WHAT WILL ANWAR DO IF HE BECOMES MENTRI BESAR?
Malaysiakini

Anwar: What I would do as Selangor MB
…
Summary:
1.“If I become MB,” he said, raising his voice on ‘if’, “it will be until I become prime minister.” He smiled.
2. “I cannot accept Selangor being held every time to ransom. Every other week you have this problem, these attacks.
“We seem to be quite helpless, either they (the BN) use state apparatus or some NGO and not much can be done … we will not allow this to happen. This requires political leadership.”
3. What Anwar will change is how the RM3billion reserves are used. He argues that there is no point talking about reserves with issues like poverty and public housing still a problem in the state.
“The mantle of economic management is not good reserves but good management of the economy. If you spend money, say the reserves, for public housing and free education for Universiti Selangor students, then is it wasting public money?”
4. Anwar will deal with the rising religious tensions over the use of ‘Allah’ by non-Muslims.
If he heads the Selangor government, Anwar said, he could use state resources to build the confidence of Muslims so they would not feel threatened by purported threats to their faith.

‘Smut and sodomy, what have I not seen?’
INTERVIEW For a brief and jarring moment, PKR de facto leader Anwar Ibrahim and Utusan Malaysia’s ‘Awang Selamat’ appeared to speak with one voice.
The day before Malaysiakini met with Anwar, Awang – the pseudonym used by Utusan editors in opinion pieces – had sniped at him for ‘manipulating the democratic system for his own gains’ through the so-called ‘Kajang Move’.
Awang had asked in an article pegged to the upcoming Kajang by-election: ‘Will everything be sodomised – people, systems and values?’
The play was on ‘sodomy’, a reference to Anwar’s lengthy trial which had ended in his acquittal, although the government’s appeal against the verdict will be heard later this month.
Anwar himself is not squeamish about using the word which has plagued him since 1998. In fact, he uses it in the same crudeness and aplomb.
“The by-election before, sodomy case. This by-election, sodomy case. The whole country is being sodomised!” he says, scowling, his index fingers making circles in the air.
After 15 years of being dogged by accusations of sexual misconduct, Anwar said he has learnt to make his peace with the situation and probably thinks about it less than his detractors.
“The only time I really focused on it was when I was in prison, because I had nothing to do anyway … I don’t anymore,” he said.

KAJANG: Opposition leader Datuk Sri Anwar Ibrahim hit back at Youth and Sports Minister Khairy Jamaluddin who had mocked him for wearing a Selangor football jersey at an event recently.
“The Sports Minister asked why I was wearing a Selangor jersey when I was from Pulau Pinang. I see people wearing Manchester jerseys … Are they from Manchester?” he said to shrieks of laughter at the packed Taman Mesra community hall in Kajang.
Khairy supports English giants Manchester United.
Anwar, the Permatang Pauh MP also said that he had stayed in many places in Malaysia including Kuala Kangsar.
“I was also in Kamunting for two years,” he said in jest and in reference to his detention under the Internal Security Act.
“I also stayed in Selangor for berpuluh-puluh (many) years,” he added.

Here’s a good reason for Anwar in Kajang!
Malaysian Insider
We need Anwar in Selangor to prevent Putrajaya declaring state of emergency, says PKR
Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim ‘s presence in Selangor is vital to prevent Putrajaya from declaring a state of emergency to wrest control of the richest state, PKR strategist Rafizi Ramli said today.
He said Barisan Nasional/Umno had done this in Kelantan in 1977 when it declared a state of emergency and subsequently grabbed power from PAS.
“This is one of the possibilities which we cannot rule out based on the escalating race and religious tension in Selangor,” he said in response to why Anwar needed to contest in the Kajang by-election. – February 4,, 2014.

