‘We’re committed to well-being of Castlefield’
Prasarana says it is extremely disappointed with the MIC and parents of the Tamil school for preventing it from carrying out the LRT extension work.
PETALING JAYA: A LRT extension construction company is unhappy that its contractors were prevented from carrying out their work, by a group of MIC members and parents from Castlefield Tamil School.
Prasarana Negara Berhad (Prasarana) said it is extremely disappointed that efforts to build an LRT Line Extension Project (LEP) have been hindered by reckless actions of these individuals.
They also claimed that the individuals, who had formed a blockade in front of the school yesterday, scuffled with auxiliary policemen from the company, resulting in a senior officer being injured.
This is despite Prasarana obtaining an injunction to enter part of the school compound and informing the school authorities of the planned work to be undertaken.
“This is the third time that we have made effort to enter the site. We have stated repeatedly that we will ensure minimum interruption to the children’s studies while construction of the LEP is underway,” said Prasarana’s group director of the project development division, Zulkifli Md Yusoff.
“We are dedicated to ensuring that the well-being of the schoolchildren and their teachers are not compromised during this period. Apart from enhancing the school’s facilities, we would also ensure the safety of the children and public,” he added.

The proposed 17.7km extension of the Ampang Line, which runs from the current Sri Petaling LRT Station to the integrated Putra Heights stations, involved a 220-meter stretch that passes the edge of the SRK Tamil Castlefield school field; running parallel to the Lebuhraya Puchong Damansara (LDP) and the erection of five pillars.
In January 2011, Pejabat Tanah dan Daerah Petaling had given the approval to Prasarana to enter government land within LRT alignment and to start the construction works.
In stopping the works, the School Board said that it would only allow entry for the contractors if they are given a new piece of land to re-locate the school plus other incentives. That sparked a series of meetings with various agencies including the state’s economic action unit (MTES), Education Ministry, Transport Ministry and the local authorities.
While these meetings continued, the School Board remained adamant that no work should start at the site; forcing Prasarana and its contractors into endless wait while incurring needless expenses.
Recently, a group of 80 parents came out in the open to voice their disagreement for the relocation exercise; signing a document to state their position and voicing out their concern for the delay of the LEP project.

No Reason For Works To Delay At Castlefield School – PRASARANA
Kuala Lumpur, 6 December 2013 – With an apparent disagreement between parents over the proposed relocation of the controversial SRK Tamil Castlefield in Puchong, contractors to the LRT Line Extension Project (LEP) has urged for the school to accept the fact that the transfer exercise would not materialise and to allow them to start their work at the site.
In a statement issued today, Syarikat Prasarana Negara Berhad (Prasarana) – the project owner for LEP – said that there was no need for the works to be delayed any more.
“It has been dragging too long and wasting too much time and resources for all … The School Board should accept the fact that the proposed transfer would not be happening. Let’s us all work on completing the LEP project, building the noise barriers and installing the air-conditioned units for the classes.
“For any relocation exercise, the Education Ministry has set a requirement that 100 percent approval from all parents is necessary. Clearly, there are parents who want their children to continue their studies at the current location.
“Discussion for any relocation exercise is, therefore, unnecessary anymore. Let’s our contractors do their work,” Prasarana Group Director for Project Development, Encik Zulkifli Mohd Yusof said today.

Ampang LRT extension delayed to 1Q2016; contractors chased out of Puchong Tamil school grounds
PETALING JAYA: The completion of Syarikat Prasarana Negara Bhd’s Ampang LRT extension project is now expected to be completed in the first quarter of 2016 after running into problems at its site near the SJK (Tamil) Castlefield.
The school with 500 students and 35 teachers currently occupies a 1.01ha site along Jalan TPP 1/17 in Puchong, Selangor.
According to Prasarana, the project’s contractors were chased away by the school’s representatives on Wednesday when they tried to secure a work area located along the edge of the school compound.
“We have obtained all the relevant approvals in order to enter our work site there.
“The school is currently on state land and the Land Office gave us approval to enter the site in early 2011,” Prasarana’s development division group director Zulkifli Mohd Yusoff said in a statement here yesterday.
It was previously reported that about 150m of the alignment would pass through the fringe of the school’s field, an area that Prasarana’s contractors would fence up before commencing construction.
The company said that its contractors had met with similar incidents when they had tried to enter the earmarked area in November last year.
