MACC nabs Bersatu treasurer, gets 2 days remand

The MACC has arrested Bersatu treasurer Mohamed Salleh Bajuri in relation to the use of the party funds.

A source close to Bersatu’s leadership confirmed Salleh’s reported arrest and two days remand.

“Yes, it’s true that he (Salleh) is being detained,” the source told Malaysiakini.

The Star earlier quoted a MACC source who said Salleh (above) was arrested on Tuesday and his two-day remand is expected to end tomorrow.

The Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission has arrested Bersatu treasurer Datuk Mohd Salleh Bajuri for matters relating to the use of party funds.

This is the second high-profile arrest of Bersatu leaders following the party’s information chief Datuk Wan Saiful Wan Jan’s charge on February 21 for allegedly receiving RM6.9 million in bribes for securing a RM232 million road project. 

Bersatu Segambut deputy chief Adam Radlan Adam Muhammad was also charged the same day for allegedly soliciting between 3.5% to 7% of the project value of a road project worth RM47.8 million.

It is believed these funds concern the use of RM92.5 billion under the Jana Wibawa economic stimulus programme. 

MACC had also in January frozen Bersatu’s accounts under the Anti Money-Laundering Act. – The Vibes, March 1, 2023