Lim Kit Siang for Malaysia
Anwar Ibrahim in Kajang state seat is good for Malaysia
By Augustine Anthony
4.1.2014
When Dato’ Sri Anwar Ibrahim’s decision to run for the now vacant Kajang state seat in Selangor was announced by Tan Sri Khalid Ibrahim, the current Mentri Besar of Selangor, the extent of criticism against Anwar Ibrahim, PKR and Pakatan Rakyat as a whole ranged from thumbs down and negative to downright hostility.
The looks on the ordinary and mostly educated middle class people whenever this issue was raised was one of disgust.
You cannot defend the indefensible and, in this case Anwar Ibrahim’s candidacy for the Kajang state seat, is the general feeling. A betrayal of voters’ hopes, aspirations and confidence is no small matter and such an act must bear the full brunt of the nation’s backlash.
…
My initial and immediate reaction when I saw Lim Kit Siang during the announcement, which I perceived as a scheme ill thought of and designed to betray the Malaysian voters, ranged from one of disappointment to disgust and to a total despair for a reformed Malaysian politics of the future.
…
Now a week has passed. Some have come forward to defend Anwar Ibrahim’s Kajang state seat candidacy but not without being given the proverbial brick bats. Could it be a case of defending the indefensible? Can anyone who defends this Pakatan Rakyat move come out unscathed? Not likely. And not when Dato’ Ambiga Sreenevasan herself had gone public to say that PKR must give the Malaysian public an overwhelmingly good reason for this Kajang by election.
…
I have been asking questions too in the last one week. Irrational outburst had now given way to more discerning mind manoeuvres. I think I see the bigger picture and Ambiga may even get her “overwhelmingly good reason” too.
I am now of the view that Anwar Ibrahim, standing as a candidate in the Kajang by election is the single most important and sound decision taken by Pakatan Rakyat in recent times and it augurs well not just for Selangorians but for Malaysians as a whole. The perceived Azmin and Khalid Ibrahim feud may not be the reason for this decision seeing things from the future. This design whether by an intentional act or an accidental occurrence is certainly for the greater good of this country.
One may ask why Pakatan Rakyat didn’t think of this contingency plan during the 13th General Election. Isn’t the answer clear that we humans have always had the ability to learn from our past mistakes and to forge a better and brighter future – all by trial and error? A human trait clearly evident in all of us.
I now give my reasons.
1. Debates in State Legislative Assemblies can often turn into a joke. There is ample proof of this in media archives.
2. If Malaysians think they can look to our Parliament for any inspiration for the shortcomings of Legislative Assembly meetings, they will be sorely disappointed. Yes, there are some politicians who speak and raise issues intelligently for the benefit of Malaysians as a whole. I make mention here a few names as it comes to my mind as I write though I am aware that there are other parliamentarians deserving praise for their good work. Lim Kit Siang raises mega issues and pursues them unrelentingly. M. Kulasegaran raises substantial issues on labour and employment matters. Young ones like Rafizi Ramli, Khairy Jamaluddin, Nurul Izzah indicate that there is still hope. But apart from some notable parliamentary debates, many other debates do not show real and noteworthy deliberation. Bills are fast tracked with little or no quality deliberations and public outcry usually follows immediately after it is passed as an Act of Parliament. Worse, and it is now an increasing and obscene trend in parliament where more and more parliamentarians are eager and willing to partake in fruitless shouting matches and name calling. Just read the Hansard. It is all there for us to see.
3. When the public perceives the State Legislative Assemblies and Parliament as places where members do more disservice rather than service to Malaysians, surely there must be a place where this nation could turn to where the hopes and aspirations of Malaysians could be articulated with dignity, respect and mutual reverence. Is there such a place for Malaysians in our Constitution? Yes indeed. It is the Conference of Rulers (Majlis Raja Raja) as provided for under Article 38 of the Federal Constitution.
4. There are many amongst us who think that since Malaysia practices a Constitutional Monarchy, it would necessarily mean that the monarchs are mostly ceremonial with little and limited powers. This is a misconceived thought. Far from it, the Raja Raja and the Majlis Raja Raja is such a powerful body with enormous responsibilities and powers. Their Highnesses the Raja Raja bring great balance for the continued peace and well being of this country. All of this is done with little publicity but with great dignity and respect.
For more on the powers of Conference of Rulers, please read the article by Prof Shad Saleem Faruqi.5. Article 38(3) of the Federal Constitution says – “When the Conference deliberates on matters of national policy the Yang di-Pertuan Agong shall be accompanied by the Prime Minister, and the other Rulers and the Yang di-Pertua-Yang di-Pertua Negeri by their Menteri-Menteri Besar or Chief Ministers; and the deliberations shall be among the functions exercised, by the Yang di-Pertuan Agong in accordance with the advice of the Cabinet, and by other Rulers and the Yang di-Pertua-Yang di-Pertua Negeri in accordance with the advice of their Executive Councils.”
6. Article 38(3) of The Federal Constitution is so apt, timely and interesting for the current political climate that must urgently address many pressing issues ranging from race, religion, economy and so on.
7. In 2013 13th General Election Pakatan Rakyat, led by Anwar Ibrahim, commanded the confidence of the majority of Malaysian voters by garnering 50.87% of the popular votes. For the first time in Malaysian history, the Conference of Rulers may see the leader of the Government i.e. The Prime Minister who commands the confidence of the majority in the parliament, articulating or exchanging views with the Leader of the Opposition who commands the confidence of majority of Malaysians voters.
8. Can the above scenario happen in Malaysia? Yes and only if Anwar Ibrahim wins the Kajang state seat and goes on to become the Mentri Besar of Selangor.
9. Anwar Ibrahim, with his wealth of knowledge and political experience both internationally and locally, can be a great service to this nation by his presence in the Conference of Rulers.
To me it will be a great joy to know, see and hear that the Prime Minister and the Leader of the Opposition articulate all that is best for Malaysians in the presence of the best arbiters this country can provide and what better arbiters can Malaysians ask for these holders of the highest offices in this country if not the Conference of Rulers where all that is for the greater good of this country could be deliberated with respect, reverence and true statesmanship befitting their office.
We will wait for interesting times ahead in our Malaysian history.

