Sin Chew slams ‘Superman’

War of words erupts after politician calls for 30-day boycott

From page 2 KUALA LUMPUR: A war of words has erupted between a DAP politician and a leading Chinese daily after the politician asked voters to boycott the newspaper for 30 days, calling one of the writers a “dog columnist”.

In a strongly worded statement published in Sin Chew Daily, the newspaper slammed the politician, whom it referred to as an “ordinary member” with the family name Hew, as malicious for asking the voters to boycott the newspaper.

The politician, it said, had always been hostile to the daily. The main reason for the politician’s hostility, the daily claimed, was that its deputy editor-in-chief Tay Tian Yan had openly rebutted him for calling reporters “prostitutes”, for which he was directed by party leaders to apologise.

It said that on the contrary, the daily had always paid attention to the opinions of DAP leaders and never stopped to provide an avenue of expression for the party.

“DAP leaders of all levels appreciate the friendly mutual relationship. However, the ‘ordinary member’ with the family name of Hew has tried to destroy the good relationship between the party and the daily,” it said.

“He has humiliated Sin Chew Daily and other Chinese newspapers and this has created anger among a large number of Chinese journalists.”

Sin Chew had carried on the same page a report quoting former DAP election publicity chief Hew Kuan Yau, widely known as “Superman”, as openly urging voters to boycott the newspaper for 30 days.

Hew, known for his liberal use of crude language and vulgarities in his public speeches, was also quoted as using the word “dog” during a ceramah in Sibu on Monday to describe Tay.

The daily noted, however, that Hew’s call for a boycott did not reflect DAP’s stand because many party leaders had openly clarified that DAP was not boycotting the newspaper.

It also featured on the same page a picture of DAP adviser Lim Kit Siang reading a copy of Sin Chew before calling a press conference with other DAP leaders in Skudai on Tuesday.

It stressed that although it would continue to maintain an objective stand and provide an avenue to politicians from all sides, it would not condone vulgar and rude practices.

Last year, Hew had posted on his Facebook account that while “society had recently slammed some teenagers for not having self-respect by prostituting themselves for their material needs, have the people ever thought that there were reporters who had no self-respect and ‘prostitute’ themselves to Barisan Nasional for the same reason?”

MCA blames Pakatan for Youtube ‘dislike’ votes

MCA Youth today blamed Pakatan Rakyat “cybertroopers” of sabotaging its first campaign video on YouTube by flooding it with “dislike”.

Its education bureau chief Chong Sin Woon said the flood of “dislikes” on the video – which bashes DAP speaker Hew Kuan Yau’s vulgar language during ceramah – was the work of Pakatan.

“We expect all cybertroopers from the other side to dislike our video. This is a common game in cyberworld,” Chong (centre in photo) told a press conference at the MCA headquarters in Kuala Lumpur this afternoon.

ccc

He said this in response to a question why the video received 981 “dislikes” as compared with 88 “likes”.

MCA Youth strategic planning bureau chief Neil Foo, who was also present, blamed the opposition parties, saying they were well organised to click “dislike” on the video.

“We are more with the free market (by not organising people to click ‘like’).”

MCA Youth said the video, launched two weeks ago, is aimed at curbing the proliferation of “vulgar culture” by ‘Superman’ – the popular nickname for Hew.

Dr Hew Kuan Yau

Our leaders practically became celebrities, and this was most evident in the case of speaker extraordinaire Dr Hew Kuan Yau, notoriously called “Superman” for his trademark T-shirts that bore the “S” emblem. He had burst onto the scene with his fiery rhetoric and quickly gained infamy through some controversial (but hilarious) remarks about a certain BN component party. And then we started to receive reports that Superman T-shirts were selling out in every locality he visited.

MCA whips out the kryptonite on vulgar DAP ‘Superman’

KUALA LUMPUR: MCA Youth has released a video, promising to be the first of many, “exposing” the Opposition’s shortcomings.

Elections fever: Chong (right) at the press conference about MCA’s first general election campaign video clip at Wisma MCA in Kuala Lumpur. Next to him is Beliawanis chief Tee Hooi Ling. The first video released yesterday was targeted at DAP’s election publicity chief Dr Hew Kuan Yau over his liberal use of crude language and vulgarities in his public speeches.MCA Youth’s education bureau chief Chong Sin Woon said that the video that has been uploaded on the MCA’s official YouTube page (www.youtube.com / mcahq) was meant to show the “vulgar politics” practised by Hew, who regularly calls himself the “Superman” of DAP.“Young kids sometimes want to search for videos of Superman and they will stumble across Hew’s videos and end up picking up bad habits such as cursing at their friends or elders,” said Chong during a press conference in Wisma MCA here yesterday. He added that Hew had created a vulgar environment for politics especially in social media websites where his videos are widely circulated.

The one-minute video uploaded by MCA depicts schoolchildren who are influenced by Hew’s videos, ending up becoming ruffians.
……..

In an immediate response, Hew posted a message on his Facebook page with several obscene words.

Addressing several incidents in MCA he claimed that the party did not have the moral high ground to censure him.

三字经 (Three Character Classic)

Published on Mar 22, 2013

Parents, we all want children to learn traditional formal teaching people to perform good deeds “Three Character Classic”, instead of the abusive language alternative “Three Character Classic”.

Some political parties and politicians in order to achieve political objectives, and to keep the people advocating full of curses, hatred, abuse, humiliation language of violence, poison the children’s thinking.

Choosing the right people, the children would not have taken the wrong road. To say no to violence, language, to create positive energy in Malaysia.

MCA launches video against ‘Superman’s vulgar culture’

MCA Youth and Beliawanis have co-launched a 61-second short video to counter popular DAP speaker Hew Kuan Yau’s alleged use of crude language during ceramah sessions.

a

MCA Youth education bureau chief Chong Sin Woon said they want to be in the vanguard to curb the proliferation of vulgar culture on he part of ‘Superman’ – the popular  nickname for Hew (right, centre picture).

“We know that Superman is the saviour of mankind and helps victims.

“But this ‘Superman’ in Malaysia is (an icon) of vulgar and slander culture, so MCA Youth and Beliawanis want to be the vanguard to counter the (Malaysian) Superman,” Chong told a press conference at MCA headquarters this afternoon.
……….

n response, Hew told Malaysiakini – in a cynical tone – that he “thanked” MCA for spending their resources just to retaliate to an ordinary DAP member like himself.

“I am grateful that they (MCA) recognise my influence. I am not even a candidate, nor (am I) holding any party position. They are making me more famous,” he said when contacted.

He opined that the video would present a backlash to MCA, instead of helping their case.
