Will he be a PM of Malaysians first? A Malaysian PM for all races or a Malay PM?

NGO: Will Muhyiddin be a Malay or Malaysian PM?

A pro-opposition NGO is sceptical of whether Parti Pribumi Bersatu Malaysia (Bersatu) pro-tem president Muhyiddin Yassin is the right person for the prime minister’s post.

Based on his previous statements, Malaysian Indians Progressive Association (Mipas) noted that the former deputy prime minister portrayed himself as an ultra-Malay.

Mipas secretary-general S Barathidasan said the most glaring example was Muhyiddin’s “Malay first, Malaysian second” statement in 2010.

“So, if he becomes prime minister, will he be a PM for Malays or for all Malaysians?” Barathidasan asked.

Barathidasan said Mipas believes if there is a politician who is qualified to assume the post of prime minister and institute reforms in the nation, it would be none other than jailed former opposition leader Anwar Ibrahim.

“Anwar has proven that he is capable of bringing the various races together. He is also committed to making important changes to the system,” he added.

Rafizi: Naming PM premature when support for opposition uncertain

Rafizi Ramli believes it is premature to be naming candidates who will assume the post of prime minister should BN lose federal power in the next general election, at a time when political support for the respective opposition parties remains uncertain.

As for convincing the Malay voters who are opposed to Prime Minister Najib Abdul Razak to back the opposition, Rafizi, who is a PKR vice-president, said there must be a ceasefire among the opposition parties to ensure that they return to the role of defending the people.

Citing his findings on young Malay voters, Rafizi pointed out that while they rejected Umno, they also do not overwhelmingly back any particular opposition party.

Furthermore, he said, his survey also revealed a certain degree of stigma associated with Parti Pribumi Bersatu Malaysia (Bersatu).

“This is understandable, given that the party is new and most people are not clear of its positions on many issues.

“More so, those who lean more to Umno or those who were strongly anti-BN will find it difficult to accept Bersatu at face value,” Rafizi told Malaysiakini.

Dr M: Muhyiddin will be PM if opposition wins, but…

Parti Pribumi Bersatu Malaysia (Bersatu) pro-tem president Muhyiddin Yassin is the top pick for prime minister if the opposition wins the 14th general election – at least according to former prime minister and Bersatu adviser Dr Mahathir Mohamad.

Speaking at a lecture in London last week, Mahathir, however, qualified that this depended on whether Bersatu elects Muhyiddin as president, and whether the opposition coalition agrees to Muhyiddin taking over as prime minister if it wins GE14.

“If you name the prime minister now, some people might be very disappointed and that would split the party.

“At the moment we are not doing anything (to choose a future PM), except that if the opposition wins, most likely (the) PM would be Muhyiddin.

“But that depends on his party, whether they will elect him as president, and it depends upon the coalition on who should be the PM,” Mahathir said in a lecture he gave at the Macmillan Hall of the Senate House, University of London, on Sept 21.

Muhyiddin: I’m not racist

BY RAM ANAND

KUALA LUMPUR, Aug 13 — Tan Sri Muhyiddin Yassin denied today accusations of racism over his new Bumiputera-centred party, Parti Pribumi Bersatu Malaysia.

Parti Pribumi, which is led by former Umno members who have left or were sacked by the ruling party, came under criticism earlier this week for restricting the non-Bumiputera to associate membership.

“It does not matter (about it being Bumiputera-only).

“I’m not racist. We fight for all Malaysians. And we are even better than some of the parties, which I don’t have to mention, where memberships are also inclusive,” he told reporters after attending a blood donation drive here this morning.

Malay Mail Online obtained a recording of the press conference.

Former deputy prime minister Muhyiddin, who was removed from government last year, is the president of Parti Pribumi while former prime minister Tun Dr Mahathir Mohamad is chairman.

Open war between M’sia PM ’s and Deputy PM ’s supporters: Former minister

May 23, 2015

KUALA LUMPUR – The recent criticism by the United Malays National Organisation’s (UMNO) propaganda man Dr Puad Zarkashi against Deputy Prime Minister Muhyiddin Yassin is an indication that an open war has started between supporters of Mr Muhyiddin and Prime Minister Najib Razak, an ex-minister said today (May 23).

