Sanction, boycott threats follow @Terengganu_FA’s #FACup defeat by Sg’s @FAS_LionsXII http://tdy.sg/1LdkP1l

KUALA LUMPUR — Malaysia’s youth and sports minister has called for tough sanctions after an ambulance was torched and policemen injured when fans rioted following Terengganu’s FA Cup semi-final defeat by Singapore’s Lions XII on Saturday (May 16).
Trouble broke out following a contentious end to the two-legged clash, which the Lions edged on away goals following a 4-4 draw despite a 3-2 defeat in Malaysia.
…
Rioting then broke out inside and outside the stadium with facilities and vehicles damaged, local media reported.
Youth and Sports Minister Khairy Jamaluddin urged the Football Association of Malaysia to act swiftly.
“I wish to stress that rioting cannot be accepted. Those responsible cannot use the referee’s decision as an excuse,” he was quoted as saying by Malaysian newspapers today (May 18).
…
…2011 winners Terengganu were calling for the FAM to conduct an investigation into the late disallowed goal.
“If no action is taken by FAM, I will not hesitate to ask the team to not compete in upcoming tournaments if it is proven that our player was not in offside position,” Terengganu chief minister Ahmad Razif Abdul Rahman told The Star. REUTERS

Terengganu fans turn rowdy after crucial goal not allowed
Policemen escorting the referee out of the stadium on Saturday night
KUALA TERENGGANU: Terengganu football fans reacted by throwing stones at the car of Mentri Besar Datuk Seri Ahmad Razif Abdul Rahman on Saturday night after the team failed to enter the final of the FA Cup.
Despite winning the match 3-2 against Lions XII of Singapore at the Sultan Mizan Zainal Abidin Stadium in Gong Badak, Terengganu were edged out by the visitors 4-4 on the away goals rule.
Much of the fans’ dissatisfaction arose after the decision of the referee, Mohd Amirul Izwan Yaacob, in not awarding Terengganu the fourth goal through Nordin Alias’ header in the 90th minute.
Mohd Amirul ruled it offside. Had the goal stood Terengganu would have made it to the final.
After the match, the majority of the 15,000-odd fans went on to destroy stadium property, including a glass entrance door.

The banner depicted a dog with a human body holding a puppy with “RM” displayed in a bubble talk.
Many believed that they were implying that FAM only cared about money rather than managing local football.
The banner, which was unveiled at JDT supporters’ section, also courted criticism from the netizens, saying that this was not the way to express their disagreement with FAM.
Some defended the move and denied allegations that the dog was made in reference to FAM president, Tengku Abdullah Sultan Ahmad Shah, also the Crown Prince of Pahang.
“In no way the banner said they were referring to the royalty, they’re just mocking FAM in general,” a Facebook user said.

PETALING JAYA: Some Johor Darul Takzim (JDT) fans have earned the “royal wrath” for unleashing a giant banner depicting a dog in a suit with the Football Association of Malaysia (FAM) emblem on it.
This took place during the Charity Shield match against Pahang at Larkin Stadium, Johor Baru on Saturday night.
Describing the act as biadap (disrespectful), the Crown Princess of Pahang, Tunku Azizah Aminah Maimunah Iskandariah, said she was “ashamed” of the behaviour of the JDT supporters.
“As someone who was born and bred in Johor but settled in Pahang , and as the wife of the FAM president, this is all I have to say; BIADAP and KURANG AJAR (disrespectful and rude).

Vietnam warns Malaysian fans against laser beams in AFF Suzuki Cup semis
Tuoi Tre News
Updated : 12/06/2014 14:51 GMT + 7
Fans and the head of the Vietnamese football delegation to Malaysia yesterday warned about the possible repetition of the use of laser beams against their goalkeeper in the first leg of Vietnam’s semifinal against the hosts at the 2014 Southeast Asian Football Championship, or AFF Suzuki Cup, tomorrow in Kuala Lumpur.
Acting on behalf of Japanese coach Toshiya Miura of Vietnam, delegation head Mai Duc Chung told local media in Kuala Lumpur to remind their fans not to do unfair things such as projecting laser beams and setting off firecrackers in the stands.
“I just want the media to help tell their fans not to use laser beams and firecrackers during the match to ensure good and fair football.
“I have to say this because it happened four years ago here in Kuala Lumpur during a semifinal match between Vietnam and Malaysia at the AFF Suzuki Cup.
“Some fans in the stands shined laser beams toward the Vietnamese goalkeeper many times and it caused him to lose concentration and feel disoriented,” Chung was quoted by Thanh Nien newspaper as saying.

