Another PN leader – Malaysia's opposition leader Hamzah – admits vote buying. During an election campaign, the intention is to win seats/support. The source(s) of the massive amount of money spent in GE15 by PN needs to be clarified. https://t.co/Q5mueOT7Nd
The most important element in cash handouts is the intention, said Perikatan Nasional secretary-general Hamzah Zainudin.
The former home minister was responding to PAS president Abdul Hadi Awang defending the distribution of cash to voters during the last 15th general election as “charity”.
“I am not so sure about that (Hadi’s statement). But the point is here when we talk about giving money, it is the intention that is more important,” he told reporters at the sidelines of Gerakan’s Chinese New Year open house in Kuala Lumpur today.
2. “Sebab itu kita kena berhati-hati, dan niat itu penting kenapa kita beri wang kepada orang yang minta itu,” Hamzah says.
He adds that PN has strong evidence to refute the bribery allegations, claiming the petitions filed by Terengganu Umno was because they were dissatisfied.

PN prepared to prove bribery allegations untrue – Hamzah Zainudin

KUALA LUMPUR – Perikatan Nasional (PN) claims to have strong evidence to refute allegations that the coalition had bribed voters in the 15th general election (GE15).
Its secretary-general Datuk Seri Hamzah Zainudin said the coalition’s defence team was prepared to prove the election petition filed by Terengganu Umno were untrue.
“Of course when they challenge us by making a petition, we will make sure that we have the evidence to prove them wrong. The point is the petition was filed simply because they were dissatisfied.
“Nevertheless, our defence team will ensure that we will win,” he told reporters after attending the PN Chinese New Year Open House at Parti Gerakan Rakyat Malaysia headquarters here today.
Terengganu Umno had earlier this month filed a petition to annul the results for the Kuala Terengganu, Marang and Kemaman parliamentary seats in GE15 which were all won by PAS, a PN component party.
The petition was filed in the Kuala Terengganu High Court on Jan 3 in accordance with the Election Offences Act 1954.

In the 90’s I was in break-bulk shipping, serviced Bechtel and major Japanese projects. Process and diligence were impressive. Late in 2000’s saw first Chinese projects. Cheap, corrupt, & poor engineering. – None of what is happening now is a surprise. https://t.co/IqqXuToyjy

After calling reports that he was a drag queen "categorically false" and "outrageous," George Santos just admitted to dressing in drag, but insisted he wasn't a drag queen, but was just "young and had fun at a festival." So, drag-ish? pic.twitter.com/BLoqHGxbzQ

PAS president publicly acknowledges handouts in GE15 campaign, uncharitably claiming these as 'charity.' At least one election petition -Gua Musang – will address the legality of the PAS/PN spending in court. https://t.co/mSqYcXoYZj
PAS president Abdul Hadi Awang has defended the party’s distribution of cash to voters during the 15th general election (GE15), claiming that it was a charitable act and hence, not prohibited by electoral law.
The Malaysian Insight (TMI) quoted the Marang MP as saying existing rules only prohibited contesting candidates and their representatives from giving cash to voters.
“According to election law, a candidate or a candidate’s representative cannot give out cash money, it is up to the public to give alms,” Hadi told reporters after attending the Semarak Gelombang Rakyat event with Perikatan Nasional (PN) in Negeri Sembilan this morning.
The petitions filed by BN to challenge the election outcomes for three Terengganu parliamentary seats were described as a tactical move by the PN deputy chairperson.
Evidently PAS cannot deny the allegation that their party handed out cash to voters during the election, so their leader, Hadi Awang, has decided to brazen it out with a game of semantics and hair splitting.
Bribery is re-designated as ‘charity’ and we are informed that there is a big difference – or so Hadi claims – if the PAS state government machinery handed round the cash rather than the local candidates physically themselves.
If the PAS candidate was featured and promoted on the green envelope slip in which the money was presented, so what?
Good luck to the lawyer who takes on the task of standing up Hadi’s legal opinions in court. The PAS leader is no stranger to uttering preposterous self-justifications (for example that it is OK to lie if it benefits his own ‘Godly’ party) but he has tended to save his theories for credulous followers and to run away from testing them against the penal code.
It seems now he has no choice because the evidence is there and a case has been brought against him.

BN has filed election petitions for three parliamentary seats, including the Marang constituency held by PAS president Tan Sri Abdul Hadi Awang, over allegations of vote buying.https://t.co/koWHFBM1hq
KUALA LUMPUR – Barisan Nasional (BN) has filed election petitions for three parliamentary seats, including the Marang constituency held by PAS president Tan Sri Abdul Hadi Awang, over allegations of vote buying.
This was revealed via a media invitation issued by the Umno headquarters for a press conference on the matter to be held tomorrow afternoon.
The invitation indicated that the press conference will be chaired by Terengganu Umno liaison chairman Datuk Seri Ahmad Said, who will be joined by a team of lawyers to provide an update on the three election petitions by BN.
It noted that the petitions have been filed by BN candidates in the 15th general election (GE15) who contested in the Marang, Kemaman, and Kuala Terengganu constituencies – all of which are in Terengganu.
The invitation specifically mentioned that the petitions are against the Perikatan Nasional (PN) candidates in the respective seats.
“All three election petitions are over allegations of rampant corruption committed by PN during GE15.”
The Kuala Terengganu seat is currently held by Datuk Ahmad Amzad Hashim, the PAS lawmaker recently sued by Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim for defamation after he accused the prime minister of lying about receiving a salary of only RM1 when he was Selangor’s economic adviser.
Meanwhile, the Kemaman constituency is held by Che Alias Hamid, a two-term incumbent there.
All three PAS candidates won their respective seats with a handsome majority.
Previously on Friday, BN secretary-general Datuk Seri Zambry Abdul Kadir confirmed that the coalition has filed several election petitions contesting the results in a number of seats won by PN over vote-buying allegations, but stopped short of naming them.
He had said that the coalition had a “strong basis” to resort to such action.
