Ever since she began shooting commercials at the age of 15, Chinese Malaysian model Sheena Liam has felt the industry’s pressures to go under the plastic surgeon’s knife, she says.

“The industry in Malaysia tends to prefer the Caucasian or Pan-Asian look. I’ve been pressured to get plastic surgery done to look, you know, more beautiful.

“A lot of people get things done, bigger eyes, higher nose bridges. It was never my goal to be more beautiful. It’s my goal to be more myself.”

Sticking to her guns has paid off for the 1.73m-tall lass – she has just won the second season of the reality TV competition, Asia’s Next Top Model, and will get a shot at treading the international catwalks and grace magazine covers – with her own natural- born looks, of course.

“If I were to be famous for being a model, I would want people to like me for the way I look,” says Liam, 22.

KUALA LUMPUR: The just-concluded beauty search show Asia’s Next Top Model (AsNTM), which named Malaysian model Sheena Liam (pic) as the winner, brought out the ugly side of the Internet with unhappy netizens lashing out at the results.

Fans of the show immediately took to social media to air their reactions, some in support of Liam and others stating their disappointment at the results.

Some comments went as far as to blame her win on unrelated issues, like the missing Malaysia Airlines MH370 flight, and insulted the winner and the organisers.

“Just because it’s a ‘Visit Malaysia Year’ doesn’t mean you have to choose your representative to be the winner? This show won’t go any further! Judge’s deliberation sucks!” Patrick Angeles lamented on Facebook.

“Congratulations to Sheena Liam for bagging #AsNTM2Finale despite having bleached hair and an ugly horselike face,” posted a sarcastic fan with the Twitter handle @heyoKINIKIT.

Liam, speaking on the backlash during an interview with R.AGE, the youth platform of The Star, confessed that it was difficult seeing the criticisms and the fighting among fans on social media.

Sheena Liam is ‘Asia’s Next Top Model’ Cycle 2 winner

MANILA, Philippines – Filipino bets Jodily Pendre and Katarina Rodriguez were beaten by Malaysian representative Sheena Lim for the title Asia’s Net Top Model season 2.

The final episode was aired Wednesday night.

The top 3  faced  two  final challenges. First is a photo shoot in Kuala Terengganu and their task is to reflect the Kampong life through their photos.

After the photo shoot, they flew back to Kuala Lumpur for their runway challenge, where they modeled the designs of Ghea Panggabean and Albert Andrada.
