Anti vaxxers are all over Justin Bieber like fleas over a dog’s body, blaming Covid-19 vaccines for his condition

Justin Bieber has cancelled all of the remaining dates of his Justice world tour, following health issues. The 29-year-old singer had postponed the tour several times, telling fans last summer that he was suffering from facial paralysis, after a diagnosis of Ramsay Hunt syndrome (RHS). 2 days ago

Ramsay Hunt syndrome is a neurological condition caused by varicella zoster virus, the same virus that causes chickenpox in children and shingles in adults. The virus can linger in your body for your entire life, even long after you have recovered from chickenpox, and reawaken to irritate and inflame the nerves in your face.

The syndrome is officially known as herpes zoster oticus; its more common name comes from the neurologist James Ramsay Hunt, who first described the illness.

Is there a link between the Covid vaccine and Ramsay Hunt?

After Mr. Bieber announced his diagnosis, a flurry of posts on social media speculated that receiving the Covid-19 vaccine had triggered his Ramsay Hunt Syndrome. Experts said these theories are misinformation.

“There is zero correlation that we have seen with any of the types of Covid vaccines with facial paralysis, whether it’s Ramsay Hunt or Bell’s palsy,” said Dr. Danielle Eytan, a clinical assistant professor of otolaryngology at NYU Lagone Health.

Ramsay Hunt was first described over one hundred years ago, Dr. Javaid said, and “Covid just recently came into our lives. It’s clearly not associated with Covid or Covid vaccines at all.”

Ramsay Hunt syndrome was first described in 1907 by James Ramsay Hunt in a patient who had otalgia associated with cutaneous and mucosal rashes, which he ascribed to infection of the geniculate ganglion by human herpesvirus 3 (ie, varicella-zoster virus [VZV]).16 Jul 2018
