rumours saying that there are some manoeuvring (to remove the PM), but that is not true.”