Why is UMNO so focussed on Sex?
Umno information chief Ahmad Maslan said that UMNO would expose Kajang voters to the ‘truth’ about the Opposition Leader, who is contesting in the by-election.
“His sodomy case with (his former aide) Mohd Saiful (Bukhari Azlan) and his video case… so the Kajang voters must be told about these,” Ahmad was quoted as saying yesterday.

Analysts: Sex issue will backfire on Umno
Anwar Ibrahim’s alleged sex scandals are saturated and overused as campaign fodder, say analysts.
PETALING JAYA: Umno’s strategy of highlighting Anwar Ibrahim’s alleged sexual issues in the run-up to the Kajang by-election will either backfire on the party or leave voters indifferent, said political analysts.
“The Kajang electorate is not your typical east coast kampung electorate. A lot has been said about the sex scandal already, and it’s been saturated,” said Dr Lim Teck Ghee, director of Centre for Policy Initiatives (CPI).
“What voters want to hear is how the BN is going to improve conditions of life in Kajang and Selangor, rather than focus on any kind of personal smear campaign. I’m sure it’s going to backfire on BN.”

EC: No power to act on smear campaign
According to the Election Commission (EC) chairman, the EC only bears responsibility during the campaign period.
PETALING JAYA: The Election Commission (EC) has no power to stop any smear campaign prior to the nomination day of a particular by-election.
Its chairman Abdul Aziz Mohd Yusof told FMT today that the commission could only bear responsibility during the campaign period.
When asked to comment on Padang Serai MP N Surendran’s call for the EC to summon Prime Minister Najib Tun Razak on the smear campaign against Opposition Leader Anwar Ibrahim in the Kajang by-election, Abdul Aziz simply said that politicians know that they should follow the laws.
“All politicians know the laws of the election campaign and the code of ethics during campaign period.
“So not only Barisan Nasional (BN) but everyone must co-operate, understand and follow the law,” he said, stressing that the law was not something new.

Ridhuan: MCA should field a Chinese Muslim in Kajang
Ridhuan Tee Abdullah has proposed that the MCA field a Chinese Muslim candidate, in a bid to win the Malay hearts and capture the seat from PKR.
The academician – in an opinion piece in Sinar Harian today – said Malays account for 48 percent of the population in the state constituency, whereas there are 41 percent Chinese and 10 percent Indians.
He said PKR has won the seat since 2008 and what’s more, if it had a Chinese majority which backs the opposition, the BN coalition would be faring much worse then.
“Hence, reflect on this MCA. MCA has never been strong as it only won seats in Malay-majority areas. What is puzzling is that MCA is confident that it could recapture Kajang,” he said in the posting.

