The Malaysia Wine Fiesta will be held on November 1 and 2 at restaurant Ben’s in the Publika shopping centre in the national capital.
It is organised by wine distributor Straits Wine Company Sdn Bhd, and is supported by food and drinks operator The Big Group and its outlets Ben’s and Beast, in addition to Vintec, a company supplying wine cabinets and cellars.
On its poster, the event promises that participants can taste over 100 varieties of wines, attend over 10 wine masterclasses, and meet over 20 wineries.

KUALA LUMPUR, Oct 8 ― After kickstarting a campaign to can the annual Oktoberfest beer festival here, a Muslim group is today trying to do the same to the privately-held Malaysia Wine Fiesta 2014.
The group, which calls itself Rakyat Malaysia Tolak Konsert Liar ― or “Malaysians Against Wild Concerts” in Malay ― on its Facebook page, hit out at the organisers of the wine festival after one of its Muslim Facebook administrators received an email invitation to the event.
“You always argue that these events are only for non-Muslims, but their promotions are overboard,” the Muslim group complained on its Facebook page, which now has over 4,000 likes.
The group also posted a list of entertainment events that it describes as “wild” and condemns them daily.
“Not only does it say ‘Malaysia’, but also ‘biggest’, and it is held ‘outdoors’ too,” the group said of the wine event’s tagline, “Malaysia’s biggest outdoor wine fair”.
However, an advertisement on the wine fest made it clear the event was restricted. Participants are required to shell out RM83 for a one-day pass as a condition for entry.

From 31 October – 2 November, Malaysia’s premier wine event will once again bring together wine lovers of all stripes and budgets with three fun-packed days of tastings and special activities.
Since it was started in 2011 by The Straits Wine Company, the annual event has been a key reason for wine appreciation taking off all over South-east Asia in a big way in the last few years.
Ms Kathy Lim-Sheehy, the CEO of The Straits Wine Company, says: “The aim of the Wine Fiesta is simple: To offer a one-stop shopping, tasting and educational experience for everyone who loves wine – from the newbie to the connoisseur. There is something here for every palate and budget. We want to make wine accessible and fun for all.’’
This year, the outdoor event, which is open to the public, trade and press, aims to welcome over 1,000 visitors and over 20 visiting winemakers from every region of the globe. Some 150 wines from Australia, Germany, Austria, Chile, Argentina, New Zealand, Italy, Spain, and France will be available for tasting and also for sale, at special prices.
To top off the experience, Malaysia Wine Fiesta 2014 will be set this year at the modern interpretation of East-meets-West restaurant, Ben’s in Publika. At this prime location, visitors can kick back and enjoy some choice tipples with the unique décor; from a breezy marine penthouse to a sophisticated Manhattan townhouse, a Savannah plantation, an understated Australian house and a 1900s colonial-style interior.
Kuala Lumpur’s latest go-to restaurant has hopped onto the Fiesta bandwagon. On 31 October, BEAST, located in the heart of the breathtaking city of Kuala Lumpur, will host the first round of tasting, featuring thoughtfully crafted pairings with the restaurant’s in-house specialties.
