NGOs allege BIAS on part of Attorney-General aka Mr No Further Action..

___________________________________________________________

Attorney-General Tan Sri Abdul Gani Patail is Mr No Further Action except in the Alvivi case, where it is Super Speed Ahead.

The bishop said while Prime Minister Najib Abdul Razak  promoted his 1Malaysia campaign nationwide, attempts to foster racial ties would come to naught if the law was applied on an unequal basis.

“To prove that all citizens are equal before the law, the authorities must charge Zulkifli and Ibrahim (right), failing which it would create the impression that non-Muslims (in Malaysia) are considered children of a lesser God.

Bishop: Double standard is immoral

Weighing on the case of two bloggers hauled to court on a charge of insulting Islam, Bishop Paul Tan cautioned that double standards are immoral as this is an affront to justice.

NONEWhile retribution was swift in this case, the head of the Johor and Malacca Catholic diocese lamented the lack of action when other faiths are derided.

Tan cited the controversies involving Perkasa leaders Ibrahim Ali and Zulkifli Noordin.

Both had earned the wrath of the bishop when Ibrahim called for the torching of the Bible carrying the word “Allah” and Zulkifli for belittling the Hindu faith.

“While we abhor the disparaging of any faith, the government must show that it works without fear or favour in acting against all those who do so.

“In the case of (bloggers) Alvin Tan and Vivian Lee, retribution was swift, but I note with regret that such action was never taken against Zulkifli and Ibrahim,” Tan told Malaysiakini.

Still waiting for Datuk Zulkifli Noordin to be charged with sedition or some law for uttering insulting words against Hindus? No Further Action.

Still waiting for Datuk Ibrahim Ali to be charged with threatening to burn Malay-language bibles? No Further Action.

Still waiting for Home Minister Datuk Seri Zahid Hamidi to be charged with causing grievous hurt? No Further Action.

Still waiting for Malaysia’s Attorney-General Tan Sri Abdul Gani Patail to take action against the rich and powerful implicated in the judicial fixing appointments laid bare by the Royal Commission of Inquiry? Do Not Bother.

…a picture is emerging that the biggest obstacle to fair play and justice being part of the country’s legal landscape is the man who has sworn to protect the integrity of Malaysia’s legal system: Attorney-General Gani.

No evidence? Maybe Gani and his investigators could have got away with that throwaway line in the pre-Internet days. Maybe.

But multitudes of Malaysians have seen Zulkifli insulting and demeaning Indians in a video clip that has gone viral….

IGP: AG’s Chambers ordered probe on Zul Noordin stopped

Inspector-general of police Khalid Abu Bakar said the police had submitted its probe on Perkasa vice-president Zulkifli Nordin’s alleged insult of Hinduism to the Attorney-General’s Chambers but was ordered to cease investigation.

NONE“Due investigation was done for all the reports we received and the results were submitted to the Attorney-General’s Chambers (AGC).

“In the case of Zulkifli Noordin, the AGC ordered us to cease investigation due to lack of evidence. Therefore it has been classified as No Further Action (NFA),” he told a press conference at the Bukit Aman mosque tonight.

He added as for the other cases, including that involving Perkasa president Ibrahim Ali, the police have yet to receive any word from the AGC.

Khalid was responding to a query from journalists on the status of investigation on Ibrahim Ali who had purportedly urged the burning of Bibles which used the word ‘Allah’.

Guan Eng: Cabinet must act against ‘racist minister’
11:20AM Jul 19, 2013

The cabinet has been challenged to prove its multiracial credential and act against a minister for condoning Perkasa’s call to burn the Malay language Bible.

DAP secretary-general Lim Guan Eng today slammed Urban Well-being, Housing and Local Government Minister Abdul Rahman Dahlan’s defence of Perkasa chief Ibrahim Ali’s previous call to burnthe Bible containing the word ‘Allah’ as “racist and extremist”.

NONE“This is a shocking statement. How can it be proper for a racist and extremist like Ibrahim to burn the Bible as an act of correcting the Bible?

“Just as non-Muslims should not be allowed to burn holy books of other religions, Ibrahim Ali should not be allowed to burn the Bible, especially when this is done as a protest against Christianity,” Lim said in a statement today.

