Singapore: Why did the police handcuff these kids?

THE POLICE EXPLAIN: THEY WERE TRYING TO ESCAPE, SO THEY HAD TO BE HANDCUFFED.

Police note the feedback received on the incident at East Coast Road.

Police received a call on 27 December 2014 at about 8.09am requesting for assistance at a building along East Coast Road. Upon Police’s arrival, it was established that a case of Theft from Person had occurred at the said location. Three male subjects were arrested in relation to the case. The subjects were handcuffed for their own safety and the safety of others as they had attempted to escape before Police arrived. Police investigations are ongoing.

SINGAPORE — The three boys arrested outside 112 Katong mall this morning (Dec 27) “were handcuffed for the safety of them and others”, said a police statement today.

SINGAPORE – Three juveniles aged between 9 and 12 years old have been arrested by the police for theft on Saturday morning.

A police spokesman told AsiaOne that they received a call requesting assistance along East Coast Road at 8.09am. The police later established that a case of theft had occurred.

The suspects were later handcuffed by the police for their safety and the public’s, as “they had attempted to escape before the police arrival”, the spokesman added.

“Three male subjects were arrested in relation to the case.

“The subjects were handcuffed for the safety of them and others as they had attempted to escape before police arrival.

“Police investigations are ongoing.”

What happened? Kids handcuffed and escorted away by police officers at East Coast Rd

Stomper R was shocked to see a facebook post of a picture showing a few kids being handcuffed and led away by police officers.

The photo was posted by a facebook user Shan, who saw the incident happen at about 10am today (Dec 27) near the traffic junction next to 112 Katong Mall at East Coast Road.

It is unclear what happened before this sight, but Shan mentioned in the post that the boys were led away to a nearby police station.