PKR de factor leader Anwar Ibrahim apparently has his sights on the Selangor Menteri Besar post to have access to the Rulers’ Council as well as other influential quarters, his former ally Chandra Muzaffar said.
In an interview with Berita Harian Ahad today, he said that this would be Anwar’s tactic to get in the good books of the palace.
“I feel Anwar’s main aim is not to be MB, but he has other goals. This is his strategy to win Putrajaya.
“He will use this to prove to Malaysians that he is an efficient and competent MB, who is more effective than the previous MB, and he will use this to ‘brag’ and influence the people.
“He will also try to get close to other MB’s to gain support…He will be able to mix with the public more easily and more importantly, be closer to the (Selangor sultan) and Malay rulers through the Rulers’ Council,” he said.

Kajang folk excited over prospect of having ‘star’ assemblyman
BY ELIZABETH ZACHARIAH
February 02, 2014
The last time Kajang was associated with a famous politician was when former health minister Tan Sri Lee Kim Sai represented the state constituency as the Hulu Langat MP.
That was almost 20 years ago and when MCA was powerful.
This past week, Kajang residents have found out that they have the opportunity of being represented by another well-known leader, Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim, who is speculated to replace Selangor Menteri Besar Tan Sri Abdul Khalid Ibrahim if the PKR de facto leader wins the by-election.
Reaction to the news has been mixed but the prospect of having the opposition leader as assemblyperson has made its way into coffee-shop talk, living rooms and places of worship: sparking excitement among the town’s residents and raising questions why Anwar has chosen this town, famed for its satay and the federal prison in Sungai Jelok.
While many in the town south of capital Kuala Lumpur express surprise over the reasons for the by-election, their conversation invariably turn to the perks of having a leader with clout.
…
“Anwar as menteri besar will mean that a whole range of issues in the town can be settled. I am sure funds will be found to address the traffic congestion in the town and roads leading out during peak hours,” said businessman Abdul Munir.

MB: I’ve nothing to do with Twitter war

Selangor Menteri Besar Abdul Khalid Ibrahim has said that he is not involved in the actions of his ex-political aide Faekah Hussin who has been criticising other PKR leaders on Twitter.
He said the “cold war” between Faekah and another ex-aide Nik Nazmi Nik Ahmad does not reflect his stand on the Kajang by-election and possible change of MB.
“I will make a press statement on what the state and our stand is in these maters… Whatever that is written online is not our official stand.
…
Yesterday, Faekah made several postings on Twitter, among others criticising those who were after the MB post.
Today, Nik Nazmi responded on his Twitter, saying: “We are no longer setpol (political secretaries) but we still talk a lot about politics.”
The Twitter war stemmed from the speculation that opposition leader Anwar Ibrahim would replace Khalid as menteri besar.

Kajang polls hopeful caught in racism row

Yuktes Vijay, a former legal aide of Opposition Leader Anwar Ibrahim’s lawyer Sankara Nair, has been caught in a racism row after a controversial Chinese New Year greeting status he posted on his Facebook page on Thursday.
Yuktes, who has offered himself as an independent candidate for the Kajang by-election against Anwar, made his Chinese New Year greetings to only five percent of the Chinese community who he said are “good and grateful”.
“To all the DAP and other Chinese who are in the same direction as them, please drink a lot and drive your cars to Genting. If you manage to reach there, please gamble as though today is the last day of the world.
“If you manage to wake up tomorrow, it is fated, we can’t change anything, we have to fight the racist attitude for one more year. To my family which are the five percent, you know I love you all,” he posted on his Facebook late on Thursday.
‘I hate the 95 percent because they voted for DAP’
…
However, Yuktes, who also served briefly as an aide to current Deputy Education Minister II P Kamalanathan after leaving Anwar’s legal team, defended his posting and claimed it is unfair to label him a racist.
…
“Can I be called racist when the five percent who support me are also from the same race?” he asked in subsequent Facebook posting late last night.
“I hate the 95 percent of the composition (Chinese) because they support DAP, not because they are from that composition (Chinese),” he said.
“I hate DAP and that will not change,” Yuktes said

