PAS dares Barisan to call for assembly meet to prove it has majority

Despite the resolution of the political turmoil in Terengganu, PAS is insistent that a special state legislative assembly meeting be held for the Barisan Nasional to prove its majority.

Terengganu PAS commissioner Satiful Bahri Mamat said the special meeting should be held so new Menteri Besar Datuk Ahmad Razif Abdul Rahman could prove that Barisan Nasional had the numbers to form the government.

“By holding the special state legislative session, we will be able to ascertain their position and support, and this will determine BN’s majority position,” Satiful Bahri told Harakahdaily today.

However, following backroom manoeuvering by the Umno leadership, Ahmad Said and the two assemblymen who left with him –  Bukit Besi assemblyman Roslee Daud and Ajil assemblyman Ghazali Taib – have returned to Umno.

Satiful told Harakahdaily that the crisis which had unfolded in Terengganu showed that Umno and Barisan Nasional were not only weak but divided as well.

“This is an internal BN crisis, the appointment of the Menteri Besar shows splits within BN, especially Umno,” he said.

Reveal ‘money politics’ in Terengganu, urges Bersih

Electoral watchdog Bersih 2.0 has urged anyone who has information of bribery for political affliation in the two-day Terengganu political debacle to blow the whistle.In a statement, it said that this is as the “speedy resolution” to the momentarily hung state legislative assembly gave rise to suspicion of underhanded tactics.“The whole affair stinks of not only dirty politics but also party politics taking precedence over governance…“Bersih 2.0 urges anyone who knows of any attempt to buy or sell political affliation with monetary gain – especially using public funds or other concessions – to blow the whistle, as corruption of such order will definitely destroy the country,” it said.Bersih was referring to the resignation of three Terengganu BN assemblypersons from Umno, resulting in a minority government in the east coast state.

It was resolved within 48 hours, with Bukit Besi representative Roslee Daud recanting his resignation from Umno 12 hours after announcing it.The other two, former MB and Kijal assemblyperson Ahmad Said (right in photo) and Ajil assemblyperson Ghazali Taib are expected to retract their quit letters later today.

‘Shock’ over MB swap made Roslee quit Umno

Bukit Besi assemblyperson Roslee Daud may have set the record for the shortest period served as an Independent assemblyperson after “shock” prompted him to leave Umno in a huff yesterday.Roslee earned the dubious credit when he apparently came to his senses and returned to the party about 12 hours after announcing his resignation.Speaking to reporters after meeting Prime Minister Najib Abdul Razak in Putrajaya today, he said the sudden change of menteri besar in Terengganu left him shocked.”However, when I thought about it, I decided to return and continue supporting Umno and BN.

“It was my own decision. I was not influenced by others,” Roslee said.He stressed that he was also not influenced by former MB Ahmad Said.

KUALA TERENGGANU: The constitutional crisis in Terengganu may have been averted after one of the three Barisan Nasional assemblymen who quit Umno retracted his resignation while another is close to being persuaded to return following intervention by top party leaders.

At press time, Bukit Besi assemblyman Roslee Daud is back in the fold and Ajil assemblyman Ghazali Taib was close to returning to Umno. Umno supreme council member Datuk Seri Shahidan Kassim confirmed Roslee had retracted his resignation.

State executive councillor for Tourism and Culture Datuk Mohd Jidin Shafee, who is Permaisuri assemblyman, said Roslee had done so after being advised by his Umno colleagues.

However, former Mentri Besar Datuk Seri Ahmad Said, who ignited the crisis by refusing to go quietly, was still holding out.

It is understood that Commu­nications and Multimedia Minister Datuk Seri Ahmad Shabery Cheek played a key role in the negotiations with Ahmad.

Both are from the Kemaman Umno division, of which Ahmad is chairman and Shabery the deputy.

Bukit Besi state rep withdraws Umno resignation

Bukit Besi assemblyperson Roslee Daud has withdrawn his resignation letter from Umno.According to Bernama, the matter was announced by Terengganu executive councillor Mohd Jidin Shafee.”(Roslee) is back to being a BN assemblyperson,” Bernama reported tonight.The news comes after Malaysiakini reported that Roslee was likely to retract his letter after heated talks among Terengganu Umno assemblyperson.This means the state assembly is hung at 15 BN, 15 Pakatan Rakyat and two independents.
