Penang Gerakan Youth lodges report over Zairil and Dyana’s ‘intimate’ photos

GEORGE TOWN: Penang Gerakan Youth has lodged a police report over the circulation of alleged intimate photos of two DAP politicians.

Its legal and public complaints bureau chief Jason Loo said the party condemned the circulation of the photos of Bukit Bendera MP Zairil Khir Johari and Teluk Intan by-election candidate Dyana Sofya Mohd Daud, which had the possibility of being doctored.

“I’m very disappointed with the irresponsible circulation of the photos and the unproven rumours spread.

“I urge the police and the MCMC (Malaysian Communications and Multimedia Commission) to take immediate action to probe the allegations and bring those responsible to book,” he told reporters after lodging the report at the district police headquarters in Patani Road on Monday.

The mother of DAP’s Teluk Intan by-election candidate, Dyana Sofya Mohd Daud, has denied that her daughter is in a relationship with Bukit Bendera MP Zairil Khir Johari, a report said today.

“That’s not Dyana. Dyana and Zairil are not even a couple,” Yammy Samat told Sinar Harian, after photos of the two allegedly in intimate poses went viral online yesterday.

Describing the spread of the photos as slanderous, Yammy said she believed those responsible for them were trying to tarnish her daughter’s image for joining DAP.

She said the move could also be a ploy to distract people from the larger issues happening in the country.

“If people can do the same thing to (Datuk Seri) Anwar Ibrahim and (Mohamed) Azmin Ali, what more to Dyana. This is not something new, the same thing also happened in Teluk Intan.

“Logically, as a respected MP, would Zairil be doing something that could ruin his image?” she asked, adding that those who were behind the spread of the photos could have run out of ideas in order to have stooped to such a level.

OCTOBER 20 — It is an interesting exercise to browse through the many comments on my Facebook fan page. Reading through them recently, I began to notice a pattern. Generally, there are three types of comments: positive, negative and commiserative.

The positive comments mostly take the form of motivating words of encouragement. These are my favourite, and I am eternally grateful for the constant show of support from Malaysians of all walks of life. They have never failed to fuel me with positive energy or pick me up when I feel down.

As for the negative comments, they are as colourful as one would expect them to be. From the usual name-calling, gender stereotyping to all kinds of discriminating attacks, I have learned to accept them as part and parcel of public life. In fact, I sometimes find it entertaining, as it takes a special breed of people to be able to be so shallow and perverse.

However, there is one more type of comment that has become a constant feature in almost every thread. I find these quite puzzling. Somehow, there seems to be quite a few people out there who find it necessary to convey their pity or sympathy because they feel I am being “used.” Often, they would also predict that I would one day “wake up” and realise that I am in the wrong struggle, and that I would eventually “return” to the true path.

While I thank them for their “concern”, I would also like to express my own concern about the patronising culture of our society. Why is it so difficult for people to understand that we young Malay women are able to think for ourselves and have the capability (and yes, the right) to decide what we want to do and how we want to do it?

Bukit Bendera MP, Zairil Khir Johari has denied today that it was him featured in the photos which was widely circulated recently showing two people resembling him and DAP’s Dyana Sofya in an intimate manner.

According to a report inSinar Online, Zairil had also mulled about the possibility of taking legal action against the people who created the controversy.

IT INVOLVES THE DAP, OPPOSITION POLITICS AND THE FUTURE OF MALAYS IN A PREDOMINANTLY CHINSESE (SOME SAY, ‘CHAUVINISTIC’) POLITICAL PARTY.

PETALING JAYA: Intimate photos of an Opposition MP and a political neophyte kissing each other passionately have surfaced on social media.

The photos, seemingly uploaded from the parliamentarian’s personal Facebook account, surfaced early Sunday and quickly went viral.

The two are seen locking lips in both indoor and outdoor locations, including the interior of a car and a sunny park setting, with displays of affection including pecks on her cheek.

The woman is also shown pouting alone in one sepia-tone picture, and smooching the MP’s cheek and forehead in others.

Zairil Khir, Dyana on passionate photos: ‘It’s gutter politics’

PETALING JAYA: Bukit Bendera MP Zairil Khir Johari has termed the recent circulation of photos allegedly showing him and DAP’s Dyana Sofya kissing each other to be “gutter politics at its lowest”.

Though the photos were seemingly uploaded on what appeared to be a Facebook account with his profile picture, the 32-year-old Opposition MP did not respond as to whether the social media account was fake, or if it was the job of a rogue hacker that infiltrated his personal account.

“Would rather not dignify the issue further,” added Zairil.

When contacted, Dyana said she found it “disgusting” how gutter politics are constantly used against the Opposition.

“Being a woman, I’m an easy target. I’m angry,” she said.