KUCHING: It was complete pandemonium at the State Stadium here on Saturday midnight when hundreds of rioters torched and overturned police cars after a football match between Sarawak and Perak.
Not since the late 1980s has there been riots of a similar scale after a football match in Sarawak.
The Star‘s photographer Zulazhar Sheblee, who was covering the match, witnessed the chaos first-hand.
“It was right after the final whistle at 11pm when it all started. Spectators inside the stadium threw bottles, firecrackers and even parts of the fence at the pitch.
“The first of the rioters on the pitch kicked and damaged the advertisements. Outside the stadium, a crowd that had gathered broke through the main gates. By then, the Federal Reserve Unit (FRU) was deployed,” Zulazhar said.
He said it took about three hours for crowds to disperse and calm to return.
“I managed to exit the stadium around 2am. There were still some light scuffles going on,” he said.
The extent of the damage is unclear, but eyewitness said at least four police cars were targeted.

Perak supporters assault Sarawak fans after Malaysia Cup match

KUCHING: Five Sarawak supporters from the group ‘GB13’ were allegedly assaulted outside the compound of Stadium Perak on Wednesday night, according to fan accounts and video on social media.
The attack and name-calling which happened after a Malaysia Cup match which Sarawak lost 2-0, was believed to have been sparked by one of the influential supporter groups of Perak FA (PAFA) at the stadium parking lot when the Sarawak visitors were about to leave.
According to one of the victims, Hifadhi Fatha Sarbini, 22, a Sarawakian working in Ampang, they were about to leave the stadium peacefully when one of the alleged attackers was seen shouting profanities and racial abuse at them in the parking lot.
“I saw him from a distance and was approached by one of the home supporters explaining the situation when seconds later, another home (Perak) supporter ran towards me and threw punches to my head and (I was) being kicked at my body,” he said. “They were shouting ‘balik la..ini Ipoh’ (‘Go home, this is Ipoh’), ‘Sarawak tak reti main’ (Sarawak don’t know how to play’ and ‘Melayu dan Iban Sarawak bodoh’ (‘Malays and Ibans of Sarawak are stupid’) at us when they cornered us,” said Hifadhi.
He later urged the police and the Football Association of Malaysia (FAM) to take action against Perak AFA for failing to provide adequate security to the visiting fans.

‘LOVE Football, Stop Hooliganism’, read the campaign banner just before the Malaysia-Philippines game. The Ultras apparently took that as a dare because 30 minutes into the match, the silent protest ended and bedlam began.
The Ultras, who were unison in a 30-minute silent protest against Sultan Ahmad Shah’s 30-year reign as Football Association Malaysia (FAM) president, went from being civilised to absolute barbarians by throwing smoke bombs onto the pitch, resulting in a seven-minute suspension.

This is the second time this week Malaysian fans have behaved at their worst, and both in games which garnered plenty of attention in the region.
Just four days ago, the AFC Cup encounter between Selangor and Arema was suspended right at the death after the Red Giants’ Ultras also let off smoke bombs at the same venue.
As a result, the Football Association of Selangor (FAS) will bear the brunt with a huge fine and the possibility of having to play behind closed doors.

World Cup T-shirts pulled by adidas after Brazilian tourism board complain they ‘encourage prostitution’
By Anthony Boadle, Associated Press

Sports brand adidas have accepted a request from Brazil’s tourism board to stop selling two T-shirts it marketed ahead of this year’s World Cup because they encourage sexual tourism.
One shirt shows a bikini-clad woman with open arms on a sunny Rio de Janeiro beach under the word-play “Looking to Score.”
The other has an “I love Brazil” heart resembling the upside-down buttocks of a woman wearing a thong bikini bottom.