Former information minister Zainuddin Maidin said that Mr Najib would have gotten wind of Mr Muhyiddin’s speech in the closed-door meeting, in which he called for the sacking of the 1Malaysia Development Berhad (1MDB) board, regardless of whether the video recording of the speech was leaked.

“Even without the video leaking Muhyiddin would have known that Najib will become aware of his speech, as he delivered the speech in front of ministers and also the Pahang menteri besar,” Mr Zainuddin wrote in his blog Zamkata today.

After the video was leaked, Dr Puad, who heads Putrajaya’s Special Affairs Department (Jasa) called Mr Muhyiddin a “lazy” education minister, and Mr Zainuddin claimed that the order to make the statement was believed to have come from Communications and Multimedia Minister Ahmad Shabery Cheek.

“This is seen as the start of an open war between Muhyiddin and Najib’s supporters following Muhyiddin’s veiled attack against Najib,” Mr Zainuddin said.

Mr Zainuddin also said that in the latest Supreme Council meeting, Dr Puad was among those who were vocal in supporting Mr Najib while Mr Muhyiddin was giving stern warning about the people’s concerns regarding 1MDB.

DAP: Muhyiddin should act on Bernama and NST
12:05PM Aug 4, 2013

The authorities have been urged to take action against Bernama and NST for publishing false news about Deputy Prime Minister Muhyiddin Yassin blaming non-Muslims for the dog trainer video row.

In a press release today, DAP secretary-general Lim Guan Eng said he believed that Muhyiddin was a “victim” of lies perpetuated by the two news organisations.

“DAP believes in Muhyiddin and that both NST and Bernama lied to stoke racial tensions by creating enmity, hatred and feat between Muslims and non-Muslims.

“Only by punishing these news organisations will they stop spreading such lies that threaten the very fabric of Malaysian nation-building and unity,” he said.

Yesterday, Bernama clarified that Muhyiddin did not specify non-Muslims nor the controversial dog trainer video clip in his July 30 speech, despite Bernama, NST and Sin Chew Daily reporting otherwise.

The Godfather of bigots

Jeswan Kaur | August 4, 2013

It’s because of people like the deputy prime minister that bigots like Ibrahim, Zulkifli, Perak mufti Harussani, preachers like Ridhuan Tee and Hasan Ali of Jati dare ridicule non-Malays.

COMMENT

By his own admission, Deputy Prime Minister Muhyiddin Yassin is racist, proclaiming publicly that he is Muslim first and then Malaysian. It speaks volumes of his love for the country and for his fellow Malaysians of different faiths.

But as fanatical a person he is, Muhyiddin, who is also the Education Minister seems ‘untouchable’ and because of this ‘privilege’, he continues to threaten the non-Malays to toe the line.

Just days ago while breaking fast with orphaned children, Muhyiddin once again went on raving and ranting about how Muslims have never insulted the religion of the non-Muslims such as Christianity and Hinduism.

“But non-Muslims are insulting our religion,” he had said warning the non-Malays of consequences for tarnishing the image and sanctity of Islam.

A baseless attack on the non-Malays by Muhyiddin and not a single non-Malay minister had the guts to take the DPM on – so much for ‘berkhidmat untuk rakyat’ or serving the people pledge undertaken by the minister-politcians.

The DPM had the cheek to say the Muslims never humiliated the other faiths of this country, his baseless accusation proof enough that Muhyiddin does not care a damn about the other faiths.

It is because of ‘godfathers’ like Muhyiddin that bigots like Ibrahim, Zulkifli, Perak mufti Harussani Zakaria, preachers like Ridhuan Tee and Hasan Ali of Jati dare ridicule the non-Malays.

Muhyiddin’s latest remark that the Muslims have never insulted other religions should be the straw that breaks the camel’s back.

Meanwhile, the nation’s ‘headache’ is that it is Umno that is throwing tantrums whenever the topic of national stability, unity and peace arises. It is not the non-Malays who are walking with hatred in their hearts but Umno which post May 13, 1969, has been holding a grudge against the non-Malays.

