PRASANA TAKES YOUR MONEY ANY WHICH WAY IT CAN!
Syarikat Prasarana Negara Berhad (Prasarana) imposes a ‘platform fee’ on Light Rail Transit (LRT) and KL Monorail commuters.
The fee is 70 sen for LRT stations and RM 1.20 for monorail stations and the amount of the charge is based on the minimum fare when traveling on the LRT and the monorail line.
RapidKL has imposed from Nov 15, 2013, a minimum charge, for entry and exit at the same LRT and monorail station in an effort to address fraud and abuse of their facilities in the paid area.

Consumer groups say no to ‘Platform Fee’
Platform fee is unnecessary and Prasarana is urge to look for another alternative to prevent fraud cases.
PETALING JAYA: Two consumer groups have opposed the decision made by Syarikat Prasarana Negara Berhad (Prasarana) for imposing the ‘platform fee’ charges on Light Rail Transit (LRT) and KL Monorail commuters and has described the move as ridiculous.
Federation of Malaysian Consumers Association (Fomca) secretary-general Paul Selvaraj when contacted said that reason given by Prasarana was not good enough to implement the ‘fee’ as the train service has yet to improve.
Paul then told FMT that instead of making profit the government linked company should have focus more on how to improve its good service to the commuters.

Commuters ‘railroaded’ over LRT platform fees
The company that runs the stations claim the platform fee imposed on November 15, 2013 is to reduce fraud and for maintenence.
PETALING JAYA: Syarikat Prasarana Negara Berhad (Prasarana) said that ‘platform fee’ charges imposed on Light Rail Transit (LRT) and KL Monorail commuters is similiar to what many other countries charge.
This was in response to a recent complaint by a commuter whose Touch n Go card value was deducted eventhough the LRT train service had been suspended.
Prasarana Communications and Media Affairs senior manager Azhar Ghazali told FMT that in such cases, the commuter may request for a refund but an official complaint letter needed to be submitted to My Rapid for their investigation.
“The fee is 70 sen for LRT stations and RM 1.20 for monorail stations and the amount of the charge is based on the minimum fare when traveling on the LRT and the monorail line,” Azhar added.
“RapidKL has imposed from Nov 15, 2013, a minimum charge, for entry and exit at the same LRT and monorail station in an effort to address fraud and abuse of our facilities in the paid area.
“While the requirement on the imposition of a minimum charge has long been stipulated under the Conditions of Carriage, issued to rail operators upon commencement of services, it was only recently that RapidKL has decided to impose the charge.”
“Countries such as Hong Kong, Singapore, Thailand and Taiwan have already been imposing the platform fee as a way to reduce fraud.”
