Updated: Wed, 23 Apr 2014 06:30:00 GMT | By The Malaysian Insider : Malaysia Education Ministry says no to use of school hall for Karpal’s memorial service.

The organisers for Karpal Singh’s memorial service, DAP, said today the Education Ministry has denied it the use of SJKC Chung Kwo hall in Jalan Loke Yew on the grounds that it was a political event.

The organisers for Karpal Singh’s memorial service, DAP, said today the Education Ministry has denied it the use of SJKC Chung Kwo hall in Jalan Loke Yew on the grounds that it was a political event. The Bukit Gelugor MP and veteran lawyer died in a car crash last Thursday.

Acting DAP chairman Tan Kok Wai said at a press conference that prior to this, the party had always used the school hall for various programmes, but was informed by the school authorities today that the ministry had rejected the application.

“We submitted the request on Monday, but at 9am today, it was rejected,” Tan told reporters at the DAP headquarters in Kuala Lumpur today.

The party had often used the hall for its fund-raising activities and had also raised funds for the construction of the school hall.

Tan, however, did not blame the school authorities as they had to abide by the ministry’s orders.

Instead, he said that this appeared to be a political agenda by the Barisan Nasional government.
