Kalighat, the Home of the Pure Heart (Nirmal Hriday) (formerly Mother Theresa’s Kalighat Home for the Dying Destitutes ) is a hospice for the sick, destitute and the dying established by Mother Teresa in Kalighat, Kolkata, India.
You may die destitute but, at least, die with dignity in Kalighat!

FOR PEOPLE WHO HAVE THE COMFORT OF THEIR OWN HOME, DYING IS HARD ENOUGH BUT, AT LEAST, WE MAY DIE AT HOME OR ON A HOSPITAL BED.
Hopefully, we may die with some dignity.
TO DIE ON THE STREET! That’s a terrible thought, isn’t it? That was exactly the fate of numerous women and men in Kolkata (Calcutta) until Mother Teresa opened her home. There, you could at least die clean and as a human being, not like a homeless dog out on the street.

Ipoh, Malaysia No place to die in!
A man was too poor to buy a house, so he rented a room. When he was diagnosed with terminal cancer, the landlord chased him out. The man had nowhere to go and begged for time.
When he was out at the hospital, the landlord dumped all the man’s belongings on the road, and changed the locks of the doors.
The man could not find another room to rent. Nobody wanted a dying man! “When you died here, you would dirty my place!” the owner of a house would say when turning him away. Death is dirty in more senses than one. Nobody wanted him to die in their place in case his spirit refused to leave but haunted it!
His classmate heard about. Being single himself, and owning a house, he brought the dying man to his own home to live out his remaining days.
A place to die in, with dignity. That’s an elusive goal for many.