“No one can understand the logic and rationale for Abdul Rahman’s (above, in suit) statement that Ibrahim Ali’s call to burn the Bible containing the word ‘Allah’ cannot be compared with the present case against the sex bloggers Alvin Tan and Vivian Lee for insulting Muslims.

NONE“By failing to act against Ibrahim Ali, one can only conclude that insults against non-Islamic religions are permitted,” Lim added.

“The important question now is whether the cabinet, including both Muslims and non-Muslims, will address such shocking remarks from a new minister from Sabah who has no respect for Christians and non-Muslims.

“Can cabinet members, especially non-Muslim ministers, accept Abdul Rahman’s racist and extremist views that insult their religion are normal?” Lim asked.

3 weeks to charge MP, 3 years to mull over Negri MB

It took three weeks for the authorities to decide to charge a DAP MP, but three years have passed since Negri Sembilan Menteri Besar Mohamad Hassan was probed for sending RM10 million overseas through illegal means, and he has yet to be charged.

This was the lament of Seremban MP Anthony Loke, who was served with a court summons saying he will be charged next week for contravening the Peaceful Assembly Act 2012 on June 22.

“This is selective prosecution. Lots of MPs are charged on technical issues (like not serving 10 days notice before a rally).

mohamad hasan negeri sembilan mb“But I received a written reply from Minister in the Prime Minister’s Department Paul Low about (the MB) and it says the investigation paper is complete and has already been sent to the Attorney-General’s Chambers.

“Three years and no action, but when it comes to us, it only takes three weeks,” he said.

Mohamad (right) was probed by the Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission (MACC) when he sent RM10 million to London through a moneychanger in 2010.Loke noted that despite having a case pending, Mohamad was still fielded as a BN candidate and then retained as Negri Sembilan MB.

“But in my case, they gave me the (summons to be present to be charged) before I even completed my statement to the police.

“The notice was prepared the day before I went to give the statement,” he said.

Loke  said that with a maximum penalty of RM10,000 fine if convicted, he may be facing disqualification as an MP.

Alvivi have been stupid & insensitive -but who are they compared to Zul Noordin, Ridhuan Tee, Ib Ali, Mohd Noor?

“Why the double standard against those who called for bibles to be burnt? Those who had hurt the religious sentiments of Hindus? It is also very wrong under the Islamic laws,” Dr Siti Mariah said, citing Perkasa chief Datuk Ibrahim Ali and its former vice-president Datuk Zulkifli Nordin who have a reputation for making controversial statements against non-Muslims.

According to this minister, Ibrahim Ali’s burn bibles call is to ‘destroy the holy books in a respectful way’. Yup.

Judge had failed Alvivi by denying bail – bought AG’s Chambers stupid argument that they might reoffend! punitive & bad faith

Can’t compare Ibrahim Ali with Alvivi, says minister

Perkasa chief Ibrahim Ali’s call to burn Bibles containing the word ‘Allah’ cannot be compared with the present case against the sex bloggers Alvin Tan dan Vivian Lee for insulting Muslims, said urban wellbeing, housing and local government minister.

Abdul Rahman Dahlan said Ibrahim had already explained that his call was merely to correct the error of printing the said bibles, and burning them was the proper thing to do just as Muslims burn copies of the Quran that have misprints.

The acts of the couple, dubbed ‘Alvivi’, however were aimed at attacking another religion, and could  threaten interfaith harmony, he added.

“What Ibrahim Ali said was normal, but various portals twisted the statement saying it was a call to burn the bible. That is incorrect,” he said, however clarifying that Malaysiakini was not amongst the said portals.

He was commenting when asked, after officiating an Ops Jalan Raya and Cleanliness campaign in Kuala Lumpur today.

No action against Zul – report filed against AG

A coalition of NGOs today lodged a police report against Attorney-General Abdul Gani Patail for alleged abuse of power and practicing selective prosecution.

In the report filed with the Travers police station in Kuala Lumpur, the NGOs gave the police a two week time-frame to take action against the AG.

Failing which, the NGOs warned they would lodge a complaint with the Enforcement Agency Integrity Commission (EAIC).

“We ask that the police investigate the AG, take action against him for selective prosecuting, he has misused his power, they should arrest him immediately,” said Peoples Welfare and Rights Organisation (Power) president S Gobi Krishnan.

NONEGobi cited the charges against bloggers Alvin Tan and Vivian Lee as well as the AG’s refusal to charge Perkasa vice-president Zulkifli Noordin (right) as proof of selective prosecution.

