FUNLAND, the interactive bouncy house with oversized breasts + erotic fairground has opened up at the Museum of Sex in New York City. We take a look at the adult exploration of sexual themes in Carnival celebrations and marvel at the exhibit in this Lip News clip with Mark Sovel and Lissette Padilla.

‘Funland’ at Museum of Sex Imitates a Carnival Visit

Should this review begin with a warning that it deals with the conventionally unmentionable? Or that it refers to images here unprintable?

Maybe it’s enough to know that it deals with a new exhibition at the Museum of Sex (known as MoSex) that opened this week: a show that you come upon just after visiting a gallery devoted to the adventures of Linda Lovelace.

This show — the museum’s commission from the London-based Conceptual artists Sam Bombas and Harry Parr, whose firm stages events and parties — is lighted like a bordello, has wall panels like an exhibition, is clouded with mist like a 1960s happening and offers immersive environments like an amusement park. And though it encloses just 2,000 square feet, with five “attractions,” there is no body part commonly thought private that is not here publicly grasped, modeled or bounced against, with a mixture of vulgarity, playfulness, inventiveness, crudity, childishness and mischievous provocation.

This kooky installation by London-based artistic duo Bompas & Parr proves sex and carnivals aren’t as different as you might have thought. From “Jump for Joy,” a bounce house made of giant, oversize breasts, to “The Tunnel of Love,” a mirrored labyrinth that takes patrons on a fantastical journey to the Gräfenberg (or “G”) Spot, this exhibit is nothing short of an educational sexcapade. Hear the circusesque sounds of composer Dom James, who specializes in creating atmospheric music for strange spaces, and indulge in Bompas & Parr’s sex-themed, edible treats.
