Armed police have swarmed the west Auckland suburb of Henderson in a major operation where a police car has been shot at.

Video provided to the Herald shows a police car riddled with bullet holes.

“We’re alright – we’ve got him,” an officer told drivers.

A resident on Seymour Rd near Parr’s Park said one police car had a smashed window. Another said eight ambulances had passed their home on Edmonton Rd in response to the unfolding emergency.

A witness standing outside Pak’nSave on Alderman Drive said he can see eight police cars, three ambulances and a police helicopter overhead.

Five armed police officers were standing near the roundabout on Sel Peacock Drive. Auckland buses are being diverted due to what Auckland Transport says is a “police incident”.

Officers appeared to be focused on a cordoned-off area further up the road.