‘Elections as political strategy must be lauded’

The use of elections to obtain political advantage “strengthens electoral democracy” and elections should therefore be “nurtured and encouraged”, PKR vice-president N Surendran said today in response to criticisms of PKR’s ‘Kajang move’.
The Padang Serai MP said that it is the right of the political party to go back to the people as part of a political strategy, be it through a by-election or a national election.
“Much of the criticism has been knee-jerk, poorly reasoned and displays a lack of understanding of party and electoral politics,” Surendran said in a statement today.
…
“A by-election is a superb way for the people to have their say; every properly conducted by-election strengthens democracy, and is an affirmation of participatory democracy,” he said.
“The critics of the ‘ Kajang move’ fail to perceive that a modern democracy cannot effectively function without the crowding and jostling of political parties seeking electoral and political advantage. This political advantage can be sought through every legitimate and permitted method, including by-elections,” he added.
…
A by-election is not against the interest of the rakyat, it is instead for the “best possible” thing for the rakyat, Surendran added.

PKR struggles to present united front as by-election looms
HULU LANGAT, Feb 1 — PKR is redoubling its efforts to convince voters in Kajang that there is no bad blood among its leaders amid growing public anger over the party’s move to trigger a by-election in the area.

PKR leaders singing praises of Anwar, but Netizens do not think so
KAJANG: PKR leaders have been singing praises of their adviser Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim as they defend his move to Kajang before a critical public.
But their words only seem to serve as added ammunition to disgruntled people on social media who mock the tributes to the Opposition Leader.
…
Meanwhile, Datuk Seri Najib Razak said the contest was not about the electorate but more about the interests of an individual.
The Prime Minister said in his twitter account @NajibRazak: “Regardless of the infighting, this by-election in Kajang is less about the people but more about the interests of one man #BETTERNATION.”

PETALING JAYA: The plea by PKR strategy director Rafizi Ramli for the people to forgive the party for the resignation of its Kajang assemblyman to make way for Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim has not been received well by the people.
Charles Furfur Lee said “Owhh just shut up. You guys are no different than the ones you kutuk (insult).”
Wan Zul said: “I always thought Rafizi is different from other politicians who treat us like idiots. Apparently I’m wrong.”
Many also expressed that they feel used and that the welfare of the people had not been taken into consideration by the politicians.

PAS slams PKR’s move to name Anwar as candidate
PETALING JAYA: PAS, which holds 15 seats in Selangor state assembly, has criticised PKR’s move to name Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim as candidate for the Kajang state seat by-election.
PAS Dewan Ulama information chief Datuk Dr Mohd Khairuddin Aman Razali claimed that the decision to choose Tan Sri Khalid Ibrahim as Selangor Mentri Besar was made by PAS president Datuk Seri Abdul Hadi Awang.
“Any move to replace Khalid would tantamount to an insult to our party president’s intelligence,” he said in a statement yesterday.
Dr Mohd Khairuddin blamed the latest fiasco on “certain PKR leaders” with personal interests while Khalid was mentri besar.

‘By-election is PKR’s own doing’
PKR and the Pakatan alliance have drawn heavy flak after Kajang assemblyman Lee Chin Cheh announced his resignation on Monday to make way for Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim to contest.
The manoeuvre flabbergasted many, evoking a wave of condemnation from many quarters, including PKR’s political ally, Pas, and opposition-friendly non-governmental organisation Bersih.
The move has been slammed as undermining the mandate given by the Kajang constituents in the 13th General Election, an abuse of the democratic process and a waste of public funds and time.
Former prime minister Tun Dr Mahathir Mohamad joined the fray, saying Anwar was only interested in pursuing his personal goal to become the prime minister, not serving the people.
Pas ulama council information chief Datuk Mohd Khairuddin Aman Razali said PKR had “betrayed” the tahaluf siyasi (political cooperation) in the opposition alliance by forcing the by-election.
Anwar’s decision to contest came amid escalating tension between PKR vice-president Azmin Ali and Selangor Menteri Besar Tan Sri Khalid Ibrahim.

