Police, KL City Hall fueled Bersih 3.0 chaos, panel finds
By Trinna Leong
July 12, 2013
The panel was set up by the government to investigate police on allegations of brutality against demonstrators and reporters in the rally on April 28, 2012. It handed over a 500-page report of its deliberations to Home Minister Datuk Seri Ahmad Zahid Hamidi on Wednesday.
SOME OF THE FINDINGS OF THE PANEL
1 Police used excessive force on Bersih 3.0 supporters.
2 DBKL used flimsy excuses in disallowing rally organisers to use Dataran Merdeka for the gathering.
3 Syarikat Prasarana Negara Berhad (SPN) also used flimsy excuses for stopping government-owned buses and trains from getting into the city.

Panel’s report on Bersih 3 in minister’s hands for further action, or not
The Independent Advisory Panel report of the Bersih 3 demonstration on April 28 last year, was submitted to Home Minister Datuk Seri Dr Ahmad Zahid Hamidi today for further action.
Former inspector-general of police Tun Hanif Omar, who chaired the panel and handed over the 500-page report, said it was ready in April this year but was not released immediately in view of the approaching 13th general election then.
“The report was completed after we convened 50 meetings and there were 10 terms of reference,” he said, adding that the report also contained advice and suggestions for the government to take up in the interest of the nation and people, but it was up to the home minister whether to reveal the contents of the report to the public or not, let alone take any action at all.