Offended: The logo has a woman in a bikini on the front with the words ‘lookin’ to score’

Football fan injured following clash outside Darul Makmur Stadium
KUANTAN: A football fan sustained cuts above his left eye following a clash outside the Darul Makmur Stadium after the highly competitive Super League match between Pahang and Johor Darul Takzim (JDT) last night.
The man in his 30s was believed to be hit with a hard object when he and several other JDT supporters were walking towards their vehicles parked in front of the stadium.
However, quick intervention from the Police Light Strike Force (LSF) personnel managed to control the incident before it turned into an all-out brawl.
It is learnt that a small group of fans from Pahang and JDT were involved in the incident outside the stadium before some of them tried to attack each other by pelting stones and other hard objects.
Fans were spotted chanting and singing outside the stadium as police formed a line to separate and prevent them from getting near the two buses, which ferried the JDT players and officials.

Police report against Johor FA chief
A T-Team football player lodged a police report against the crown Prince of Johor claiming that the royalty threatened to kill him.
KUALA TERENGGANU: Fabio Flor De Azavedo, a professional footballer for T-Team, today lodged a police report against the Johor FA president Tunku Ismail Sultan Ibrahim for allegedly threatening to kill him during the half-time break in the match between Johor JDT and T-Team last weekend at the Larkin Stadium, in Johor.
In the police report lodged at the Kuala Terengganu police station this morning, the 33-year-old defender from Brazil said Tunku Ismail approached him during the interval of the match and threatened to kill the defender.
“As I was walking with my teammates during the break to the changing room, the Johor FA president came and said f*** you Brazil, I’ll kill you, this is my country,” he said in the police report.
Azadevo claimed that he replied by saying: “Why do you want to kill me, I come to play football”.
At this juncture T-Team CEO Abdul Rasid Jusoh intervened and pulled Fabio away into the dressing room, he stated in the police report.
According to earlier news reports, Johor Darul Ta’zim (JDT) head coach Cesar Jimenez had a spat with one of T-Team coaching staff. The argument continued and players and staff from both teams stepped in and the argument continued inside the tunnel leading to the changing rooms.
T-Team refused to take the pitch, after the interval, in fear of safety and the match was eventually abandoned.
Terengganu police are mum on the police report.

Meanwhile, FMT also managed to obtain a report by the T-Team management on the incident
A state government source said that the report was supposed to be included with an official police report but was later withdrawn for unknown reasons.

Media man threatened for filming football brawl

A media personnel who recorded a brawl between opposing Malaysia League football teams at the Tan Sri Hassan Yunos Stadium in Larkin, Johor last night was threatened if he did not stop shooting.
Astro Arena last night published a video in which a man was heard yelling: “Pergi belakang! Pergi belakang! Kalau tak nak kamera pecah pergi belakang! (Go to the back! Go to the back! If you don’t want your camera smashed, go to the back!)”
The 65-second Arena clip uploaded by netizens on Facebook page Malaysia Soccer News shows the threat was uttered after cameras panned towards a brawl which only lasted a few seconds.
Prior to the brawl, the camera shows a bearded man running left and exiting the frame. The camera then pans to the left to catch the commotion and a brawl, but it is not clear who assaulted whom.
Immediately after that the camera pans to the right to show the bearded man walking away surrounded by several other men.
The identity of the bearded man — whose face is not shown clearly in the clip — is still is a mystery but Kuala Terengganu District Football Association (T-Team), on its official Facebook page, claims two association members were assaulted.
T-Team claims Brazilian import Evaldo Gonçalves sustained a bloody nose after being punched in the face while the team’s fitness instructor Stefano Impagiazzo was kicked in the groin by a member of “JDT’s higher management”.
In a Facebook posting at about 12pm today, T-Team coach Mohd Azraai Khor Abdullah said Gonçalves and Impagiazzo will undergo a medical check-up before lodging a police report.
Meanwhile, Sinar Harian reported that T-Team decided not to proceed with the second half of the match for safety reasons.

Coventry fans perform rousing rendition of ‘Twist and Shout’ during loss to Arsenal, had more fun than you Friday night
By Brooks Peck | Dirty Tackle
League One side Coventry City made a rare trip to Emirates Stadium for their FA Cup fourth round match against Arsenal. Determined to enjoy the event, regardless of the outcome, a group of Coventry supporters crowded into the concourse after going down 2-0 in the first half and gave a spirited group performance of “Twist and Shout” in front of a food and drinks stand.
With beer flying, the Coventry fans belted out the joyous tune while bouncing around and making the most of their Friday night. Though their side went on to get knocked out of the competition by a score of 4-0, I don’t think anyone anywhere had more fun than they did that night.