Karpal: Candidacy a collective decision
KUALA LUMPUR: DAP chairman Karpal Singh yesterday insisted that the candidacy of PKR de facto leader Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim in the upcoming Kajang by-election was a collective decision by the opposition alliance.
He said the move was “a decision that has far-reaching consequences and has to be decided upon carefully, and cannot be made by PKR alone”.
Karpal’s claim was in contrast to the hostile reaction by several top DAP and Pas leaders, when it was made known that PKR was forcing a by-election in Kajang.
DAP party secretary-general Lim Guan Eng was quoted on Monday as saying he was not made aware of PKR’s plan to vacate the Kajang state seat.
Selangor Pas commissioner Iskandar Abdul Samad, on the same day, said he was caught off-guard by PKR’s move.
Selangor Pas Youth threatened to boycott the by-election if PKR failed to give a reasonable explanation on the matter.
Despite the negative reaction from PKR’s allies, including quarters within his own party, Karpal said he threw his full support behind the move.

The appeal hearing is slated for Feb 12 and 13.
“I believe it is related to his court case…. It would also put pressure on the judges since the person in the dock would be an election candidate.
“And if the appeal is eventually upheld, the opposition would paint the town red with criticism of the judiciary and accuse the government of a conspiracy,” he told Malaysiakini.

Tee Keat: Liow should contest in Kajang
The MCA president should contest in the Kajang by-election to save the party from present embarrassment in Selangor, says Ong Tee Keat.
PETALING JAYA: MCA president Liow Tiong Lai should be the BN candidate in the Kajang by-election to help save the party from the present embarrassment of zero representation in the Selangor State Assembly.
Former minister and ex-MCA chief Ong Tee Keat was today responding to Liow’s statement yesterday that the question of a candidate should not arise because Kajang had always been a MCA seat.
“I call on the Kajang by-election committee chairman Wee Ka Siong to nominate Liow Tiong Lai to be the MCA and BN candidate for Kajang,” Ong said in a statement today.
“As PKR is fielding the national opposition leader, perhaps only someone of Liow’s stature would have the desired parity to take on Anwar Ibrahim, the former deputy prime minister,” he added.

In an interesting twist to the Kajang saga, PKR Wanita chief Zuraida Kamaruddin has taken MCA deputy president Wee Ka Siong to task for “insulting” the people of Kajang by calling the place a “satay town”.
“As a national leader, Wee should realise that calling Kajang a satay town is downright insulting and demeaning to the residents of Kajang.
“Kajang may be famous for its satay but it is definitely not a satay town, nor its residents ‘satay people’.
“Kajang residents have already rejected BN and MCA in the last election, and there is no need for MCA to further insult the people of Kajang in that manner,” Zuraida said in a statement today.

MCA man confident against Anwar
BN’s GE 13 candidate for Kajang says he has an edge of 12,000 votes over the opposition leader.
PETALING JAYA: Barisan Nasional’s GE13 candidate for Kajang, Lee Ban Seng, believes he will capture at least 12,000 votes against Anwar Ibrahim if BN nominates him for the upcoming by-election.
Speaking to FMT today, Lee said his ability to muster 12,747 votes in the general election last May 5 despite the prevailing anti-BN mood proved that he had a significant amount of support in the constituency of 38,965 voters.
“If I can get 12,000 votes when there was a strong swing to Pakatan, that means I have a baseline support of 12,000 votes,” said the local Kajang man.
“This is my edge against Anwar if they field me again.”
He said he won 18% of the Chinese votes and more than 50% of the Malay votes in the May election.
Lee lost to PKR’s Lee Chin Cheh, who resigned yesterday to make way for the first by-election to take place in Selangor since GE13. PKR today announced Anwar as the Pakatan Rakyat candidate.
Selangor MCA deputy chief Donald Lim told FMT his party would wait until after the Chinese New Year celebrations to announce its candidate.
“It won’t be announced so soon,” he said. “We expect it would take a while, until after the Chinese New Year.”