For as long as Umno remains the dominant stakeholder in the Barisan Nasional alliance, all will never be well with Malaysia, especially where it concerns the country’s ‘unity in diversity’.

That horror called Muhyiddin

If Najib Tun Razak fails to secure a two-thirds majority in the coming polls, Muhyiddin Yassin may become the next prime minister. To many, this is an unnerving prospect.

The M&M plot against Najib

So it comes as no surprise that the rumour mills are churning out tales of another conspiracy in the making, with Mahathir engineering the fall of Najib and the rise of Muhyiddin Yassin.

…he sees a glimmer of authoritarian hope in Muhyiddin, who is too old to play second fiddle for another term. Perhaps in return for the top post, the latter would help the former’s son rise up the political ladder.

Muhyiddin too wants to become prime minister but has no charm, charisma or a track record to boast about.

Muhyiddin’s CNY message – stamp out racism

Malaysians have been urged to preserve tradition by disallowing any party to play the racist card as it will destroy the harmony built over the years.

Deputy Prime Minister Muhyiddin Yassin said without the understanding and cooperation of other races, the prosperity enjoyed would not be realised.

“I hope that the Snake Year will bring prosperity and peace to the Chinese community and Malaysians in general.

“Let us keep the unity, harmony and stability of our country to ensure a more progressive and prosperous future,” he said in a Chinese New Year message.

Muhyiddin said the Chinese New Year to be celebrated by the Chinese tomorrow is proof that the people have freedom to celebrate festivals with joy and in harmony.

While entending Gong Xi Fa Cai, he said there are no restrictions, much less a ban on ethnic groups, including the Chinese from practising their faith and celebrating in a big way.

A doctorate, an online college and a company owned by Puteri UMNO leader

Harakahdaily,23 January 2013

Jan 23: An honorary doctorate to be awarded to Education minister Muhyiddin Yassin by a little-known sports academy in the United States has been linked to the organisation’s bid to secure a lucrative contract from the ministry.

In questioning the move, DAP election strategist Ong Kian Ming also revealed that the contract was given through the college’s Malaysian agent, KH Sports Sdn Bhd, headed by the chief of Puteri UMNO’s Langkawi division.

The United States Sports Academy (USSA) is currently involved in a bid to retrain up to 50,000 PE teachers in Malaysia in a contract worth RM1.15 billion.

But USSA president Thomas Rosandich has defended the awarding of the honorary doctorate to Muhyiddin, saying it was based on the latter’s “proven track record”.

“What Dr. Rosandich failed to explain is the clear conflict of interest in awarding Muhyiddin this honorary doctorate when the institution he represents, USSA, could potentially benefit from a contract worth up to RM1.15 billion if its pilot project involving the training of Malaysian PE teachers is extended and expanded,” said Ong in a statement.

“No doubt such a contract would be given to USSA via its sole Malaysian agent, KH Sports Sdn Bhd whose chairwoman Hisham Suhaili Othman is the Puteri UMNO Chief in the Langkawi division,” he added.

Muhyiddin under fire over honorary doctorate award
9:41AM Jan 23, 2013

The DAP continues to press Deputy Prime Minister Muhyiddin Yassin on his acceptance of a honorary doctorate from the United States Sports Academy (USSA) last Thursday, alleging the possibility of conflict of interest in the award.

According to the opposition party, this could be in the form of the extension and expansion of the training programme for Malaysian physical education (PE) teachers which is conducted by the USSA.

Already the pilot project to train 1,000 PE teachers last year cost the government RM22.9 million.

An extension of the programme to re-train 50,000 PE teachers over the next five years would cost taxpayers in excess of RM1 billion, DAP election strategist Ong Kian Ming warned in a statement yesterday.

DAP: Muhyiddin’s doctorate a reward for contract?

DAP has questioned if Education Minister Muhyiddin Yassin’s honorary doctorate from the United States Sports Academy (USSA) was awarded yesterday in exchange for a RM22.9 million government contract.

Party election strategist Ong Kian Ming alleged that the move was related to a deal involving the Education Ministry, through a company linked to an Umno leader, and USSA.

The company, said Ong, was acting as an agent for the USSA and had acquired the government contract via direct negotiations.