“We welcome this news of charges against the bloggers because we don’t want anyone to insult any religion, but the AG has to take action in all cases (of religions being insulted)” he said.

“Are we being told that one photo on Facebook is sufficient evidence and that a Youtube video isn’t?” he asked in reference to the video showing Zulkifli insulting the Hindu faith.

Despite the NGOs having lodged a police report against Zulkifli, Gobi said the police later informed them that the AG’s Chambers decided not to proceed because of “insufficient evidence.”

Act fast against Muslim offenders too, says PAS

BY YISWAREE PALANSAMY
July 17, 2013

PAS wants the authorities to be consistent and take action against Muslims who offend the racial and religious sentiments of non-Muslims.

Its vice-president Datuk Mahfuz Omar and Kota Raja MP Dr Siti Mariah Mahmud said today in Parliament the authorities were quick to act on complaints made by Muslims but were indifferent when it came to non-Muslims’ complaints.

Dr Siti Mariah cited the case of sex bloggers Alvin Tan and Vivian Lee and their controversial Ramadhan photograph where action had been swift. It was no so when non-Muslim sentiment was involved, she said.

Mahfuz said, “We need to look at ourselves as well before crying foul about others. Islam is fair and there should not be selected prosecution of anyone.”

Retribution is quick if you’re sex bloggers

COMMENT In a flash, the authorities cracked their whips when a non-Muslim couple, infamous for their exhibitionist sexual trysts, posted a photograph of themselves dining on pork (bak kut teh) soup.

The indignation is understandable. The posting was downright ridiculous and offensive. There is no excuse to belittle a faith and the couple should have been aware of the repercussions when trampling on what is sacrosanct to others.

NONEHowever, there appears to be two diametrically opposed approaches to such matters in Prime Minister Najib Abdul Razak’s 1Malaysia.

The same authorities, politicians and religious leaders did not even squeak when Perkasa vice-president Zulkifli Noordin (right) degraded the Hindu religion or when university lecturer Ridhuan Tee Abdullah derided the Thaipusam festival.

This begs the question whether Muslims have the right to be offended while others should just accept the blatant disparagement of their respective faiths as a fact of life in Malaysia.

Zulkifli, in a video recording of his sermon posted on YouTube, had ridiculed the Hindu belief that the Ganges River in India is sacred.

He also mocked Hindu deities for failing to prevent a flood from ravaging a shop that sold statues of these deities.

NONERidhuan (right), on the other hand, saw red over the attempts by certain organisations to lift the temporary ban imposed on a Tamil film, which critics claimed equated Islam with terrorism.

In his argument that appeared in a Malay-language daily, the associate professor, who ironically teaches ethnic relations, penned derogatory remarks about the Thaipusam festival in Batu Caves.

He also complained about the proliferation of Hindu temples and shrines since the 2008 general election.

In both cases, there were calls to take stern action against Zulkifli and Ridhuan, including charging them under the Sedition Act. However, these voices went unheeded.

For Hindus, an apology is sufficient?

And what about Perkasa president Ibrahim Ali’s incendiary remark to torch Malay bibles which contain the word ‘Allah’?

Mahathir, who is the patron of Perkasa, later defended Ibrahim, stating that it is common to burn banned publications.

And as if to rub salt into the wound, Najib, who fathered the 1Malaysia slogan, named Zulkfli as the BN candidate for the Shah Alam parliament seat in the last general election.

To make matters worse, Zulkifli is the vice-president of Perkasa, the right-wing movement with an unenviable track record of stoking racial and religious flames.

Defending his candidature, Deputy Prime Minister Muhyiddin Yassin had described Zulkifli as a man with calibre.

NONEMuhyiddin (left in photo) also reminded the people that Zulkifli had since admitted his mistake and apologised for insulting the Hindu faith.

So in the case of slighted Hindus, an apology is sufficient.

There is no justification for Alvin Tan and Vivian Lee’s action as freedom of expression cannot be used as a shield to rattle religious and racial ties.

But the same rule must also be extended to those Muslims who insult the faiths and beliefs of others. In short, 1Malaysia needs one approach on issues concerning religious rows. There should be no double standard.

Failing which, it would prove that 1Malaysia is the most hollow, superfluous, deceptive, insidious and deceitful slogan ever coined to hoodwink a nation.