In Selangor, knives being sharpened for MB Khalid
KUALA LUMPUR, Jan 28 — The sign on the door to the Selangor mentri besar’s office still reads “Tan Sri Abdul Khalid Ibrahim”, but the surprise resignation of a state assemblyman yesterday has set in motion events that may soon bring a change.
The Malay Mail Online understands that high-level discussions are well under way among top Pakatan Rakyat (PR) leaders to replace Khalid, although no decision has been made as the three parties within the ruling coalition do not agree on his successor.
“We have approached two senior leaders in DAP and two in PAS and brought up the matter… there is a general feeling that Khalid should no longer remain as MB; too many thing have led to this,” a PKR leader told The Malay Mail Online on condition of anonymity.
While popular with the general public, Khalid’s penchant for unilateral decision-making in administrating the country’s wealthiest state is understood to be a source of dissatisfaction among PR leaders in the state.

At 3.00pm tomorrow, Anwar Ibrahim is going to deliver a ‘Special Address’ to all Malaysians.
I wonder what this is about. Is it about the Allah word crisis?
I doubt it…
I can only suspect that this must be about an even bigger problem than the Allah word issue. And this would be the Selangor Menteri Besar (MB) crisis.
I was told that DAP and PAS have agreed that Tan Sri Khalid Ibrahim be removed as MB, as the PKR Supreme Council is demanding. But they do not want Azmin Ali to replace Khalid.
…
Hence that leaves only one option open to the party. One of the 12 ADUN would have to resign so that a by-election could be called and Anwar would then contest this seat. And if he wins the by-election, Anwar would take over as MB.
To sack Khalid and replace him with Azmin is a no-go. Not to sack Khalid would mean the Selangor crisis would never be resolved. The only way, therefore, is for Anwar to become the MB so that neither Khalid nor Azmin gets the job.
I was told that negotiations are ongoing even as you read this. Is this what Anwar is going to announce in his “Perutusan Khas Untuk Rakyat Malaysia” at 3.00pm tomorrow?

Anwar as the Selangor MB?
PETALING JAYA: Plans are afoot within PKR to make the party’s de facto leader Anwar Ibrahim as the new Selangor Menteri Besar to replace the embattled Khalid Ibrahim.
This move is expected to solve the power struggle between Khalid and his nemesis Azmin Ali, who is the state PKR chief.
…
It is also learned that the DAP hierarchy has agreed to this plan while it is unknown on how PAS would take it. It is also uncertain as to how the Sultan of Selangor will view this development.
In the May 2013 GE, both DAP and PAS won 15 seats each while PKR won 14, following which there were calls from PAS for the party’s candidate to be chosen as the MB.
At the same time, there were also attempts made to make Azmin as the new MB. However Khalid was eventually allowed to retain the MB post in the spirit of Pakatan camaraderie.
In recent weeks, the relationship between Azmin and Khalid deteriorated following the former’s removal from the Selangor State Development Corporation (PKNS) board.
Many blamed Khalid for this as his move to strengthen his position for the April party polls. Khalid is expected to challenge Azmin for the deputy president’s post.
The PKNS fiasco resulted in PKR state reps and party leaders in support of Azmin to call upon the party to remove Khalid as the state MB, and replace him with their man Azmin.
Earlier this week, the party officially announced that there were no moves to remove Khalid.

Rumble in S’gor PKR
The power struggle among top two PKR leaders in Selangor is not about to die down with state assemblymen taking sides to show their loyalty.
PETALING JAYA: Selangor Menteri Besar Khalid Ibrahim seems to be walking on a tightrope, facing revolt among fellow party leaders who want him replaced with nemesis Bukit Antarabangsa state assemblyman Azmin Ali, who is also the PKR deputy president.
The fight between the two could result in long-term instability to the state leadership, now in the hands of Pakatan Rakyat.
The 14 PKR state assemblymen in Selangor have taken sides and this has caused nighmares for Khalid in running the state smoothly.
Pakatan Rakyat cornered 44 state seats in Selangor at the last general election in May 2013. Fellow components DAP and PAS hold 15 seats each, in the 56-seat Selangor state assembly.
…
Seri Andalas assemblyman Xavier Jayakumar and Sri Muda assemblyman Mat Shuhaimi Shafie confirmed that Selangor PKR, headed by Azmin, at a meeting on Jan 12, unanimously decided to write a collective letter to the national leadership stating their unhappiness with Khalid over several issues.
